Getting your children to study can be a little like getting them to eat their vegetables.

Make a study time and have it at the same time every day. This will help your kids to learn to schedule their day and will give them a sense of control over how they spend their time.

Allow them to study in blocks of time, such as for half an hour with a five-minute break in the middle. Ideal (理想的) study times are after dinner or right after school before dinner.

Never allow your children to study in front of the television, as that will encourage passive activity.

You’ll also need to help your kids find the right place to study. After you’ve set up a good study time for little learners, set up a good place where they can get those creative juices flowing.

Make sure there is a table or a desk and a comfortable chair.

This includes helping them out with their homework sometimes and being there for them with the answers to any questions. The input you give your children during study periods will help form a bond and help make studying enjoyable.

A. Pick a place where your children can study properly.

B. Hold them to the schedule they create for themselves.

C. Finally, spend time with your kids when they’re studying.

D. Keep the atmosphere light and offer lots of encouragement, too.

E. Instead, use TV as a treat or a reward when the homework is completed.

F. Try to stop this bad habit by offering some sort of reward.

G. One of the best ways to form good study habits for your kids is to design a schedule

that they keep to.

When you change yourself, you will add value in your workplace.Like the late great business philosopher,Jim Rohn said,“You can take out the garbage at McDonalds and earn minimum wage. But if you take out the garbage and whistle as you do it every day, you’re likely to earn 50 cents more per hour.”Add value to your workplace by controlling your own attitude. ______.

A. Improper body language results from nervousness

B. Body movement should command attention

C. Use images with a few words for notes

D. Make a video of the presentation

E. Make quick improvement

F. Try to gesture naturally

Improve the Public Speaking With Body Language

A successful public speaker does not only focus on what to say, but the physical message of presentation. Some call this “body language.” It includes posture, eye contact and gestures - how you move your hands or arms. Charles LeBeau, a professor of public speaking tells about how to do it well.

1. ________. Presenters may not f eel at ease because they’re doing a presentation. They may worry about their poor English, and their lack of confidence. They’re trying to figure out the grammar and what to say. They’re having all kinds of difficulty doing presentation, and also controlling their body. They may move from side to side. Besides, it’s not a good idea for a presenter to stand perfectly still. In fact an audience can lose interest in a speaker who does not move.

2. ________. With posture, the typical problem is that they are often moving back and forth, and they’re not facing the audience. They don’t catch the audience’s attention. They are only trying to talk from notes, facing the white board or the screen with slides rather than talking to the audience. Same thing with eye contact. Besides, some experts advise moving your body to a different place for each idea. Stay in place until you finish making that point. Then move to the next place on the stage or in the room.

3.________. Images should help communicate the point you want to make. Writing a few words with the image on your slide instead of sentences helps you remember that point. If you can figure out what images to use that will communicate your message, because the images will communicate faster and more clearly than words. Then you can look at the audience while speaking.

4. ________. Holding on to notes makes it more difficult for a speaker to have a proper gesture. Mr. LeBeau’s book, “Speaking of Speech,” di scusses this. He says gestures should support the point the speaker is making. For example, when talking about three ideas, hold up three fingers to introduce them. Then hold up one finger while explaining the first idea, two fingers for the second, and so on.

5.________. It can help you see from a different angle, you may clearly see: “Oh, My! I had no idea that I looked like that! My posture! I’m moving all over the place. Look at my hips. It’s going back and forth and back and forth. And my eye contact! All o f these other goofy things that I’m doing without noticing it, or thinking that ‘well, it’s not such a big deal.’ Once you see what you are doing, you may change more quickly. So you can do your presentation again, and work on changing, then you can compare, and see that you can make quick improvement.

An important part of public speaking is practice. When you practice remember these important tips: Be aware of your posture, eye contact, and gestures. Record yourself using a phone, tablet, or camera. Watch yourself and plan what you will do to improve.

We all regard receiving presents as a pleasant experience and yet it can be one of the most awkward situations. It is often difficult to look pleased when you receive a gift which is entirely useless or the wrong size.

However, you have no right to change an article purchased just because it does not fit or is not to your liking. Worse still, the agreement on the sale is

between the person who bought it and the shop.

So you will have to tell your fav orite aunt that the T-shirt does not fit. But an exchange is not always that simple because there has to be a good reason for it.

For example, if the buyer was told that a switch was voice operated and later found out it was not, then action could be taken. You would have the right

to return it and get the money back.

But if you are returning something, no matter what the reason is, you will be expected

to have proof of purchase. If the receipt cannot be found, then it is possible to

use another proof of purchase such as a credit card receipt.

Man y big stores have a much more tolerant policy towards returns and see it as a gesture of goodwill to exchange goods without question. Stores including Marks & Spencer are well known for their “no argument” policy on returned goods. So if a shop refuses to exchange the goods or to offer a refund(退款), the seller

is likely to be within his legal rights unless there is something wrong with the goods. In that case, the boot is on the other foot. You have every right to demand

a cash refund or a replacement, but only if you have returned it within a “reasonable” time.

Some shops and stores expect things to be returned within a week of purchase, while others may permit a much longer time limit. In any case if you return a thing after what is considered a “reasonable” time, then all you are legally entitled

to is the cost of repair.

A. It is unlike anything you would buy for yoursel f.

B. If all of these have been lost, you may have to rely on a witness.

C. However, shoppers should remember this is a privilege, not a right.

D. Unfortunately, the law does not explain what is meant by “reasonable”.

E. All you can do is exchange it after your friend or relative has gone home.

F. Either the thing has to be broken or unsuitable for the job it was intended to do.

G. You should make clear what your legal position is before returning goods to the shops.

5. 注意一些连词 如一些表示转折的连词,but,However,yet,though,nevertheless 等,另外还有一些表示并列关系的连词如and,also,as well as,neither nor,either or,not only...but also,on the one hand....on the other hand等。

The Olympic Weightlifting While weightlifting is used in many sports and athletic training, Olympic weightlifting is the name of the official sport name.1There are special conditions they have to meet in order to compete: body weight, height and strength. 2How fast and with what level of mobility(活动性)can the athlete perform the lift? In the competition, both mobility and lifting speed are evaluated together with the athlete’s strength. The techniques specific to the sport are part of the training schemes and programs of many excellent athletes. The weights used for Olympic weightlifting are added in 1 kilogram. The order by which athletes enter the competition is not general, but it is set depending on the event.3If he/she is not successful, he/she can try later, but there is a maximum of three lifts allowed per

All singing, all dancing and unrealistic, it is the perfect alternative to normal Hollywood movies. Bollywood is the Indian film industry, based in Mumbai, formerly known as Bombay. 1 Yet Bollywood is the largest producer of films in the world. This year the Indian Filmgare Awards, Bollywood's Oscars, turn 50 years old. The typical Bollywood movie usually has the following ingredients: a cup of romance, a tea-spoon of comedy, a dash of international sight-seeing, served with a huge slice of singing and dancing. There will also be one brave hero, one beautiful heroine and one baddie. 2 Bollywood films are full of ideal things and free of daily worries. 3The actors change clothes and locations within a single song. But the audience don't mind. T o Indian movie lovers, especially the poor, such films are a gateway to heaven and the stars are their gods. The films take them to a magical world away from their everyday troubles. The films tell them the impossible is possible and that true love conquers all. 4Behind the beautiful scenes, Bollywood still emphasizes traditional family values. In most films, if two lovers want to break an arranged marriage, they can't just run away. They must win over their parents. Bollywood is a decent refreshing replacement for those over-stimulating Hollywood films. 5They will take you to a brighter, cheerier and more colorful world, where it's still cool to dance around a tree and sing a love song. 高二英语 阅读理解(共两节,满分40分) 第一节(共15小题,每小题2分,满分30分) A Edmund Halley was an English scientist who lived over 200 years ago. He studied the observations of comets(彗星) which other scientists had made. The orbit of one particular comet was a very difficult mathematical problem. He could not figure it out. Neither could other scientists who dealt with such problems. However, Halley had a friend named Isaac Newton, who was a brilliant mathematician. Newton thought he had already worked out that problem, but he could not find the papers on which he had done it. He told Halley that the orbit of a comet had the shape of an ellipse. Now Halley set to work. He figured out the orbits of some of the comets that had been observed by scientists. He made a surprising discovery. The comets that had appeared in the years 1531, 1607 and 1682 all had the same orbit. Yet their appearances had been 75 to 76 years apart. This seemed very strange to Halley. Three different comets followed the same orbit. The more Halley thought about, the more he thought that there had not been three different comets, as people thought. He decided that they had simply seen the same comet three times. The comet had gone away and had come back again. It was an astonishing idea! Halley felt certain enough to make a prediction of what would happen in the future. He decided that this comet would appear in the year 1758. There were 53 years to go before Halley's prediction could be tested. In 1758 the comet appeared in the sky. Halley did not see it, for he had died some years before. Ever since then that comet had been called Halley's comet, in his honour. 1.Halley made his discovery________. Beehives (蜂窝)—either recorded or real—may even prevent elephants from damaging farmer’s crops. In 2002, scientist Lucy King and her team found that elephants avoid certain trees with bees living in them. Today, Lucy wants to see if African honeybees might discourage elephants from eating crops. But before she asked farmer to go to the trouble of setting up beehives on their farms, she needed to find out if the bees would scare elephants away. Lucy found a wild beehive inside a tree in northern Kenya and set up a recorder. Then she threw a stone into the beehive, which burst into life. Lucy and her assistant hid in their car until the angry bees had calmed down. Next,Lucy searched out elephant families in Samburu National Reserve in northern Kenya and put a speaker in a tree close to each family. From a distance, Lucy switched on the pre-recorded sound of angry bees while at the same time recording the elephants with a video camera. Half the elephant groups left the area within ten seconds. Out of a total of 17 groups, only one group ignored the sound of the angry bees. Lucy reported that all the young elephants immediately ran to their mothers to hide under them. When Lucy played the sound of a waterfall (瀑布) instead of the angry bees to many of the same elephant families, the animals were undisturbed. Even after four minutes, most of the groups stayed in one place. Lucy is now studying whether the elephants will continue to avoid the sound of angry bees after hearing it several times. She hasn’t tested enough groups yet to know, but her initial (最初的) results were promising enough to begin trials with farmers. She has now begun placing speakers in the fields to see if elephants are frightened away. 5. We know from the passage that elephants may be frightened of .
