Part C

Listen to a recorded passage three times and fill in the blanks numbered from 16 to 23 with the exact words you have just heard. For blanks numbered from 24 to 25 you are required to fill in the missing information. For these blanks, you can either use the exact words you have just heard or write down the main points in your own words.

In the next 8 years, Shanghai must use real actions to complete a process of 16 transition from hardware platforms to software platforms to 17 ensure the success hosting of World Expo 2010. The primary tasks that must be achieved during this process of practical work are: Urban development must go from improving construction to improving 18 management; Subjects of investment must go from being predominantly government based to diversified 19 subjects throughout society. The recruiting of talent must move from Shanghai localization to internationalization. Government 20 functions must move from a leadership role to a service role. Throughout the overall process of hosting World Expo, apart from practical work we must also have a practical and realistic attitude and strive to 21 coordinate four aspects of work properly, namely, make proper scientific 22 forecasts to coordinate the scale of demand and 23 investment; Make a good job of scientific planning to coordinate the construction of venues and the city’s overall development; 24 Make a good job of the building of talent reserves to coordinate service

hardware and software; Make a good job of industry linkages to coordinate the exhibitions economy and tourism economy. 25 If we can achieve the tasks above, that would be the best definition of "World Expo bid spirit" and to go from a successful bid to the successful hosting of the event, what we need can be summed up in one word "practicality".

Task:For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a shore essay on the topic of students selecting their lecturers. You should write at least 120 words following the outline given below:

On Students Selecting Lecturers

As present, some colleges and universities allow their students to choose their own teachers for certain courses. In fact, the students welcome this innovative practice.

When it comes to the choice of teachers, some factors should be taken into consideration. On one hand, a learned teacher is preferred. After all, for students, studying is always given the first priority. A teacher with plentiful knowledge can ease the burden of studying for his students and provide them with many opportunities to enlarge their scope of knowledge and realize their potentials as well. On the other hand, a teacher with an ingenious and humorous teaching style is preferable. To a large extent, whether a lecture is welcomed by the students or not depends largely on the way of teaching rather than its content. No one can deny that an interesting interaction between the teacher and his students is far more enjoyable than a boring monologue by the teacher himself.

As each coin has two sides, the selection of teachers by students is no exception. It goes without saying that it can arouse student’s interest in their studies. Such phenomenon as being absent from classes or paying no attention to the classes may eradicate. Nevertheless, it cannot be denied that it can bring about some side effects. The management of classes may be in disorder. Some teachers may be warmly welcomed so the number of the students may be too large while

other courses have only few attendants.

It can be concluded that allowing students to choose their own teachers has both positive and negative effects. What we must do is to make sure the positive ones are encouraged and the negative ones are minimized as far as possible.

Linda, my good friend, has received good education and is both beautiful and elegant. She was not proposed to even when she was well over thirty. The reason is that she, as a career –oriented woman, is devoted to her work. Navigating between home and the company, she had hardly any time to socialize with people of the opposite sex. Her parents were gripped by anxiety at the thought of their daughter still remaining single at such an age. They did not know what to do and even consulted with some sociologists. But the situation began to change last month, when the headquarters of the company transferred Linda to the training department. On the new post, Linda met a man who tugged on her heartstrings for the first time. Ever since then, they dated virtually on a daily basis, and Linda realized that she would love the man beyond all reason. When she decided to take the matrimonial plunge, she informed me. Though Linda’s love is reminiscent of the romance that we see only in movies and I don’t know what the future will hold for her, I give her my heart-felt wishes and agree readily to be a member of the entourage of bridesmaids and groomsmen. unit1响尾蛇伤 我们在西波顿种植西瓜和香瓜供应市场。
