How Should Parents Help Children to Be Independent?

Nowadays a phenomenon occurs that children despite whether they have become an adultalways fail to do the things which are their duties to do. And it is even worse that those things always have been done by parents. It reflects objectively that children lackindependence.

In fact, children’s lack of independence should be attributed to their parents as well as themselves. In thefirst place, most families own only one child, which makes parents can’t help spoiling their children. Parents do everything they can do yet ignore whether it is suitable for them to do to avoid making children feel a bit tired. And besidesthe society forces the young to be competitive and knowledgeable, which exerts a huge burden of schoolwork on them. Parents are eager for children to get good marks as well as lead a successful life in the future. What the children should do then become the parents’ missions. What’s more, on the other hand, for children, it is common to see parents finish and prepare everything for themselves. It drives themto get lazier and lazier. Eventually they are no longer independent.

Although the phenomenon is universal, Ipoint that it is improper. Every child is bound to live alone without parents’ accompanying. So parents must foster children’s ability of independence. In my view, parents firstly should give up the notion of helping children do everything as long as they can. Forcing them to do they what they should do is necessary. However,if children can’t finish perfectly at the very beginning, parents can encourage them and teach them the methods but not replace them. In addition, the fostering should be progressed little by little.
