Fall 2013, Spring 2014, or Academic Year 2013-14
Instructions: Please read carefully
The U.S. government requires that all international students prove that they will be financially supported while studying in the U.S. The law requires that students provide documentation of financial support. The information is required for your I-20, which is needed for your Student Visa application. You will not be charged this amount of money; you need only show that you have access to it. Cornell University cannot issue your I-20 and the U.S. Government will not issue your visa unless the Declarations of Finances Form 2R is complete and correct. Include the form with all required supporting documents, with original signatures, seals, or stamps.
? Complete the Declaration of Finances form for your length of study:
? One semester only (fall 2013 or spring 2014), the minimum documented financial support must be $9,243 USD. ? Academic year (fall 2013 and spring 2014), the minimum documented financial support must be $18,486 USD.
? The amount of support available must total the appropriate budget for each semester or year of study, as shown in the table at the
bottom of this page (exchange students are not responsible for Cornell tuition).
? If you are receiving a scholarship, a separate letter must accompany the form. The letter must be written in English and must include:
? Your full name as it appears on your passport and application. ? The amount of the scholarship in U.S. dollars. ? The dates the scholarship will be provided.
? Certification that the scholarship funds are guaranteed; a preliminary notice will not be accepted.
? If you are showing proof of money in a bank account in the “Your savings or your family’s savings” section, a bank official must certify
that, to the best of their knowledge, the funds are available for the required minimum amount. They may also state that the letter has been issued for educational purposes and implies no responsibility on the part of the bank. See sample letter below. The bank official must sign the Declaration of Finances Form where indicated, or write and sign a separate letter. ? If a letter is written, it must be in English.
? The letter must specify the amount in US dollars.
? Simply including a bank statement showing balance will not be accepted.
? You and your parent, sponsor, or guardian must sign where indicated on the Declaration of Finances Form.
Please ask questions if there is any part of these instructions that you do not understand.
2013-14 ESTIMATED EXPENSES
The following figures are the estimated expenses for attending Cornell for one semester or a full academic year. They do not include the cost of travel within the United States or of international travel, because those amounts vary considerably for each student. Use these figures as a base for estimating the minimum amount of total assured support you will need while at Cornell.
