第三部分阅读理解(共两节,满分30分)

第一节(共10小题:每小题2分,满分20分)

阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C、D)中,选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。

A

Do you remember how you learned to walk when you were a toddler (初学走路的孩子)?

I believe no one could ever remember how one learned to walk when he/she was a toddler. According to an article in American Baby Magazine, in February 2000, a baby’s long-term memory can be for as long as twenty-four hours at six weeks old and up to four months at sixteen months old. When I took a ride in the time machine, I could only go back to as far as when I was about the ages of 3-4. Anything before that was like a blank piece of paper.

The inability to remember how one learned to walk could be a very important reason why some gave up so readily when they are faced with challenges in life. Had they remembered the time when they were learning to walk, they would not be so ready to give up without a fight.

If you would allow me, please move back in time with me to about one year ago when my twin nephews (侄子) were learning to walk. Even before they learned to walk, they had to learn to fall while trying to stand up on their own legs. Most time when they tried to stand up, they fell. It might take them a while to want to stand up again after they fell, however, they never waited too long to give it another shot. The question is, if everyone has been through this stage, shouldn’t we have this same determination to rise up every time we fall too? I believe everyone has this determination — when we remember how we had stood up every time we fell. The next time when you are facing some challenges, do try to remember how you had learned to walk.

56. In the first paragraph, the author intends to tell us .

A. we have all forgot how we learned to walk as a baby

B. he could have good long-term memory earlier than others

C. he could remember how we learned to walk as a baby

57. Why does the author describe how his twin nephews were learning to walk?

A. To help readers call up their sweet memories.

B. To further explain a baby’s long-term memory.

C. To give the readers some inspiration.

D. To help readers recall how they learned to walk.

58. What is the most important thing in how his twin nephews learned to walk, according to the author?

A. Practice.

B. Courage.

C. Encouragement from adults.

D. Determination.

59. The purpose of the author in writing this passage is to .

A. prove when babies begin to have long-term memories

B. describe how we learned to walk as babies

C. call on us not to give up easily when meeting challenges

D. ask us to keep up sweet childhood memories

60. The passage above is most probably taken from .

A. a science report

B. a research paper

C. a personal journal

D. a persuasive article

B

There are many opinions today about whether men or women work harder, and whether men don’t really have any cares and are allowed to ju st sit back and relax. At my household my dad doesn’t really do the dishes, wash, or do any of the household chores and when we go to family events, the men are usually watching some sort of sporting events on TV. In a recent news article a Princeton economist, Alan Krueger, states, “For a woman, time with her parents often resembles work, whether it’s helping them pay bills or plan a family gathering. For men, it tends to be sitting on the sofa and watching football matches with their dad.” At all of my fa mily get-togethers, even on both sides of the family, this is picture-perfect as to what the author says. Why is it always the women who have to do the dishes after a nice meal while the men sit and relax watching TV? I think that it’s how we were brough t up. It just seems like tradition. In most cases it seems that men have a longer work day or a harder work day than most women. This is true with my family and relatives. However, I still think that everyone should have to do their fair share of work around the house and at family get-togethers.

With the topic of men relaxing, I also read another article that talks about how women work harder in school and care more about their GPA than men do. It seems like guys just like to sit back and relax in s chool and that they don’t care about their grades as much as girls do. I know at my school this is true. Guys will admit that they don’t care as much about their grades as the girls do. I think most people just expect that girls do better in school because they are more patient with their work.

61. At the author’s household, her dad .

A. only do housework sometimes

B. help her mom do some housework

C. do most of the housework

D. never do the housework

62. We can learn from the first paragraph that .

A. the author quite agrees with Alan Krueger’s statement

B. women prefer to spend time with their parents

C. the author’s family is quite unique in society

D. the author thinks Alan Krueger’s idea goes to extreme

63. What is the author’s attitude towards men relaxing?

A. She doesn’t give her personal opinion.

B. She thinks men work harder and therefore needs to relax.

C. She thinks men relax too much at home.

D. She thinks women should be more considerate.

64. According to the author, men sit and relax watching TV because .

A. they play a more important role in society

B. they work longer and harder during the day

C. they do more important jobs than women

D. they are not good at housework as women

65. What do we know about boys and girls at school?

A. Boys always have better grades than girls.

B. Boys care more about grades than girls.

C. Girls are expected to do better at school.

D. Boys are expected to work even harder.

In all one's lifetime it is oneself that one spends the most time being with or dealing with.

71. ___________________. When you are going upwards in life you tend to overestimate yourself. It seems that everything you seek for is within your reach; luck and opportunities will come your way and you are overjoyed that they constitute (组成,构成) part of your worth. When you are going downhill you tend to underestimate yourself, mistaking difficulties and adversities for your own incompetence. It's likely that you think it wise for yourself to know your place and avoid wasting your life.

72. ____________________. You may look forward hopefully to the future but be sure not to expect too much, for ideals can never be fully realized. You may be courageous to meet challenges but it should be clear to you where to direct your efforts.

73._____________________. Whether you think you are a high mountain or a small stone, you represent a state of nature that has its own advantage. If you earnestly admire yourself you'll have a real sense of self-appreciation, which will give you confidence. As soon as you gain full confidence in yourself you'll be enabled to fight and overcome any difficulty. .

74._____________________. In time of anger, do yourself a favor by giving vent(出气口) to it in a quiet place so that you won't be hurt by its flames; in time of sadness, do yourself a favor by sharing it with your friends so as to change a gloomy mood into a cheerful one; in time of tiredness, do yourself a favor by getting a good sleep or taking some tonic. Show yourself loving concern about your health and daily life. As you are aware, what a person physically has is but a human body that's vulnerable when exposed to the elements. So if you fall ill, it's up to you to take a good care of yourself. Unless you know perfectly well when and how to do yourself a favor, you won't be confident and ready enough to resist the attack of illness.

75.__________________. If you can know well how things work and perform in a proper way, then you will find your life full of color and flavor.

A. To get a thorough understanding of oneself needs self appreciation.

B. To get a thorough understanding of oneself is to gain a correct view of oneself and be aware of both one's strength and shortage.

C. But it is clearly oneself that one has the least understanding of.

D. To get a thorough understanding of oneself is to get a full control of one's life.

E. To get a thorough understanding of oneself also requires doing oneself a favor when it's needed.

F. So long as you have a perfect knowledge of the world there won't be difficulties you can't overcome

All the houses are painted white and the skies are clear. It's not surprising that the life here is very relaxing, and it is also home to plenty of cafes and art galleries. Wengen in Switzerland Do you ever wonder how the world was before cars were invented? The village called Wengen might just help you realize your dreams. Cars have been banned from this area for close to 100 years, and everything looks like it was taken right out of Heidi. The locals have kept their Swiss culture undamaged. Shirakawa-go in Japan This village is certainly known for its unusual houses with triangular roofs which seem to resemble hands joined in prayer. It's designed to keep snow from piling up on top of houses. These houses are the symbol of the area but there aren't many of them left anymore. Eze in France France in itself is pretty, but its most attractive village is Eze. This community seems to be frozen in time. This village is the perfect melting pot of cultures because of its closeness to Nice. During the Middle Ages, it was desired by invaders(侵略者),and while this was a cause of sadness for the local people in the past, today the village enjoys its rich heritage(遗产).The architecture here is so diverse. I wanted to say “no” until I looked down at their feet. They were wearing th in little sandals(凉鞋), wet with heavy snow. “Come in and I'll make you a cup of hot cocoa.” They walked over and sat down at the table. The silence in the front room struck me. I looked in. The girl held the empty cup in her hands, looking at it. The boy asked in a flat voice, “Lady, are you rich?” “Am I rich? They had reminded me that I had so much for which to be grateful. Plain blue china cups and saucers were only worth five pence. But they matched. I tasted the potatoes and stirred(搅动)the meat soup. Potatoes and brown meat soup, a roof over our heads, my man with a regular job, these matched, too. I moved the chairs back from the fire and cleaned the living room. 2017-2018学年高三英语期中试题

2017-2018学年度上学期高三英语试题 本试卷分第Ⅰ卷(选择题)和第Ⅱ卷(非选择题)两部分,卷面分数120分。考试用时100分钟。 第一部分:阅读理解(共两节,满分40分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分) 阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。 A I have had all kinds of interesting neighbors since the early days of my life. When I was a baby I would stand in my wooden crib(婴儿床) and watch the world go by through the window. Some neighbors watched me watching the world go by with by big, wondering eyes and found me very interesting. They used to call me “the beauty at the window”. The early neighbors I could remember were from the second house I lived in. Peter and Paul were twins. We went to play school together although they were a year older than me. I well remember the Alsatian they had which ran into me when I was invited to their fifth birthday party. Needless to say, I was well-known for my loud screams after the party. But they said the pet was scared of my screams and didn’t appear until the party was over. Peter and Paul were the first boys who encouraged me to climb the gate. I could never tell the difference between boy and girl behaviors—I just did what I thought was fun. Not only did I have a great time performing that first climb, I also got my skirts dirty, and was criticized by my mother. The Japanese neighbors I had living in this same house were my favorite, as they introduced me to sea-salt baked shrimps (烤虾) which were so crisp that you could eat the shrimp totally. They gave me some seaweed for my birthday. Thankfully, no other member in my family enjoyed the seaweed as I did. Perhaps what my mother used to joke to me was true, that I was picked up out of the dustbin that belonged to a Japanese home. Maybe sometimes it is difficult to find good neighbors in this society. But all it takes is a spark(火花) to get a fire going. I have decided to be that spark wherever I live and pass love on to my neighbors. 21. We can guess "the Alsatian" in the twin brothers' home is ___________. A. a small child B. an interesting toy C. a dog D. a bicycle 22. From the passage we can know that the author___________. A. enjoyed the Japanese neighbors' cooking style most B. had difficulty getting on with the twin brothers' family C. was described as interesting when playing with boys D. had many neighbors that worked in restaurants 23. What can we infer from the passage? A. The author often moved to other places. B. Peter and Paul liked to play tricks on others. C. The neighbors the author had were good at cooking. D. The author had a good relationship with her neighbors. B Below are four ads on the website.Artful Experience It’s an artful experience even if you’re artistically challenged.
