To know some different personalities and national types

To Guide students to train their reading skills such as skimming and scanning.

To help students to know some typical personalities of different nations

Computer, textbook and the blackboard

Teaching procedures:

Step1 Greetings

Step2 L ead in

Show students a map with some flags of different countries and then ask them whether they know all of them. Ask them which country they like the most and share their reasons, Tell students that different nations have their own typical personalities. Today’s topic is personalities and national types. Step3 Fast reading

Task1.To conclude the main idea of the text with a sentence.

The passage talks about typical personalities of different nations.

Task2. Go through the text quickly and match the personality traits with the nationalities.

Americans; confident and secure

Australians loud and rude

British reserved and cold

Chinese hard-working and motivated

Germans serious and rigid

Italians outgoing and love life

Step4 Careful reading

Task 1 Read the text carefully and find out whether the sentences are True or False.

1). Every person from a certain country has the same personality. F

→(It is impossible that every person from a certain country has the same personality.)

2). Italy and Spanish people are generally considered outgoing and friendly. T

Task 2: Ask students to go through the text quickly and answer the following questions:

1)What does the writer think of Chinese people?

2)What does “keeping a stiff upper lip” mean?

3)Is your personality influenced by national characteristics?

Ask students to go through the text quickly and get the answers as soon as possible. Then share their opinions with the whole class.
