How to lighten the springs for a model 66, 73, or Henry rifle

How to lighten the springs for a model 66, 73,

or Henry rifle.

Here is what a properly lightened mainspring looks like.

Here is what that mainspring looks like compared to a stock Uberti mainspring. Notice that the top surface of the spring is ground and sanded lengthwise. This removes the diagonal lines that are in the original spring. Doing this will eliminate the chance that one of those

lines will develop into a crack.

The photo on the left shows properly lightened lever/lifter arm springs. The photo on the right shows the thickness of these springs compared to a stock Uberti spring. Notice that the grinding and sanding lines run lengthwise on these springs, so they won’t develop into cracks. When you do this, make sure that the little tips of the springs are smooth and round where they ride on the lever and lifter

arm.
