In a wider sense, the drive train includes all of its components used to transform stored (chemical, solar, nuclear, kinetic, potential, etc) energy into kinetic energy for propulsion purposes. 2. How to install the drive gear? First, clean the drive gear attaching bolts. Second, remove the adhesive adhered to the threaded holes of the drive gear by turning the special tool, and then clean the treaded holes by applying compressed air. Third, apply the specified adhesive to the threaded holes of the drive gear. Forth, install the drive gear onto the differential case with the mating marks properly aligned. Tighten the bolts to the specified torque in a diagonal sequence. 3. What is the process of the ABS working? The Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) uses a sensor that know when one wheel (or a pair of wheels) is skidding. The sensor sends a signal to a computer, which signals a modulator valve. The modulator connects into the hydraulic system and can momentarily release the brake pressure and prevent the wheels from locking. (The pressure release is so fast that a driver is seldom aware of it.) Pressure is then reapplied until the sensor again sensor that the wheel is about to lock up. Thus, this system keeps the wheels as colse to lock up as possible, without actually allowing the wheels to lock up and skid. This is called incipient lock up. Maximum braking occurs at that point. 4. What is the purpose of gear reduction from steering gear? The gear reduction is known as steering gear ratio. This is needed to reduce the amount of effort required to turn the steering wheel, particularly when parking. During straight-ahead driving, this also reduces the possiblility of oversteering. The ratios vary considerably, depending largely on vehicle size and weight. Larger, heavier vehicles require a graeter reduction in manual steering gears. 5. How does the starter clutch work? The purpose of the starter clutch is to engage and disengage the pinion gear from the flywheel. When the starer is cranking, the pinion gear slides on the armature shaft and engages the flywheel. 6. How to check DTC in the normal mode? First, turn ignition switch off. Second, connect terminals TE1 and E1 of data link connector 1 or 2. Third, Turn ignition switch on. 科技信息 随着我国改革开放的不断深入和成功加入世界贸易组织、成功举办奥运会和上海世博会,国外汽车企业、汽车产品、汽车专业人才不断进入中国市场,中国的汽车企业、产品、汽车专业人才也不断地走出国门。社会对车辆工程专业人才的需求量也越来越大,并且对汽车专业人才的英语素质要求也越来越高。与几十年前相迥异,当前哑巴英语已经不能满足时代的需要,车辆工程专业人才在日常工作与生活中随时随地都有可能需要运用英语进行交流,这需要听、说、读、写、译等能力的全面提高。为了适应新的人才需求形势,不少高校的车辆工程专业都开设了《汽车专业英语》这门课程,该课程是一门实践性很强的语言技能培养课程,注重对学生语言表达和语言感染力的培养,提高学生的创新意识,拓宽学生的视野。故《汽车专业英语》是车辆工程专业必修课体系中不可或缺的一部分,学生只有通过阶段性《汽车专业英语》课程的学习才能更好地满足时代提出的新要求,更好地服务于社会主义现代化建设。但是,我们必须清醒理智地认识到目前《汽车专业英语》教学仍然存在很大的弊病和不足:课堂中学生消极被动,教师组织不力,教材枯燥陈旧,形式单一呆板,故学生的听、说、读、写、译等能力都未得到充分的锻炼与发展,教学效果有待进一步提高。面临新的时代和市场需求,车辆工程专业英语教学方法应做出相应调整。本文根据车辆工程专业对英语技能的要求特点对《汽车专业英语》教学方法进行了研究。 一、注重专业词汇的训练 全面提高车辆工程专业学生的英语应用能力实际上就是要提高该专业学生运用英语进行听、说、读、写、译的能力。而上述五个方面的能力都离不开词汇这个基础,如果词汇基础薄弱,英语听、说、读、写、译的能力不可能得到大幅的提高。就以英语听力为例,对于中国学生来说,如果将某个单词写在纸上都不认识,那么将这个单词放录音给学生听,也不会明白其含义,进而,也很难理解与该单词相关联的句子。从上面的例子可以看出,学生英语综合素质的提高依赖于词汇量的增加。如何在日常教学中提高学生的词汇量是每一个《汽车专业英语》授课教师所要思考的首要问题。结合笔者的教学经验,可以采用如下方法提高学生的词汇量。(1)背诵单词。《汽车专业英语》课本的编写通常都是前面部分为课文,介绍专业知识,后面列有词汇表。在日常教学中,首先要求学生将课后单词表上的所有词汇背熟,做到脱离课本也能默写、朗读,这样就奠定了应用单词的基础。(2)讲解与训练词汇。《汽车专业英语》的课文都紧密结合专业单词的应用来编写,课后所有出现的词汇在课文中都有出现与应用。教师在授课时应该仔细讲解课文,将专业词汇的用法在课文中指出来,作为知识点让学生学习。在此基础上,要求学生独立完成课后作业,以起到练习词汇的目的。同时,教师可以布置一些有针对性的单词训练作业,以巩固教学效果。(3)阅读文献。背诵专业词汇是每一个车辆工程专业的学生都感到棘手的问题,特别是巩固词汇,更让学生头痛不已。学生往往只需要花一小时左右的时间来背诵某个词汇表,而往往需要花数倍的时间来巩固,这使得学生感到非常枯燥,力不从心。现在的本科生学习兴趣广博,对新技术特别钟爱,喜欢涉猎汽车领域内的新技术、新动向。为了变被动为主动,教师可以通过引导学生采用阅读汽车专业的外文文献的方法来帮助学生复习词汇。因为,国外汽车领域的最新外文文献一般都是国外专家对汽车的最新研究成果,代表了汽车技术的未来发展方向,学生对之很感兴趣。同时,这些文献包含了大量的汽车专业词汇,学生在阅读这些文献时,不自觉地重复遇到所背诵的新词汇,于是,在不知不觉中复习了新词汇,同时还不感到枯燥。另外,学生还可以在阅读中了解新词汇的用法。(4)测验新词汇。考试是指挥棒,考试成绩对学生每学年的评奖、评优、将来找工作都有着非常重要的影响。因此,为了促进学生学习专业词汇,可以在试卷中加一些考察词汇的题型,这样学生就会不遗余力地学习专业词汇,达到教师的教学目的。 二、注重口语表达能力的培养 对于车辆工程专业的学生来说,英语口语表达能力往往是专业英语学习中最薄弱的环节。通常,学生可以看懂、听懂一个英语句子,但是自己却很难说出相同的句子。然而,随着中国汽车工业不断与世界接轨,用人单位对汽车专业人才英语素质的要求也越来越高。现在,用人单位已经不满足于学生仅仅通过国家四、六级英语考试,而是在人才招聘中直接采取英语口语面试。因此,提高学生口语表达能力已迫在眉睫。为了提高学生的英语口语表达能力,教师可以在日常教学过程中采取如下教学方法:(1)背诵英语短文。汽车专业技术的英语表达并不能脱离日常英语口语而独立存在,日常英语口语表达是汽车专业英语表达的基础,要想锻炼过硬的汽车专业英语表达能力,必须从锻炼日常英语口语开始。因此,效仿婴儿学语的经验,笔者主张汽车专业学生有选择地背诵一些英语文章,这样在英语对话交流时就可以不自觉地应用所背诵的表达方式,起到事半功倍的效果。比较好的背诵材料很多,例如《英语九百句》、《新概念英语》、《疯狂英语之脱口而出》等。根据笔者的经验,只要学生能背诵50篇左右的英语短文,其英语口语表达能力就可以大幅地提高。(2)开展英语演讲。开展英语演讲有助于强化学生的语言基本功,提高口语交际能力。演讲,顾名思义有演有讲,以“讲”为主,以“演”为辅。演讲要求说话者用准确的发音、得体的措辞、恰当的文风和优美的修辞向听众传达信息,这无疑对演讲的语言基本功提出了很高的要求。教师开展英语演讲可以分成两个阶段进行:第一阶段,在学期初始阶段,每位学生自选题目,以自己的将来需要参加什么样的英语面试为假想环境(或参加公司口语面试、或参加国外留学面试、或参加研究生口语复试)进行5分钟的英语演讲,这样不仅可以锻炼学生的英语表达能力,也可以为将来的英语口语应用打下基础。在演讲完之后,其他同学可以模拟考官运用英语对其进行提问,以进一步提高教学效果。第二阶段,要求每个学生出一道演讲题目并写在卡片上,然后将卡片交给教师,这样就形成了一个话题库,在演讲之前,教师随机抽取演讲题目,以增加演讲的难度与趣味性。(3)开展英语辩论。为了进一步强化学生的语言基本功,提高其口语交际能力、促进其运用英语进行思维,可以开展英语辩论。在这一教学环节教师主要借助多媒体,以教学视频与PPT的形式给学生展示国外辩论的具体知识,主要包括起源、流程、辩手的发言顺序和发言时间、辩手的职责分工以及使用POI(Point of Information)的规则。其中重点在于讲解辩手的发言顺序和发言时间、辩手的职责分工,因为在后一阶段的模拟辩论中所参加的学生必须牢记自己的发言顺序、时间以及职责,这样才能保证整个辩论有序有节的进行。 发言顺序及时间: 建设性发言 ⅰ.正方一辩(7分钟) ⅱ.反方一辩(8分钟) ⅲ.正方二辩(8分钟) ⅳ.反方二辩(8分钟) 总结陈词 ⅴ.反方一辩总结(4分钟) ⅵ.正方一辩总结(5分钟) 辩手职责分工: ⅰ.正方一辩: 引入命题,提供清晰的定义,使命题明确可辩;设定辩论目标及标准,概述己方观点,提供证据,简介具体措施方案。 ⅱ.反方一辩: 对对方定义做出评价,接受或质疑正方定义;考察正方的观点及论点,指出其错误或缺陷;提出己方的观点及论点,提供可替代方案。 ⅲ.正方二辩: 回应反方一辩对定义的质疑,反驳对方的观点、论点;提供更多的事实、数据、例证来支持、深化一辩已经建立起来的框架。 ⅳ.反方二辩: 针对正方二辩的发言运用更多事实、数据、 《汽车专业英语》教学方法研究 安徽工程大学机械与汽车工程学院肖平高洪时培成 [摘要]为了提高《汽车专业英语》的教学质量,培养车辆工程专业学生英语听、说、读、写、译等能力,本文对《汽车专业英语》的教学 方法进行了研究。首先,分析了当前社会对车辆工程专业学生英语素质的需求特点,在此基础上对《汽车专业英语》的教学方法进行 了研究,认为采用“注重专业词汇训练、注重口语表达能力培养、注重阅读能力的培养、注重口语表达能力培养”等教学方法可以提高 学生的英语综合运用能力,教学实践表明该方法行之有效,可以起到良好的教学效果。 [关键词]汽车专业英语教学方法研究 基金项目:本文受安徽省教育厅“高等学校省级教学质量与教学改革工程项目——2009年省级人才培养模式创新试验区”资助;安徽工程科技学院教研项目资助(2008YJY04)。 作者简介:肖平(1973-),博士生,讲师,主要从事汽车英语教学方面的研究。 (下转第54页)— —52

The fuel system comprises the units designed to store, clear and deliver fuel, the units intended to clean air and a unit for preparing a mixture from fuel vapor and air. Some of the important components are fuel tank, fuel pump, fuel filter, carburetor, intake manifold and fuellines or tubes connecting the tank, pump and the carburetor. The fuel tank is a fuel container used for storing fuel. It is made of sheet metal. It is attached to the vehicle frame with metal traps and is located at the rear of the vehicle. They are mounted in a boot or boot-floor pan in case of front-engined cars and small commercial vehicles. In order to strengthen the tank as well as to prevent surging of fuel when the vehicle rounds a curve of suddenly stops, baffle plates are attached to the inside of the tank. A cap is used to close the filler opening of the tank. The fuel line is attached at or near the bottom of the tank with a filtering element placed at the connection. The other components of the fuel tank are the fuel gauge sending unit, a vent pipe, receiving unit. To prevent the dirt and water from entering the luggage compartment, a sealing strip is fitted between the fuel tank and boot floor pan. Moreover to limit the transmission of frame distortion to the tank giving rise to squeaking as the metal parts get rubbed together, rubber or felt pads are often fitted between the mountings and the tank. Provision is also made against drumming of the tank by these mountings. The tank may be placed at the side of the chassis frame for convenience in case of large commercial vehicles. The length of the connecting lines or tubes from the tank to the carburetor is also restricted by this at the same time. A porous filter is attached to the outlet lines. By drawing fuel from the tank through the filter, any water in the bottom of the tank as well as any dirt into the fuel gathers on the surface of the filter. To keep the fuel always under atmospheric pressure, the filter pipe or tank is vented. In order to prevent dirt in the fuel from entering the fuel pump or carburetor, fuel filters and screens are used in the fuel system. If the dirt is not removed from the fuel, the normal operation of these units will be prevented. The engine performance will also be reduced.
