Robots at the World Expo 2010 Shanghai play football, practice tai chi, play the violin, prepare Chinese dishes and care for the elderly. Robots created by a Chinese farmer can pour tea and paint pictures.

Global designers of robots are making them more capable, powerful and affordable, so they will play more roles in more sectors, from manufacturing to health care, and they can

help around the house.

Now Toyota, the world’s biggest car maker, and Canon, the biggest camera maker, have joined research and development to make robots a practical reality, like PCs.

The Expo Shanghai is a place where China can learn about advanced robotics, and a stage for made-in-China robots.

Developers are taking robots from ― Star Wars‖ and top laboratories and putting them into the industrial sector, even in consumer markets. They are used in health care, computer programming, manufacturing and culture.

The goals are to add more practical fountions and to cut price, and lower cost comes with higher volume.

First Aid Guided to Allergic Reaction

A severe allergic reaction (过敏反应) can produce shock and life-threatening respiratory (呼吸的) disfortune. In sensitive people, an allergic reaction can occur within minutes or up to several hours after exposure to a specific allergy-causing substance. Almost any allergy-causing substance—including insect poisonous liquids, pollen (花粉), certain foods and drugs can cause an allergic reaction. Some people have an allergic reaction from unknown causes.

If you’re extremely sensitive, you might break out in hives (麻疹), and your eyes or lips might swell severely. The inside of your throat might swell as well, even to the point of causing difficult breathing and shock. Dizziness, mental confusion, vomiting (呕吐) or diarrhea (腹泻) also may accompany an allergic reaction.

Epinephrine (肾上腺素)is the most commonly used drug for severe allergic reaction. It comes only as an injection that must be instructed by a doctor.

If you observe someone having anaphylaxis:

★Call 120 or your local medical emergency number.

★Check for special medications that the person might be carrying to treat an allergic attack, such as an auto-injector of epinephrine. Administer the drug as directed---usually by pressing the auto-injector against the person’s thigh (大腿) and holding it in place for several seconds. Massage the injection site for 10 seconds to enhance absorption. After administering epinephrine, have the person take an antihistamine (抗阻胺剂) pill if he or she is able to do so without choking.

★Have the person lie still on his or her back with feet higher than the head.

★Loosen tight clothing and cover the person with a blanket. Don’t give anything to drink.

★If there’s vomiting or bleeding from the mouth, turn the person on his or her side to prevent choking.

★If there are no signs of circulation ( breathing, coughing or movement), begin CPR.

46. An allergic reaction can be caused by ________.

A. only eating poisonous food

B. smells

C. pollen

D. several reasons, some unknown to us

47. What does the second paragraph mainly tell us?

A. The causes of an allergic reaction.

B. How an allergic reaction breaks out.

C. The symptom of an allergic reaction.

D. The kinds of allergic reaction.

48. What does the underlined word ― anaphylaxis‖ in Paragraph 4 mean?

A. An allergic reaction.

B. Swelling.

C. Mental confusion.

D. shock.

49. After treating the person with an allergic attack you should ________.

A. hold the person

B. give him some medicine as instructed if he carries it

C. massage the person on the head

D. have the person stand still

50. What’s the main idea of the passage?

A. Why people have an allergic reaction.

B. How to treat a person with an allergic reaction.

C. What is the syptom of a person with an allergic reaction.

D. What dangers might an allergic reaction brings to us.

C

A subject which seems to have been insufficiently studied by doctors and psychologists is the influence of geography and climate on the psychological and physical health of mankind. There seems no doubt that the general character of the landcape, the relative length of day and night, and the climate must all play in determining what kind of people we are.

It is true that a few studies have been made. When all the inhabitants of a particular area enjoy exceptionally good or bad health, scientists have identified contributory ( 促成的) factors such as the presence or absence of substances like iodine, fluoride, calcium, or iron in the water supply, or perhaps types of land that provide breeding places for pests like mosquitoes or rats.

Moreover, we can all generalize (总结) about types of people we have met. Those living in countries with long dark winters are apt to be less talkative and less vivacious (活泼的) than inhabitants of countries where the climate is more equable. And where the olive and the orange grow, there the inhabitants are cheerful, talkative, and spontaneous(直率的).

But these commonplace generalizations (普遍原理) are inadequate: the influence of climate and geography should be studied in depth. Do all mountain dwellers live to a ripe old age? Does the drinking of wine, rather than beer, result in a sunny and open temperament(性格)? Is the strength and height of one of the Kenyan tribes due to their habitual drinking of the blood of cows?

We are not yet sure of the answers to such questions, but let us hope that something of benefit to mankind may eventually result from such studies.

51. ________ might serve as a suitable title for this seletion.

A. The Importance of Geographical Environment

B. The Influence of Geographical Environment on Man

C. Generalization of Types of People

D. Geographical Environment, A Mysterious Subject

52. Using the context clues we may infer that ―iodine, fluoride and calcium‖ are ________.

A. substances which act positively or negatively on man’s health

B. harmful substances in the water supply

C. substances which help provide breeding places for pests

D. substances contributory to good health

53. We may infer from the third paragraph that geography and climate play an important

role in determining the inhabitants’ ________.

A. health condition

B. personality

C. life –span(寿命)

D. all of the above

54. According to the author, research into the influence of geography and climate should

________.

A. focus on some unknown aspects

B. be pursued on a larger scale

C. be carried out within a larger scope

D. go much deeper

55. The author hopes that studies on the influence of geography environment will enable us

to ________.

A. generalize better about types of people

B. find better water suppies

C. gain an insight (洞察) into its influence on mankind

D. live to a ripe old age

D

Do you forget to turn off the lights and heaters when you go out of a room? In 2040 it will not matter. They will turn themselves off –and-on again when you return. You will choose the temperature for each room, the lighting and the humidity. A sensor will detect the presence of a human ( and, with luck, ignore the dog!) and turn the systems on, and when the humans leave it will turn them off again.

The sensors will work throught the central home computer, and they will do much more than just turn the fires and lights on and off. They will detect faulty electrical appliances, plugs or switches, isolate (切断) them so that they cannot harm anyone, and then warn you that they need repair. They will detect fire and if you are out of the house, the computer will call the fire brigade. It will also call the police should the sensors detect an intruder (不速之客). This will not be too difficult because the locks on the outside doors will be electronic. You will open them using your personal card-the one you use for shopping-maybe using a number known only to you.

It will be impossible to lose the key, and a housebreaker will have to tamper(拨弄) with the lock or with a window. It is not very difficult to make such tampering send a signal to the computer.

The computer will be more than a fireman-policeman-servant. It will be a entertainer, and most of your entertainment will come right into your home. It does now, of course, but by 2040 ― entertainment‖ will mean much more. For one thing, you will be able to take part actively, rather than just watching…

56. The author intends to tell us that ________.

A. in 2040 we will live without the lights and heaters

B. in 2040 we will use much more lights and heaters

C. in 2040 lights and heaters will be on and off automatically

D. in 2040 there will be no switches of lights and heaters

57. Which of the following statement is NOT true?

A. You can be taken for an intruder if you tamper with the lock or with a window.

B. The sensor will detect fire and make an emergency call.

C. Without a computer, the sensor can not do much.

D. The sensor is multi-functional.

58. According to the author, in 2040, new technology __________.

A. will turn everything into sensors

B. will free us from the keys we use today

C. will make the lock out of date

D. will eliminate all crimes

59. Thanks to computers, in 2040 people ________.

A. will have no entertainment outside

B. will replace TV with computers

C. will be controlled by computers

D. will have more fun at home

60. The best title for the passage might be ________.

A. Life at Home in the Year 2040

B. Sensors and Computers

C. The Development of Science and Technology

D. Lights and Heaters in the Year 2040

E

Many questions had to be answered over sixty years ago when officials first began to think about placing a human being in space. One of the most important was how to design the special clothing needed to protect a person from the dangers of the space environment.

A person cannot work in the extremes of space without many different kinds of protection. The cold of space will freeze skin in a short time. The fierce heat of the sun can cause severe burns. The lack of atmosphere can cause gases and fluids in the body to expand and even burst.

And, with no oxygen to breathe, a human being will die in only a few moments. Urtraviolet radiation from the sun is another environmental risk in space. So is damage from small pieces of rock and objects like meteoroids.

A well-known American flyer, Wiley Post, designed one of the first successful devices to protect a pilot at extreme heights in 1933. It appeared to be something a person would wear to stay underwater for long periods of time. A large device that looked like a can surrounded the pilot’s head. A small window in the front permitted him to see.

It could hold oxygen and provide the needed air pressure to protect his body from the lack of pressure at extreme hights. This protective suit was only used a few times, but it permitted Mr. Post to fly as high as 1,500 meters. That was higher than any person had ever flown. Mr. Post did not know it, but he had designed the first real spacesuit.

Astronauts in NASA’s Mercury Program flew the first American space flights in the early 1960s. The clothing was similar to that invented by Wiley Post. And, it presented some of the same problems. The pressure inside the suit provided protection, but made it difficult for the astronaut to move in a natural way.

Mercury astronauts usually wore the suit without air pressure inside. The Mercury spacecraft had the needed atmospheric pressure to keep the astronauts safe.

Today, astronauts wear very different protective clothing. It lets them move, do useful tasks, and stay outside their spacecraft in comfort and safety for several hours.

61. How many dangers of the space environment are mentioned?

A. 5.

B. 4.

C. 6.

D. 8.

62. It can be inferred that Wiley Post’s spacesuit________.

A. was made for a person’s staying underwater

B. didn’t need any air pressure

C. was specially made for astronauts

D. made astronauts difficult to move freely

63. Wiley Post designed the spacesuit ________.

A. by accident

B. on purpose.

C. out of concern

D. out of curiosity

64. Why do astronauts wear suit without air pressure inside now?

A. Because astronauts are used to the environment.

B. Because there is the atmospheric pressure in aircrafts.

C. Because the space craft is a safe device now.

D. Because the spacesuit itself is safe enough.

65. The passage is mainly about ________.

A. the material of spacesuits

B. the influence of spacesuits

C. the evolution of spacesuits

D. the making of spacesuits

第Ⅱ卷(共45分)

第三部分:书面表达(共两节,满分45分)

第一节阅读表达(共5小题,每小题3分,满分15分)

阅读下面的短文,并根据短文后的要求答题(请注意问题后的词数要求)。

Home Alone: Are You Ready?

Did you know that in the US almost half of all kids aged 6 to 13 are home alone for part of the day? The boys in the Home Alone movies certainly had fun, but the whole experience can be freaky(可怕的) sometimes. These days, even a lot of adults are scared to be alone in the house! It’s totally understandable if you or someone you know are __________.

Take Jessi and her brother Joey as an example. For over five years now, they’ve been taking care of themselves until their Mom comes home from work. Jessi says that the worst thing about it is when she or her brother is locked out. Then they have to wait on the porch until the other gets home! Sometimes, both of them get locked out! Fortunately, they each have a cellphone so they can call their mum when that happens.

Your parents think you’re ready, but do you?

At first it sounds cool to be home alone, right? Think of the freedom you’d have around the house! There’s nobody to stop you from playing video games or watching your favourite TV show!

Joey admits that he likes being able to watch TV shows or listen to music he likes. It’s more freedom, he says… but it’s also more responsibility.

So there you are listening to that CD your parents hate. Then what’s that? You hear a noise outside. It sounds like it could be a person on the front doorstep, an there’s been a string of robberies in the area lately. Suddenly, your unsupervised (没人监管) freedom doesn’t feel so safe anymore.

It’s a normal feeling and it doesn’t mean you’re a ―baby‖. There’s always stuff going on in the world to shake our feelings of security. You might feel totally fine about being alone when you’re 10. Then, two years later, something happens that makes you feel different about it. Every person and every home environment is unique.

If you have worries about being home alone, it’s really important to speak out about them, even though it may cost money to get a sitter or your parent has to rearrange his or her schedule.

66. What will Jessi and Joey do if both of them get locked out? (no more than 6 words)

67. Fill in the blank in Paragraph 1 with proper words.( no more than 7 words)

68. What’s the main idea of Paragraph 4? (no more than 8 words)

69. Explain the underlined sentence in Paragraph 6.

70. What does the author want to tell us in the last paragraph? (no more than 12 words)
