Crime
Crime is a universal social headache all over the world nowadays. Especially in big cities, this problem appears to be extremely serious. Most city dwellers are lacking in the sense of security, because they can never tell whether the stranger at the door is a real peddler or a would be robber. Wealthy parents would never allow their kids to go out alone. Pickpockets, when engaged in their business, even ignore the eyes around them.
This seemingly uncontrollable situation is, to a great extent, the result of general public’s attitudes towards crime. Many people,when seeing a criminal behavior going on before them, either turn their eyes away, or just stand by, watching. These reactions are induced entirely by the fear that their interference might lead to a threat to their life.
From my point of view, if the present tendency continues, before long the whole society will be in a chaotic order.To improve the social security, I think more policemen are needed and more severe punishment should be imposed on criminals.

On Military Training
Today in China military training has found its way into college life. Like soldiers, all undergraduates at universities and colleges are required to receive certain amount of military training, towards which people hold rather conflicting attitudes.
Some people believe that this kind of training is quite beneficial for the youths. For one thing, the training enables them to develop a sense of discipline. For another, the training acquaints them with the basic skills in the army. However, others strongly oppose this practice, regarding it as a waste of time, because they see no connection between the training and the students future jobs.
In my opinion, military training could serve as a valuable experience. On one hand, it tells those young people living on campus the meaning of hardship so as to inspire them to study harder. On the other hand it offers them at least a taste of another kind of life.

On Studying Abroad

Keeping Pets
The number of people keeping pets has increased dramatically in the past few years in China.There are pet shops, pet foods, pet clinics and all kinds of services concerning the well-being of pets in all the major cities, and even in
some small towns. Every time I take a walk, I see very small lovely dogs being exercised by their owners.
There are quite a number of reasons for people keeping small animals as pets. Besides their companionship, pets bring us a lot of pleasure as well. And there are many people who simply enjoy watching small animals.

On Good Manners

On Opportunities

Environmental Protection
In the modern society, we always hope that people living and working around us are well-bred, good-mannered and well-educated. The Hope Projec

The Importance of Social Practice
Some college students don’t think that social practice is important. Their views are the following. First, they consider their study as the only most important thing. Is Score Important?
Too much emphasis is placed on test score, which is one of he most obvious features of today’s education. On the one hand, it has become the most important criterion for college enrollment. To stress the importance of test score brings many bad effects on students’ study as well as on teachers’ teaching. Firstly, students find themselves concentrating more on strategies to achieve high scores than on developing their overall capabilities. Secondly, teachers tend to give their students high scores as their job is judged mainly by the students’ performance in terms of scores. Thirdly, some of the students who can get high scores in school are much less competent in doing jobs.
Personally, I think that the test score can indicate a student’s academic performance to some extent. But it can not reflect a student’s overall ability. Too much emphasis on test scores actually defeats the academic goals of education.

Should Students Go Abroad for Study at an Early Age?
Every year, tens of thousands of students in their teens go abroad for study and for a bright future. The number of such students is ever growing and has raised a lot of concern. People are divided over the issue whether students should go abroad for study at an early age.
In my opinion, if possible, young students should go abroad for study at their early age. Firstly, it is commonly accepted that the younger you are, the quicker and better you will learn a foreign language. Most of the students staying abroad will have good opportunities to master the foreign language. Secondly, as we know, the competition in our national entrance examination for college is so fierce that a lot of students fail to get a chance to study further. The students who receive an advanced education abroad are more likely to fulfill their potential. Thirdly, on contrary to the popular notion, the life of young students is full of hardship instead of idleness. They learn to live on their own and value what they have while they, spoiled by their parents and grandparents, used to indulge themselves a lot at home.
In conclusion, it is clear that students should go abroad for study at an early age. On the one hand, the students will benefit a lot with improved linguistic, academic and mental abilities. On the other hand, the society will reap the benefit too when those talents return to the homeland.

Heated Match, Fair Play

My First Step in College
