Should Death Penalty Be Abolished?

0800610326 钟兰凤Capital punishment has a long history in China. People believe that if we owe one’s money we must pay back for it, so as one’s life. This kind of idea has deeply carved in many people’s mind for a long time. However, with the development of the social civilization in our modern life, more and more people doubt the necessity to remain the death penalty, even try to abolish it. Thereafter, whether death penalty should be abolished has become one of the most controversial topics. The war between the supporters to abolish it and the objectors breaks out. Here I stand on the side of the latter.

There are three major reasons why I am in the favor of the abolishment. Firstly, capital punishment is the effective way to deter criminals, as the result, to reduce carmines. We are afraid to lose our lives for one person only has one life. The e regret of the lost of your life can’t bring back your life again. Besides, we don’t know what will happen after we die. According above two points, the dread of death and the unknown for the suffering after death can be a ring to warn the criminals to think for twice when they want to kill others. Secondly, to maintain the death penalty is to protect peoples’ rights. The objectors may say that if we deprive one’lives we are not show our respect to the criminals’rights of lives. We have no right to deprive anyone’s life. However, I should say that the

criminals also have no right to deprive other people’s life for there is no absolute right in the world. Can you imagine how a deeply pain that the victim’s family may surfer? And can you imagine a country may place itself to what kind of dangerous place for who gives away state secrets to opponent country? As a result, we can’t disturb the benefit of the majority just for the reason to protect the right of the minority even who do harm to others and who can develop to be a potential danger for the society. Last but not least, concerning the current state of China, we are not mature enough to abolish capital punishment. We can’t deny that after the thirty years’reform and opening we gain a lot of achievements and become gradually internationalized. More new concepts pour into our country including the abolishment of death penalty. However, our country's basic condition is deferent from other counties. China is the country with the 1.3million population. The possibility for people to commit crime is bigger than other countries. And we have to admit that we may catch other countries’ industrial development but fall behind with many countries in the constructive of civilization. Thereafter, most people still have no self-conscious not to offend the law.

In a short, death penalty is a effective guarantee to build up a stable society. However, I hope that our country is become civilized enough someday that there is no need to executive death penalty for everybody has had the self-conscious to obey the law. At this time I will use the

word “harmonious”to describe our country in stead of the just word “stable”.
