?We don’t have much time
Our nations electric power
infrasture that has served us so wel for so long-also known as “the grid”-is rapidly running up against its
limitations .Our lights may be on,but systemically, the risks associated with relying on an often overtaxed grid grow in size, scale and
complexity every day .From national challenges like power system security to those global in nature such as climate change, our near-term agenda is formidable. Some might even say history-making.
A smart grid is a modernized electrical grid that uses
analogue or digital information and communications technology to gather and act on information, such as information about the behaviours of suppliers and consumers, in an automated fashion to improve the efficiency, reliability, economics,
and sustainability of the production and distribution of electricity.
.
?What we have done?
States such as Texas,
California, N ew Jers ey , Il linois, New York and others are already actively exploring ways to increase the use of tools and technologies toward the realization of a smarter grid.
On Washington’s Olympic Peninsula, a DOE
demonstration project set in motion a sophisticated system that responded to simple instructions set in place by a consumer in his or her preference pro
file. Meanwhile, in the background, energy was managed on the consumer ‘s behalf to save money and reduce the impact on the grid.
?What technologies can help?
Smart meters
Smart meters is part of the
Advanced Metering Infrastructure and provide a communication path
extending from generation plants to electrical outlets (smart socket) and other smart grid-enabled devices.
Integrated communications
Integrated communications will allow for real-time
control, information and data exchange to optimize system reliability, asset utilization, and security.
ZigBee
Due to the mature of ZigBee
technology, the research of wireless sensor technology at home and abroad is becoming more and more deep. Smart power Smart Energy2.0
application has begun to fully support the IP protocol.
Optical fiber com munication
A high speed, stability and long transmission distance and has many advantages such as strong anti-jamming capability, and the key characteristics of wireless is convenient and flexible.
