Hoping to help their kids learn more, many parents choose micro-foreign study tours. But they’re expensive and not as helpful as expected, which leads to parents’ reconsideration about their value.
I have to admit that I’m the supporter of the author’s point of view. Though micro-foreign study tours do have their benefits, I find that their value fails to equal their costs. Moreover, it may bring some harmful effects, too.
I’ve never been on such a tour abroad, but I’ve received some ads about it. From the schedule of the tours, I found only a limited amount of time was to be spent on studying, while much more was devoted to sightseeing or shopping. Therefore, these trips are more a waste of time than a learning experience. In addition to the information I gain from ads, I’ve witnessed many friends of mine taking with them a large sum of money on their study tours. Just as what I had expected, they returned
with bags of souvenirs rather than their deeper understanding of the foreign culture. If the micro-foreign study tours are really like that, I’d rather go on a trip myself which is much cheaper.
My dreaming micro-foreign study tour must be meaningful and truly help with my self-improvement. I shall enjoy my learning experience in a historical foreign school. If possible, I prefer a life with a friendly host family.

Nowadays, micro-foreign study tours are of great popularity for its possible benefits. However, these tours cost too much and have little impact on children’s study in reality, which leads to parents’second thoughts about the value of them.
From my perspective, I consider it a waste of time participating in micro-foreign study tours. Undeniably, the tours may broaden our horizons to some extent, but what we can’t neglect is that most of the time will be spent in sightseeing, playing and shopping rather than studying, so these tours make little difference to the students indeed.
I still well remember that one of my friends once took part in such a trip to the UK. She left China with the hope of improving her oral English and having a better understanding of the British culture. Nevertheless, she returned, exhausted and frustrated, complaining that the real study merely
lasted for 4 days during the 14-day trip, and she was occupied in transforming buses going here and there, which nearly drove her mad. What an unpleasant experience!
If given a chance to have a micro-foreign study tour, I will definitely not join the mini tour. Instead, I prefer to live with the local students, experiencing their real study and tasting their native culture during the tour. I believe a trip like this will truly improve my English and deepen my understanding of their profound culture.

On Micro-foreign Study Tours
Many parents send their children to the expensive micro-foreign study tours, hoping they can benefit a lot from the tours. However, they were disappointed to see the tours are useless, which raises doubts on it.
From my point of view, “micro-foreign study tours” aren’t so useful and beneficial as it sounds. Firstly, as a result of the short time and tight schedule, students can never be exposed to the real culture. Secondly, this kind of activities is more commercial than academic, whose quality can’t be guaranteed. Thirdly, students in groups can’t get out of Chinese environment, which hinders their language-learning.
We don’t need to go far to find examples to exemplify my viewpoint. Andy, the son of one of my father’s friends, spent a fortnight-trip in Britain last summer, costing more than RMB 30000. When he returned, his parents were eager to know what he had experienced. However, they were disappointed when they were told that Andy had spent most of time staying with his Chinese friends because British English was too difficult to understand! What a pity!
As I am opposite to the commercial “micro-foreign study tours”, I am in favor of the summer projects offered by top universities like Harvard, which can be applied for on the Internet. It is required to pass their exams, guaranteeing the quality of students recruited. That’s where the real study lies in!

More and more parents engage their children in micro-foreign study tours with high expectations. However, these tours are not only expensive but useless actually, making them question the value of these study tours.
From my point of view, I can’t agree to the opinions on the micro-foreign study tours mentioned in the passage. For one thing, I think the tours are absolutely useful for us to improve our English learning, especially our oral English. For another, the tours are beneficial to broadening our visions of the exotic world and experiencing the local customs, which is well worth our money.
My own experience serves as a good example. Last summer my mother sent me to a 21-day-trip to the UK. During the first 7 days we traveled across Britain, visiting a lot of famous scenic spots and enjoying the different churches and fantastic food. The next 12 days, we studied in Cambridge, having lessons in English with other foreign classmates. Meanwhile, I lived with the host families after class and I had a world of chances to communicate with them and enjoyed home-made food they cooked for me. After the trip, I had a better understanding of British culture and my English improved a lot.
If there is another chance for me to attend such micro-foreign trip, I want to go to America for more than one month. I want to design the travel route by myself and study at Harvard University. I want to throw
myself to a totally new environment and experience its culture and beauty
