Chemistry Experiment TheEnthalpy Change in Neutralization Name:

1.AIM

To calculate the enthalpy change in the reactions between acids and alkalis (neutralization reaction).

To be more understanding about enthalpy, acidic solution and basic solution.

2.PRINCIPLE

Formula: Q= H=qcm

Equation: NaOH(aq)+HCl(aq) H2O(l)

Key concepts: We could use a thermometer and the heat preserving equipment to calculate the change of heat about the reaction. Then we can use the change of heat and the number of mole to calculate the enthalpy change.

3.CHEMICALS&EQUIPMENTS

(1)HCl solution (25ml 1mol/L) (2)NaOH powder (1g)

(3)Enough distilled water (H2O) (4)Different size of beakers

(5)Rubber dropper (6)Glass stick

(7)spoon (8)cylinder

(9)thermometer (10)stuff to fill the crack between two beaker (11)electronic scale

4.PROCEDURES

[1] Put a clean beaker on a electronic scale and zeroed the electronic scale. Then, use spoon and electronic scale to measure out 1g NaOH powder.

[2] Pour 39g water into the beaker and dissolve the NaOH powder with a glass stick.

[3] Then, use the cylinder and the rubber dropper to measure out 25ml HCl solution.

[4] When the two solutionsare cooled to the same temperature, use the thermometer to measure the temperature of the two solutions and record down. [5] Then put one of the small beaker which has one of the two solutions in it, into a bigger beaker and use the stuff to fill the crack between them.

[6] Pour the other lind of solution into it and use glass stick to help it reacts and observing thermometer which insert to the solution until the temperature goes up and down. Record down the highest temperature.

[7]Use the formula Q= H=qcm to calculate the enthalpy change (the heat capacity of water is 4.18J/gK).

5.ATTENTION

{1}Remember to clean the beakers before and after using them with distilled water. {2}Be careful not to pour the NaOH solution into the beaker with HCl solution until it was cooled down to the same temperature with HCl solution.

{3}Attentions do not measure the NaOH the on paper, because NaOH can react with CO2and can absorb water, which will stick the chemicals on the paper and have more error.

{4}Make sure that you really get the highest temperature of the solution.

6.MEASUREMENT

7.ERROR

[1]Lost some heat out of the water in to the beaker or the stuff between the beakers.

[2]There may not be so much number of mole of HCl and NaOH reacted since the NaOH may react with the CO2in the air and the HCl also may volatilized to the air already.

Dear Sir or Madam, I am writing to formally request to withdraw from two courses: introduction to Elementary Education (EDU601) and Teaching methods (EDU 609). The main reason for reducing my course load is that I am finding it extremely difficult to manage six courses. In the beginning of the term, I was perhaps overly optimistic about juggling both my full time studies and my part time job (20 hours/week). Because I really must work part time, I have no other choice but to summer semester, if they are available, so that I will be able to complete all the courses for the degree program by the following year. I would also like to request a tuition refund, and hope I am not too late to receive the full reimbursement. I am sorry for any inconveniences I have caused by this change in plans. This decision was not taken lightly, and I do appreciate the kind consideration you have shown to me.

There is no doubt that helping students find a job is one of the primary functions of university education, but universities do exist for other purposes such as improving students’ analytical skills and raising students’ moral standards. A university education can be seen as a process of improving students’ analytical thinking. The variety of courses offered at university inspires students in various ways, therefore improving their analytical ability. For example, science courses such as math and biology help students develop a rational way of thinking whereas arts courses such as literature may let students ponder over issues from a logical,multi- dimensional perspective; and courses in social sciences force students to recognize the ideas that have been traditionally assumed to be acceptable and unproblematic.

(Funnel Experiment)

8. Consumers are faced with increasing numbers of advertisements from competing companies. Do you think this is a positive or a negative development? Television screens, newspapers, buses, and almost all city streets are flooded by all kinds of advertisements. This has both advantages and disadvantages to consumers who are unavoidably influenced, though the degrees vary from person to person. Because of the advertisements placed by many competing companies, consumers are able to learn about certain new products rapidly. If a product happens to be what some consumers need, they might be attracted to make a purchase and have trial use. If it turns out to be really good, people would set about recommending it to friends and the sales of this product will go up very quickly. So, we see this is a win-win situation both to consumers and manufacturers and we also see that consumers are not just influenced profoundly all at once. It takes time for them to establish faith in the advertised products. In most cases, the advertised products are good and worth buying. But there are also cases where the effects or functions of a certain product are much exaggerated and it will definitely fool some people when they are attracted all at once and go to buy it. Since a product can only win the market through its quality and its long established fame, there’s every reason to believe that those fake or much exaggerated products will eventually lose their market shares and die out. Thus, we see that the market is selective and consumers are sensible in the long term. In developed countries, there are strict censorship and supervising systems regarding advertising. If the advertisement put up by a company fails to honor the advertised effects, it would be termed as fraud, thus violating the law which could lead to really serious result. In most cases, the manufacturing company would be fined so heavily that it would be difficult for it to survive any longer. From the foregoing discussion, we can see that advertisements influence consumers both favorably and unfavorably and the degrees of this influence differ from person to person. To protect consumers, governments can follow the practice of developed countries by enforcing really strict censorship and supervising laws in regard to advertising as a whole.

Write a report for a university teacher describing the information shown.

Sample Answer: The provided line graphs compare the employment history of men and women in 1975 and 1995 dividing in six major sectors namely: manufacturing, communications, finance/ banking, wholesale & retail trade, non-defence public sectors and defence public sectors. As is observed from the given illustration, significant changes have been made in women's employment and women appear to have made remarkable improvements in almost the entire job sectors in Freedonia and in some sectors women went well ahead of men. Initially in 1975, men were notably ahead of women in every sector of employment. For example, in communication sector about 260 men worked against 220 women in every thousand employees. Twenty years later, though the number of men remained unchanged, the number of women rose to over 550 in one thousand. A similar trend can be seen in the wholesale and retail trade sector, where the number of women rose from about 550 to almost 800 in every 1000 employees of this sector two decades later. The number of men in this sector remained stable over the period, at around 700 / thousand.

(反方观点) 11. it is evident that, if students are interested in these theoretical knowledge, they probably become scientists and scholars, who will make greater contribution to the society. Despite that, there students are few/the minority and most of them are more concerned with job-related skills. (驳斥反方观点) 13. consequently, theoretical knowledge should not be put in the first place by universities. 14. in sum, the major function of universities should be providing students job-related skills, guaranteeing high rate of employment, and thus making the society function well. 15.Meanwhile, we should not ignore the other important roles universities are undertaking. 16. Only by doing so can universities maintain dynamic and sustainable development.

A typical application is Computer Assisted Instruction (CAI), which ai ds teacher to impart knowledge to student more efficiently by it’s multimedia ch aracters. However, a vigorous debate over the issue whether or not teacher are by no means important in pedagogy field has intrigued the public. In my submission, the computer can be great help of teacher but they can never replace or surpass the position of teacher. I will offer the following reasons. They only condense parts of teacher’s experience and intelligence. Moreover, being a successful ins tructor requires not just these factors but a wealth of experience and interpret new experiences using that information. The computer after all are man-made machi ne. Secondly, the progress of instruction is complicated and complex, and the educati onal achievement of CAI is limited. Some sorts of course, such as basic education al course( 想想什么课程用电脑教不好), are not necessarily to be expressed by the computer to reach productive effect. Finally, communications and interactions with teacher and computer are quite diff erent. The latter is too impersonal, which ruins the pleasure of emotional exchan ges. Sometimes gazing at the cold flickering screen is a disinteresting and tirin g experience. Admittedly, though computer may help teacher to provide student with a richer and more effective learning environment, yet they can not substitute the position of teacher, not only today, but the future. 范文7 Computer, as the most powerful tool in 21 century, is widely used in education areas. Whethe r computers can instead of teachers become a controversial issue. From my point, I don’t th ink computers can take the place of teachers.
