Someone once said that only change itself never changes. That

certainly seems to be the case with me.

I can measure(测量)my life by the changes that have taken place,

And now I am deciding on another change. We are selling our boat after

fifteen years of summers on the water.

We bought the boat shortly after we moved to Canada's west coast. We then joined a boating club and we enjoyed cruising among the Southern Gulf Islands, meeting friends who likes doing cruising on the sea. Skukum, as well we call the boat, has carried us safely through both smooth and very rough water. At about ten meters long it is large enough to be comfortable to live on for days at a time. Also, the scenery in our part of the world is fantastic with sea birds, dolphins and even whales.

We feel it is time. however, to do something different. Admittedly, this change will be made partly because boating is an expensive hobby. Boats require a lot of maintenance(维修), use lots of gas and cost a lot even when they are sitting still(静止的). Beyond the cost is the feeling that we have done just about everything we want to do with the boat. We could continue to spend summer weekends on the water or we could make a change in our lifestyle and start doing road trips to places we haven’t seen across North America. As we have children and grandchildren on both the east and west coasts, driving trips will be more necessary. So it's time to make a choice and, having now made it, it 's time to make a change.

Like most changes there will be both benefits and regrets but we feel the time has come. There is no doubt that we will miss the boat but we will also open a new door in our lives. Hopefully, we have made the right decision.

When you cough or sneeze, you’d better turn your head away

from others and cover your mouth with the full part of your hand. And

then, you should say, " Exc use me.”

This seems so simple, but it is surprising how many kids have

never been told to do this. Actually, I notice adults all the time who

cough and sneeze in public without placing a hand over the mouth. One important thing I point out to the kids is that after they sneeze or cough on their hands. they should wash their hands as soon as possible, If not, they will be passing those germs(细菌) along to everything and everyone they touch.

If you come to a door and someone is following you, hold the door. If the door opens by pulling pull it open, stand to the side, and allow the other person to pass through first, then you can walk through. If the door opens by pushing. hold the door after you pass through.

After a few weeks of seeing kids try to get through doors in the school and watching them enter restaurants as the door hit other people. I knew I had to discuss the problem with my students. Teaching them small acts of kindness, such as letting someone else go through a door first as they hold it open. may seem unimportant. but it can go along way toward helping students realize how to be polite and thank others. Once they’ve been told, they’re halfway there.

After college when I moved to London. I was surprised at how polite everyone was in the subways. Time goes without stopping and is tricky sometimes, There really

is nothing we can do. Strangely enough the clock's hands seem to take

forever to move forward during a boring class, while time really flies

when we are having a good time! We have all kinds of clocks and look at them to make sure the time. But have you ever taken a moment to wonder why the hands on the face of a clock move from left to right? That is now called the clock wise direction". Actually, it is not the sudden idea of the inventor. There is a scientific reason for it.

Throughout history, time has been measured by the movement of the sun. The earliest form of timekeeping dates as far back as 3500 B C. This was the shadow clock or the sundials(日晷),People had already realized that the earth is round and that it goes around the sun. So for aged people measured time based on the position of the sun it was noon when the sun was highest in the sky.

The earliest clocks were invented in China around 100 A. D. based on the earlier sundials which were simple thing that marked the movement of the sun with the movement of the earth. Mechanical clocks were invented in the Northern Hemisphere(半球) in the 14th century and the inventors naturally wanted the machine to follow the suns movement in the sky. In the North Hemisphere the sun appears to move in the sky from left to right or what is commonly known a clockwise. If you are in the Northern Hemisphere and face the South, you can watch the sun rising your left (the east) pass overhead and set in the west(at your right).

As simple as that! Come to think of it. if the mechanical lock had been invented in the Southern Hemisphere, the hands of your watch would have been moving from right to left!

Do you know there are some Jewish and Arabie clocks that run anti-clockwise? This makes perfect sense as Arabic and Hebrew readers but troubles everyone from other countries. Because Arabic and Hebrew characters are written right to left!
