Running ,as most of you already know, is a sport that all sorts of people love. Running a marathon is also something that many long-distance runners have as a goal . Now if you decided you want to train for a marathon, how do you go about getting yourself into excellent shape for the race of your life?

Most marathon training schedules last around 20 weeks and are designed for runners who can run 4-5 days per week .The secret of a successful training schedule lies in avoiding injury that can happen through pushing yourself too fast or too hard . So,the idea is to increase your mileage gradually from, let’s say, 20 miles per week up to runs of 50 miles per week at some point before the actual marathon. Alternate hard days with easy days: an easy day could be a day off altogether or something else like a three-mile run which, although it might not seem to be really

worth the effort to some of you, actually is a joy to do.

Be careful how you warm up and slow down , because these are the times when injuries could happen . When you set off for a run , take the first mile slowly

and when you break into a sweat, stop and do some streching exercises for a couple of minutes . Always take the last mile slowly too-if you stop suddenly after a hard run, then those of you who might have heart attacks are putting yourself at greater risk at the point . One word of warning: don’t start a training schedule without some guidance from a properly qualified trainer. He or she will be able to tell you what you’re doing right or wrong! Remember that, under normal circumstances , health benefits from regular running are an increased sense of energy and well being , together with fitness.

46. In the second paragraph , the writer says that ____________

Foxes and farmers have never got on well. These small dog –like animals have long been accused of killing farm animals . They are officially classified as harmful and farmers try to keep their numbers down by shooting or poisoning them.

Farmers can do call on the services of their local hunt to control the fox population . Hunting consists of pursuing a fox across the countryside , with a group of specially trained dogs , followed by men and women riding horses. When the dogs eventually catch the fox , they kill it or a hunter shoots it

People who take part in hunting think of it as a sport ; they wear a special uniform of red coats and white trousers , and follow strict codes of behavior. But owning a horse and hunting regularly is expensive , so most hunters are wealthy.

It is estimated that up to 100,000 people watch or take part in fox hunting . But over the last couple of decades the number of people opposed to fox hunting , because they think it is brutal(残酷的), has risen sharply. Nowadays it is rare for a hunt to pass off without some kind of confrontation between hunters and hunt saboteurs(阻拦者). Sometimes these incidents lead to violence , but mostly saboteurs interfere with the hunt by misleading riders and

disturbing the trail of the fox’s smell, which the dogs follow.

Noisy confrontations between hunters and saboteurs have become so common that they are almost

as much a part of hunting as the pursuit of foxes itself. But this year supporters of fox hunting face a much bigger threat to their sport.. A Labour Party Member of the Parliament, Mike Foster,is trying to get Parliament to approve a new law which will make the hunting of wild animals with dogs illegal. If the law is passed, wild animals like foxes will be protected under the ban in Britain.

50. What is special about fox hunting in Britain?

D. prevent large-scale fox hunting

53. Which can replace the underlined word in paragraph 4?

Social changes in Women’s lives

The greatest recent social changes have been in the lives of women. During the twentieth century there has been a remarkable shortening of the proportion(比例)of a women’s life spent in caring for children. A woman marrying at the end of the nineteenth century would probably have been in her middle twenties , and would be likely to have seven or eight children , of whom four or more lived till they were five years old. By the time the youngest was fifteen , the mother would have been in her early fifties and would expect to live a further twenty years, during which custom , opportunity and health made it unusual for her to get paid work. Today women marry younger and have fewer children . Usually a woman’s youngest child will be fifteen when she is forty-five and can be expected to live another thirty-five years and is likely to take paid work until retirement at sixty. Even while she has the care of children , her work is lightened by household appliances(家用电器)and convenient foods.

This important change in women’s life-pattern has only recently begun to have its full effect on women’s economic position. Even a few years ago most girls left school at the first opportunity, and most of them took a full-time job . However, when they married, they usually left work at once and never returned to it . Today the school-leaving age is sixteen , but many

girls stay at school after that age , and though women tend to marry younger, more married women stay at work at least until shortly before their first child is born . Very many more afterwards return to full or part-time work. . Such changes have led to a new relationship in marriage, with the husband and wife accepting a greater sharp share of the duties and satisfactions

of family life , and with both husband and wife sharing more equally in providing the money, and returning home, according to their abilities and interests of each of them.

54. For women at the beginning of the twentieth century the time spent taking care of

children____

A.was shorter than in previous centuries

B.was longer than in previous centuries

C.was considered to be surprisingly long

D.accounted for a great part of their lives

55. When she was over fifty, the late nineteenth century mother___________

A.would be healthy enough to take paid employment

B.was usually expect to die fairly soon

C.would expect to work until she died

D.could rarely find a job even if she wanted one

56. One reason why today’s mother may take a job is that she ___________

A.is younger when her children are old enough to look after themselves

B.does not like her own children

C.need not worry about her children’s food

D.likes to share more equally in money with husband

57. The new life-pattern reflected in the relationship in marriage is the result of _______

A . husband’s finding greater satisfactions of family life

B. wive’s abilities in running the home

C. women’s improved economic position

D.husband and wife fighting for their own interests

Telephone is one of the most useful things in the world when it’s working properly. But as soon as anything goes wrong or you get a massive bill, it’s not such a nice number. Action woman has some helpful tips.

It’s a.m. and the phone is ringing merrily downstairs. You stumble out of bed and of course it’s a wrong number.

Well, there is not much you can do about that, but there are steps you can take if it happens again. For a start , if you keep getting wrong numbers, your phone could be faulty. So you should get the line checked as soon as possible.

On the other hand , putting out early morning calls is some people’s idea of a joke . Most of us would take action if we received an obscence (猥亵的)call, but this sort of early morning joker often gets away scot-free. While you might turn a deaf ear to it the first time,

being bothered like this can be as annoying as getting a heavy breather on the line.

It’s a sad fact that the people most bothered by any kinds of persistent caller are those who have made “news”for some reason-perhaps something as simple as writing a letter or putting an ad in the local paper. Or the phone directory may suggest that they are living on their own in that their name may have a Mrs. or Miss in front of it . That’s why the police advise any woman in this situation to stick instead to initials only.

If the call is obscene in any way, make a note of the time and then phone the police. If your

caller simply likes getting people out of bed, you could still ask the police for advice

once you have had the line checked, of course . Or get the Post Office to monitor your calls, but you’ll probably have to pay £5 a quarter plus V AT(大不列颠的一种税)(unless you have a legal case and the police have asked for it ).This means the local operator would ask all callers who they were , giving you the choice of refusing or accepting the call. or, free of charge ,you can simply go ex-directory. And arrange for your number to be listed in special records used only by directory-enquiry operators and given to callers on request. In other words , your friends can still get hold of your number but it does n’t appear in the phone book.

58. Which is TURE according to the passage?

A.Make a note of the time when you get a wrong number.

B.Many people enjoy waking people up in the morning.

C.Have your line checked if you keep getting wrong numbers .

D.All nice numbers seem to get more disturbed.

59. Which way does the writer think is the best to keep away from wrong number calls ?

A.To have the line checked.

B.To have the telephone installed.

C.To monitor your calls by the Post Office.

D.To go ex-directory.

60. What can we infer from the text?

A.It is common to receive wrong number calls in Britain.

B.People living alone are more likely to receive wrong number calls

C.Early morning jokes are usually not punished.

D.It is expensive to have a phone installed.

61. What might be the best title for this passage?

A.Step to Keep Off Wrong Number

B.How to Cope With Wrong Numbers

C.Protect Your Phone Number

D.How to Lower Your Phone Bill

作文

Dear Mr. Brown,

I’m writing to tell you about the discussion we’ve had about whether music should be played during the break. Opinions are divided on the question

Most of us agree that music should be played. As we know, music can produce a lively and happy atmosphere. Besides, music provides us with relaxation after hard study, which reduces the tiredness. Listening to music also makes us feel happy.

On the other hand, some students have the opposite view. They don't think they can get the expected results by listening to music, as the break between classes is short. What's needed during the break is peace instead of the noise produced by the music.

Yours truly,

Li Hua

But he became inspired when he tho ught about helping ordinary people exposed to cholera. This was the deadly dise ase of its day. Neither its cause nor its cure was understood. So many thousand s of terrified people died every time there was an outbreak. John Snow wanted t o face the challenge and solve this problem. He knew that cholera would never b e controlled until its cause was found. He became interested in two theories that possibly explained how cholera ki lled people. The first suggested that cholera multiplied in the air. A cloud of dangerous gas floated around until it found its victims. The second suggested that people absorbed this disease into their bodies with their meals. From the stomach the disease quickly attacked the body and soon the affected person die d. John Snow suspected that the second theory was correct but he needed eviden ce. So when another outbreak hit London in 1854, he was ready to begin his enqu iry. As the disease spread quickly through poor neighbourhoods, he began to gat her information. In two particular streets, the cholera outbreak was so severe that more than 500 people died in ten days. He was determined to find out why. First he marked on a map the exact places where all the dead people had liv ed. This gave him a valuable clue about the cause of the disease. Many of the d eaths were near the water pump in Broad Street (especially numbers 16, 37, 38 a nd 40). He also noticed that some houses (such as 20 and 21 Broad Street and 8 and 9 Cambridge Street) had had no deaths. He had not foreseen this, so he made further investigations. He discovered that these people worked in the pub at 7 Cambridge Street. They had been given free beer and so had not drunk the water from the pump. It seemed that the water was to blame. Next, John Snow looked into the source of the water for these two streets. He found that it came from the river polluted by the dirty water from London. H e immediately told the astonished people in Broad Street to remove the handle f rom the pump so that it could not be used. Soon afterwards the disease slowed d own. He had shown that cholera was spread by germs and not in a cloud of gas. In another part of London, he found supporting evidence from two other deat hs that were linked to the Broad Street outbreak. A woman, who had moved away f rom Broad Street, liked the water from the pump so much that she had it deliver ed to her house every day. Both she and her daughter died of cholera after drin king the water. With this extra evidence John Snow was able to announce with ce rtainty that polluted water carried the virus.

There is no doubt that ...(毫无疑问)结构。 的用法,易考点为该短语位于句首作状语和作后置定语两点,考生应能掌握be absorbed by(为某事物所吸引);还应联系be engaged in, be devoted to, be involved in和be lost in等常见重点近义短语。 4. apart from apart from是常见介词短语,意为“除……之外”,考生应熟练掌握近义的词和短语:except, besides, in addition (to), other than, except for, except that, except when等。 be available to意为“可利用的”,be available for意为“使……可以享受某物;使……买得起某物”, 要了解二者的区别。 预测2010年高考命题会以考查词义或者形容词短语作后置定语为命题方向。 6. consist of consist of是近几年高考高频考查短语。 如be made up of, be composed of, constitute, be formed of 等。 break down,break up, break off, break away, break in等,都要求考生熟知它们的常见义项,因为 命题时可能会对该短语直接考查,也可在短文中考查对其意义的理解。 _____ vt.&vi. _____ vt.& n. 治愈;痊愈→______adj. _____ vt. 吸收;吸引;使专心→______adj. _____ adj. 严重的;严厉的;剧烈的 characteristic 2. conclude;conclusion 3. defeat 4. attend;attendance 5. expose;exposure 6. cure;curable 7. control 8. absorb;absorbed 9. severe 10. _____ vt. 宣布;通告→______n. _____ vt.&vi. 捐献;贡献;捐助→______n.
