Saf-T-Gard? Hydraulic Wirecutting Actuator

MHW 75 Series

for use with 2”, 3", 4”, 5” and 6" nominal gate valves

Description

Cameron’s Hydraulic Wirecutting actuator is used in the master run of the tree on a reverse acting gate valve. The Cameron MHW Hydraulic wirecutting actuator product line has been developed by using the superior features of field proven products and then combining them with innovative technology. Particular attention has been given to safety and ease of maintenance. Hydraulic wirecutting actuators are designed to provide additional well shut in protection during wireline operations. When wireline complications occur and the well shut procedure is recommended, then the hydraulic wirecutting actuator will provide a closing force to shear .108 wireline or 7/32" braided line and safely shut in the well. Design Advantages

Superior Piston Design Array Cameron MHW hydraulic actuators utilize a special

actuator head with a single piston design. The single

piston design minimizes the amount of fluid required to

compress the large power spring. Quick closure time and

small swept volume are the result of this innovative

design. Minimum down time is an additional benefit with

quick and easy access to the Piston “T” seal without

removing the actuator from well site for repair.

Visual Piston Indicator

An external position indicator in the form of a top shaft

allows visual inspection of the valve position. The top

shaft is designed to eliminate the transfer of torque to the

gate and bonnet stem when using a manual hold open

device. The rising stem also provides simple mechanical

and fusible lock open capabilities. A non-rising stem

(NRS) design is available and visual position indication is

provided with two view windows 180 degrees apart on

the housing of the non-rising design.

Spring System

A dual compression spring design produces the

necessary closing force to shear wireline, with no

required valve body pressure assist. The actuator’s

versatile design provides fast, trouble-free

interchangeability of major components and easy field

maintenance. Spring modules are “safety housed” for

trouble-free replacement without the need for special

compression tools.

Failsafe-Close Design

Upon loss of hydraulic pressure, the actuator will close the valve with available spring force without wellbore pressure.

Corrosion Resistant Materials

All Cameron hydraulic actuators are manufactured to NACE MR-01-75, in addition all non-stainless components are coated to maximize corrosion resistance.Cameron has special coatings or treatments available for severe corrosion resistance requirements on springs, housings or any component that is exposed to severe corrosive conditions.

Actuator Housing Not Pressurized

The actuator housing is not a pressure vessel, but is a structural covering only. All pressure containing components are located in top of tools for quick, easy access. This is a safety advantage to workers on platforms. The actuator top head houses all of the pressure containing components.

Large Porting Eases Maintenance

Pressure inlet and relief flow passages are 1/2"N.P.T. These larger ports are durable and help eliminate debris buildup.

Permanent Drift Setting

Stainless steel spacers are used to provide permanent drift adjustment. Removal of the actuator does not affect the adjustment.

Ease of Maintenance

The actuator utilizes seals and backup rings on the piston and rising stem. Seals are readily available worldwide and are easily replaced with common tools.

Drain Plugs Flushing Housing

Two large drain plugs are located at either end of the housing to facilitate cleaning of the actuator spring housing.

Periodic Maintenance Schedule

The following maintenance schedule is recommended for normal operations.

In order to maintain the traceability requirements, all certified replacement parts must be documented and referenced in writing to each individual actuator by its serial number.

Trouble Shooting Chart

The following is a table of operations and maintenance problems which may be encountered with the actuator installed.
