第二节

Text 6

W: Good evening, sir. I’m Assistant Manager. I’m afraid we’ve had a complaint about the noise from your neighbour who’s trying to get some sleep.

M: Oh, I see.

W: Could you please ask your friends to be a little quieter so that our guests can get a good night’s sleep?

M: Oh, I’m sorry. I suppose we were talking rather loudly. We won an important prize. We were having a bit of celebration.

W: I’m pleased to hear it. Shall I have some coffee brought to you?

M: No, that won’t be necessary. We were just about to park up anyway.

Text 7

M: What a lot of rubbish and waste! I just wonder how people can deal with these things every day.

W: Don’t worry. There are many ways of dealing with them. The other day, I heard that a big rubbish plant is being built near our town.

M: A rubbish plant? To produce rubbish or to deal with rubbish?

W: To deal with rubbish, of curse.

M: How much rubbish can it deal with each day?

W: Maybe 3,000 tons, I’m not sure.

M: Our town will become cleaner after the plant is built.

W: I hope so.

Text 8

In the past man did not have to think about the protection of the environment. Today things are different. The world has become too crowded. We are using up our national resources too quickly, and at the same time we are polluting our environment with dangerous chemicals. If we continue to do so, human life on earth will not survive.

We realize that if rivers are polluted with waste products from factories, we will die. However, in most countries waste products are still put into rivers or into the sea, and there are a few laws to stop this.

We know too that if the pollution of the world is to increase at the present rate, in a few years, there will not be enough food.

What can we do to solve these problems?

If we learn to recycle our natural resources, they will last longer. If people use modern methods of birth control, the world population will not rise so quickly. Finally, if we educate people to think about the problems, we shall have a better and cleaner planet in the future.
