Summary of The Old Man And The Sea (1)

The old man and the sea is a middle novel written by Hemingway. It is a most famous novel in the world.

At the very beginning of it, the author introduces the terrible experience of the old man who lives on fishing. And then the author describes the old, gaunt but cheerful looking of the man. After that, the author introduces us a good boy, and the relationship between him and the old man. Following is a short talk between the boy and the old man, which shows us the kind, optimistic and persistent characters of the old man. According to this talk, we readers also know the common experience of the old man and the little boy. We can realize the deep affection between them and why the boy is thirsty to go fishing with the old man.

After that, the old man and the boy talks about the plan of tomorrow. The old man wants to gamble and go far, the boy wants to help him but he refuses. Then, they make preparations for the sail. Everything is simple. Next the author represents the humble room that the old man lives. What is more, the boy brings some food for the old man and they talk about baseball teams, managers, players and games. Finally the old man and the boy say goodnight to each other. On that night, the old man dreams of some happy experience when he was a boy. Especially, he
