1.1An Introduction to Suzanne Collins and The Hunger Games Suzanne Collins,the author of The Hunger Games Trilogy,is an American writer who begins writing for children’s television in1991,her works including Clarissa Explains It All, The Mystery Files of Shelby Woo,Little Bear and so on.After meeting James Proimos who is working on the Kids’WB show,Collins is inspired to write children’s books herself.Between 2003and2007,she creates a series of five epic fantasy novels,named The Underland Chronicles.This television experience has laid a great influence on her later writings.In2008, The Hunger Games,the first book of a trilogy is published by Scholastic Press.It is followed by Catching Fire in2009,and the last book,Mockingjay in2010.As soon as The Hunger Games trilogy is published,it enjoys great popularity and its readers involve not only children and teenagers but also adults.For more than60weeks,The Hunger Games trilogy has been one of The New York Times Best Sellers.Collins thus becomes the most popular writer with many praises on her writing skills.In2012,Gary Ross who is a famous American director,adapts this novel for the screen.When released,the film draws well with0.7billion dollar at the box office,and the heroine of this film,Jennifer Lawrence,becomes the most bankable star by her excellence acting.By far,the first volume,the second volume and the first part of the third volume are all taken into film.

Suzanne Collins states in an interview that she has drawn inspiration for The Hunger Games trilogy from ancient Greek myths of Theseus and the Minotaur.The myth shows us that Mions,the king of Crete,starts a war to Athens,as a revenge for his son who dies in Athens.As a reconciliation with Mions,Athens have to periodically send fourteen youths (seven boys and seven girls)to Crete,where they are thrown to the Labyrinth and devoured by the monstrous Minotaur.On the third time,Theseus,the prince of Athens,volunteers to be one of them to kill the monster.The actual event of The Hunger Games trilogy is strikingly similar with this story.Panem,the name of the country,also alludes to the ancient culture.The
