1.Knowledge objectives

Students can grasp the new adjective words of describing person. Meanwhile, they can use those words to communicate with others.

2.Ability objective

Students can express their own ideas, emotions freely, and improve their abilities of cooperation and communication.

3. Affective objectives

Have a good understanding of the difficulties of their teachers and respect their teachers.

III. Teaching Important Points

1. Encourage students to discuss their respectable teachers; exercise their

abilities of listening and speaking.

2. To improve students’ abilities of using new words to describes their new

teacher.

IV. Teaching Difficult Points

How to make students to take part in the teaching activities actively and

willingly and how to encourage students to speak freely are the difficult

points.

V. Teaching Methods

1. Task-based method to make students interested in what they will learn.

2. Fast reading to get the general idea of the passage.

3. Careful reading to get some detailed information.

Step 1 lead-in(导入)

Everyone will feel that everything is new to us when we are in a new school, that’s right? We have to adapt ourselves to the new environment and atmosphere of the new place. Only in that way can we have a comfortable life in new school and learn well. First, I will ask you several questions.

1.How long have you been here? Maybe about two weeks.

2.Do you feel happy for being here? Some of you may feel homesick, it is

normal, but I believe you will overcome it as long as you find the interest in school.

3.How do you think of our school? Is it beautiful?

4.How do you think of our teachers? Are they very excellent and friendly? Or

are they strict with you?

Step 2 Warming-up(热身活动)

Ok, today, we will learn some words and sentences to describe the new teachers. T: We usually use some adjectives to describe persons. E.g. I am ___? Yea, this girl, can you use an adjective to describe me? Either appearance or inside is ok. Beautiful? Thin? Good looking? Confident? Short?

T: Yes, thank you. Here I will give you some pictures of a strange person and you just give me the adjectives that you can think of it, ok?

S: pretty, beautiful, handsome, amusin g…

Make the students try to express themselves freely. Help the students to describe the pictures, using the adjectives they have learnt.

Step 4 Exercise (练习巩固)

I will give you several words to practice those adjective words. Please complete the sentences with these adjectives and I will ask students to answer one by one.

Use the words to describe your classmates

Since it is the first time to meet your new classmates, we are sure to have an idea to them. Now I will ask five students to describe your new friend, but do not forget to use those new words we have mentioned above, it will be good if you can use other adjectives you know. So, this boy, it seems that you are eager to answer this question. ……. OK, well done, thank you, sit down please.

Step 6 Discussion(讨论)

a wrong attitude toward beautiful things.

Step 7 Role-play(对话表演)

Would you like to be a teacher in the future?

If so, what will you do as a teacher?

Being a good teacher is never an easy thing, it is even difficult for a teacher to get all students to like you or respect you. So it is not an easy thing. You must have the qualities that required in teaching field. So what will you do as a teacher?

Step 8.Writing (写作练习)

Teachers are important to us. If today is Teachers’ day, what will you do to thank your teachers? Will you please make a card yourself? Try to draw some pictures and write down the words you want to say.

Step 9、Homework(作业设计)

What is a good teacher? What is a good student? What is the good relationship of teachers and students? Please write a composition and explain your opinions.

设计说明:作业作为课堂教学的延续,它既是教师教学活动的一个重要环节,又是学生学习过程中的一个重要组成部分。通过笔头落实,可以检测每位学生课堂掌握的情况,巩固所学, 同时也使得小组活动不流于形式,真正使每位学生参与交流与合作。

新课程的教学实施中,一再强调,要树立“大课堂”观念,重视与实践相结合。在高中新课程背景下的课堂教学,强调更多的就是要注重与学生的经验和现实生活世界的联系。而只有真正与学生的实际生活世界相联系了,学生才能真正成为课堂的主人,才能在教师“主导”的作用下,发挥“主体”性,不仅有话可说,而且畅谈无阻,才能情不自禁地举手,甚至惟妙惟肖地表演。

从另一个角度上来说,只有考虑到了与学生的实际生活相结合,才真正完成了备课的各个环节“备教材”与“备学生”的相结合,才真正体现了教师“坐到学生中间去思考”,充分考虑学生的能力和水平,才能更好地有利于学生的自我发展与提高。

I was appointed as a volcanologist working for the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory (HVO) twenty years ago My job is collecting information for a database about Mount KiLauea which is one of the most active volcanoes in Hawaii Having collected and evaluated the information I help oyher scientists to predict where lava from the path of the lava can be warned to leave their houses Unfortunately we cannot move their homes out of the way and many houses have been covered with lava or burned to the ground. When boiling rock erupts from a volcano and crashes back to earth, it causes less damage than you might imagine. This is because no one lives near the top of Mount Kilauea, where the rocks fall. The lava that flows slowly like a wave down the mountain causes far more damage because it buries everything in its path under the molten rock. However, the eruption itself is really exciting to watch and I shall never forget my first sight of one. It was in the second week after I arrived in Hawaii. Having worked hard all day, I went to bed early. I was fast asleep when suddenly my bed began shaking and I heard a strange sound, like a railway train passing my window. Having experienced quite a few earthquakes in Hawaii already, I didn't take much notice. I was about to go back to sleep when suddenly my bedroom became as bright as day. I ran out of the house into the back garden where I could see Mount Kilauea in the distance. There had been an eruption from the side of the mountain and red hot lava was fountaining hundreds of metres into the air. It was an absolutely fantastic sight. The day after this eruption I was lucky enough to have a much closer look at it. Two other scientists and I were driven up the mountain and dropped as close as possible to the crater that had been formed duing the eruption. Having earlier collected special clothes from the observatory, we put them on before we went any closer. All three of us looked like spacemen. We had white protective suits that covered our whole body, helmets,big boots and special gloves. It was not easy to walk in these suits, but we slowly made our way to the edge of the crater and looked down into the red, boiling centre. The other two climbed down into the crater to collect some lava for later study, but this being my first experience, I stayed at the top and watched them.
