Woman Uses Daughter's Key to "Steal" Car

Charlie Vansant, a college student of Athens, Ohio who reported that his car was stolen, got a surprise when he learned a woman had mistaken it for her daughter's car and taken it-using her key. Kate Anderson became an accidental car thief when picking up her daughter's car near an Ohio University building last week. Anderson spotted the Toyota Camry(丰田凯美瑞)and used her daughter's key to unlock the car, start the engine and drive home-without realizing that the car wasn't her daughter's.

When Charlie Vansant left class a short time later, he found only an empty parking spot. He first assumed the car had been towed, but when the police couldn't find a record of it, they took a theft report.

The morning after Anderson took the car, her daughter discovered the Camry in the driveway wasn't hers. Anderson said she was able to find Vansant's name on paperwork in the glove compartment and look up his phone number on the website for the university.

When Anderson told Charlie the car was in her driveway, "It sounded real suspicious at first, as she wanted to hold the thing for ransom (赎金),” said Vansant. He eventually went to the house with a police officer, where he was reunited with his car. According to the police report, the case was closed "because of mistaken car identity", Anderson wasn't charged.

Vansant seemed to blame the car company more than the "thief". "Her key fit not only my lock, but my ignition(点火装置) as well

My house is made out of wood, glass and stone. It is also made out of software.

If you come to visit, you’ll probably be surprised when you come in. Someone will give you an electronic PIN (个人身份号码)to wear. This PIN tells the house who and where you are. The house uses this information to give you what you need. When it’s dark outside, the PIN turns on the lights nearest you, and then turns them off as you walk away from them. Music moves with you too. If the house knows your favorite music, it plays it. The music seems to be everywhere, but in fact other people in the house hear different music or no music. If you get a telephone call, only the nearest telephone rings.

Of course, you are also able to tell the house if you want something. There is a home control console (控制台), a small machine that turns things on and off around you.

The PIN and the console are new ideas, but they are in fact like many things we have today. If you want to go to a movie, you need a ticket. If I give you my car keys, you can use my car. The car works for you because you have the keys. My house works for you because you wear the PIN or hold the console.

I believe that ten years from now, most new homes will have the systems that I’ve put in my house. The systems will probably b e

even bigger and better than the ones I’ve put in today.

31. What is the writer most likely to be according to the passage?

mean that we let them rule our lives forever. One day or the other, you’ll have to stand up and say –problem, I don’t want you in my life.

A few years ago, my younger brother and I went to Norfolk, Virginian by plane. 41 , before we took off, we heard the pilot's voice throughout the plane, “Sorry, ladies and gentlemen. We have no 42 on the plane. We have a generator(发电机), and we are going to 43 the engines with it. We will 44 in the air and head to Norfolk, and see what happens. ”

See what happens? We are going to get up in the air, and see what happens? At this point, one woman started crying. “Oh, no! We are going to 45 !” There were sighs of 46 and anxiety quickly spreading throughout the plane, and we hadn't even 47 yet. Thirty minutes passed and we were still 48 there. Then the voice of the pilot came over again,“ Ladies and gentlemen, I know you are 49 , so are we. We only have one engine going right now, and it is working

double time. ”

There was crying 50 we had walked in to grave(坟墓). But the pilot told us our one engine was working double time, and his 51 was to get up in the air and see what happens! Then we did. We got up in the air and 52 happened. We arrived in Norfolk and everyone 53 for still being alive.

Although I do sincerely like to have a plan 54 “see what happens”, it really isn’t such a bad life strategy. All too often, I would see people pursuing their goals 55 with inaction just because they don’t have 56 success. Actually, success will never be guaranteed. The 57 thing that you can do is just get up in the air, and see what happens.

If you are planning to learn a new skill, “get up in the air, and see what happens!” It might not be as 58 as you thought. You might be smarter than you thought, and the result could be very 59 ! So don’t stay there trying nothing just because there is no 60 of guaranteed success.
