Thoughts on the design:

本单元旨在通过介绍联合国及其相关组织,培养学生帮助他人的意识,并了解一些具体可行的做法。在welcome to the unit部分,通过图片的呈现,使学生思考当今世界正在发生的众多问题,并积极思考可以通过哪些国际援助帮助那些处于困难中的人群。在教学设计中,应加强学生的参与感,鼓励他们根据图片表达自己的观点,并积极讨论可行性解决办法。word power旨在帮助学生了解联合国的不同组织与项目,并帮助学生区分各个组织不同的功能,同时使学生熟悉各组织和项目的常用缩写。将welcome to the unit和word power合并为一节课时,是为了给Reading 部分做好背景知识铺垫,顺理成章。

Teaching aims:

After learning Task, the students will be able to:

1.Know more about the current situations of the world, especially the disasters and conflicts;

2.Know different organizations and programmes of the UN as well as their acronyms;

3.Express their opinions on solving problems.

Teaching procedures:

Step 1 Lead in

Ask the students to think about ways to help them out of trouble.

本课时的导入部分主要起到一个情感的连接作用。从“我”入手,使学生能够较快地从解决个人问题联想到其他有困难、需要帮助的人。

Step 2 Raise the topic of the UN and its different organizations and programmes

1.Different organizations connected to the UN

2.More information about UNESCO

Step 3 Discussion

Students will be given two situations and they are expected to work out which organizations people can turn to for help after learning about the different organizations of the UN.

Step 4 Homework

1. Find out the full names of “ WTO”“NATO”, “ ADB”, and “ ITU”.

2. Read the script on Page 128 and answer the questions.
