5 Preselection of the nominal diameter
The field of application for spring band clamps is defined as D max. and D min. These two figures result from the respective hose/spigot dimensions concerned with their maximum tolerance deviations being taken into due consideration.
Equation to calculate the D min. and D max.
of a combined hose/spigot:D min =ds +4p (di +p )+0,2 mm min min min min 2
×D max =dw +4p (di +p )-0,2 mm
max max max max 2×whereby:D max.maximum fitting diameter D min.minimum fitting diameter di internal hose diameter ds spigot diameter dw bead diameter
p
hose wall thickness
The nominal diameter of the suitable spring band clamp dn is determined based on the field of application. What is recommended:
dn ≈ D min.do min. ≥ D max.
6 Materials
Cold-rolled strip according to table 6. The spring band clamps must be bainitised to 510 to 580 HV (please see DIN EN 10052 for the term bainitising). Phosphatising is inadmissible as a processing aid to produce cold-rolled steel strip.
Table 6: Material analysis, chemical composition
7 Type
7.1 Workpiece edges
Workpiece edges must be designed according to DIN 6784 and inside edges according to
7.2 Surface protection
Multilayer, chrom (VI)-free coating made out off a anorganic base coat containing zinc and a organic top coat .
A galvanic coating is inadmissible due to hydrogen embrittle.
7.3 Lubricants
Spring band clamps with a nominal diameter ≥ 32 mm must be coated with water-soluble lubricants (emulsion polish).
8 Technical delivery conditions
According to DIN 3021-2
9 Designation
The spring band clamp must be permanently marked on the lateral side (not on the circumference due to the notch effect) with the following:
? nominal diameter dn
? the manufacturer’s or supplier’s name or emblem.
The manufacturer or supplier may, on his own responsibility, indicate the spring band clamp coincides with this standard by marking it with the main standard number “DIN 3021”; however, he may only do so in conjunction with his name or emblem. It is up to the manufacturer or supplier as to how he makes this designation. However, care must be taken to ensure that surface protection is not damaged.
10 Clamp assembly
The spring band clamp may only be assembled with the tool recommended by its manufacturer. Use of the wrong tools will cause damage to the surface and deformation to the spring band clamps, which will cause early failure of the system.
Annex A (for information)
Explanations and design notes
Spring band clamps are non-positive fastening elements made from annealed spring strip steel for sealing hose/spigot connections in numerous fields of application. Due to its high degree of elasticity, the spring band clamps are able to follow changes in diameter in the hose/spigot connection inducted by temperature an ageing.
The sealing is effected by the clamp/hose/spigot system. Therefore spigot and hose must meet minimum requirements (see DIN 3021-3).
To obviate any danger of confusion when applied in adjacent mounting areas the user should select the nominal diameters in appropriate dimensions (e.g. the following graduations are applied to radiator systems in the automotive field: 14, 17, 19, 23, 27, 32, 40, 47 and 55).

3 General testing conditions
New spring band clamps and new hose pieces shall be used for each test. The hose/spigot system must be allocated to the nominal diameter of the spring band clamp. Prior to testing the spring band clamp must be opened to its fully opened diameter and released again.
Special tests are to be arranged between user and manufacturer when required.
Use overpressure gauges featuring vault tolerances of 3 % maximum scale value for pressure testing.
Use force measurement devices featuring fault tolerances of 5 %.
4 Requirements, testing conditions
5 Certification and verification
The manufacturer shall confirm that the stipulations of this standard are maintained by works certificate 2.2 as per DIN EN 10204. The user may demand verification of the stipulations of this standard being maintained by the DIN testing and surveillance sign when required. (This sign is awarded by the German Association for Prod-uct Designation DGWK on application.)
6 Packaging
The manufacturer shall select the type of packaging. The contents of the packaging must be protected against moisture, corrosion, transport and storage damage, dirt and any other detrimental influences by conventional means, so that quality is not reduced under conventional transport conditions.
Each packaging unit may only contain products of one nominal size. The packaging must be marked perma-nently and legibly.

3 System:
3.1 Spring band clamp/hose/spigot
Correct functioning of the spring band clamp/hose/spigot system assured by several characteristics that have been specifically matched to agree with each other:
? clamping forces
for the sealing effect including long-time function,? pull-off forces
to take up dynamic axial loads are to be tested on a case by case basis,? geometrical dimensions for safe assembling.
Minimum requirements are made on the geometry of the hoses and spigots to ensure leak-proofness in the system. To attain these minimum requirements, the dimensions, tolerances, mould offset, parting edge and waviness of the spigot and hose must be co-ordinated with each other.
Selection of the spigot form is dependent on the material and production procedure for the spigot. How the minimum requirements are co-ordinated is described below.3.2 Spigots for houses accordance with table 1Dimensions in millimetres
The spigots need not fall in line with the pictorial representation, only the dimensions specified having to be maintained

The dimensions stipulated in Figures 7 and 8 are to be kept to for functional mounting of the spring band clamps.
The length of the connected hose can be limited visibly by marking the spigot, applying a coloured ring or mechanically with a hose stop.
