Personality academically refers to individual differences in characteristic patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving. According to the relationship with others, it can be classified into three categories: obedient personality, resistant personality and independent personality. With different personalities, people vary from each other, behave and think distinctly. Since personality plays an important role in people’s life, more attention needs to be paid to it. And if we are fully aware of its significance, it will be applied to many fields and have a great impact on the quality of individual development and human life.

Firstly, obedient personality is common in contemporary society. It’s much easier of those people with obedient personality to be interfered with especially when they are making decisions. Hardly can they establish their own views or stick to one certain point. They tend to observe others at first and then imitate their thoughts and behaviors. This personality has both advantages and disadvantages. Social orientation is crucial to this group because the public morality and values determine their minds. Thus, the public rules restrict their behaviors as well as tempt them to make mistakes.

Secondly, resistant personality is the other kind of personality with which people are likely to be influenced by others. But it is opposite to obedient personality. People of this kind are inclined to hold the opposite opinion with others. The same as obedient people, without others’viewpoints, they will be at a loss and cannot form their own point of view. These people sometimes have tense interpersonal relationship with others especially their opinions clash with each other.

Thirdly, independent personality is the most charming and fascinating one. People with independent personality have their own system of values and are rarely affected by the external environment. They make decisions and take actions according to their own internal standard and values. They can fully realize their self-worth and have a strong sense of existence. People of this sort have a mighty heart, and setbacks or frustration can never defeat them.

Thus it’s important for us to pay close attention to all these types of personalities. In most cases, people have complex personality system and each kind of personality does not function unitarily. In order to pursue the quality of individual development and personal life, people should perfect their personality.
