Plan your 2020 vacation. The following four places are your fantastic destinations. You can enjoy a completely different experience.

Panama

Costa Rica and the Caribbean often enjoy much more popularity than Panama, but visitors should consider the centre American country if they want a “less-crowded paradise”.The travel site states, “Here, horses are still the primary means of transportation and local fishermen serve fresh seafood and fruit from their home kitchens for roughly $ 6 a plate.”

Israel

If you’re looking for a once-in-a-lifetime experience, National Geographic Travel says visitors should head to Jerusalem to celebrate Easter with thousands of pilgrims (朝圣者).If the crowds get too huge, visitors are told to take a boat ride to King Herod’s 2,000-year-old Masada fortress(要塞) or set off on a peaceful morning boat ride across the sea of Galilee.

Svalbard

If you’re a fan of winter activities, but are in need of some sun, then perhaps a trip to Svalbard is a good choice.National Geographic Travel notes, “The Norwegian archipelago of Svalbard is located about 620 miles south of the North Pole.In late spring, the sun never falls below the horizon—meaning you can take in all the Vitamin D you desire.”Popular activities in the area include hiking and wildlife spotting. Namibia

During spring, Namibia is regarded as the perfect destination with reduced travel costs on cooler evenings. In late May, National Geographic Travel says that the watering holes start to dry up again, which attracts giraffes and black rhino from their hiding spots. If you’re fond of adventurous exploration, head to the Namibia Desert for a spot of sand boarding.

The mind of an elephant should not be underestimated. They are intelligent animals born with both excellent memory and artistic talent.Elephants eat about 495 pounds of vegetarian food a day. They spend about 16 hours a day eating, but must walk about 4 miles a day in search of food. The average(通常的) elephant lives about 70 years, and its sharp memory allows it to remember places where it has found food as long as 30 years earlier, even as a baby.

In an elephant’s travels,it comes across other elephants also looking for food. Some elephants are friendly, and some are not so nice.Elephants remember every elephant they have ever met. They can even recognize an elephant they perhaps haven’t seen for 30 years. They immediately remember whether this elephant is an enemy or a friend. When elephants are not searching for food, they sometimes produce art in the sand with their trunks(象鼻).They seem to enjoy just relaxing and painting in the sand. One day,an ele phant zoo-keeper noticed this and gave an elephant a paint brush filled with red paint to see if the elephant would paint on a canvas(画布).Sure enough,it did,and since then elephants in most zoos have been given paint brushes, paints, and canvases. The resulting abstract(抽象的)art has been sold for high prices around the world. The money goes to support feeding the elephants in the zoos. Most felt that the elephants were only capable of painting abstracts. However, they have been trained to paint trees, flowers, and other things in nature. This has enabled us to understand “elephant genius(天才)”even more.

On a day in Arkansas, some fishermen saw a bear cub(幼兽)in a tree.As hours went by, its mother didn’t return. So they called wildlife biologist Eastridge.

The bear cub was sick and hungry, weighing only 5 pounds and with his eyes not completely open.Eastridge called Lisa Stewart, who works at Appalachian Bear Rescue in Tennessee.Stewart always makes room for a new cub.

She named the bear Miracle because she thought it was a miracle that he had survived! As soon as she could, she stopped having contact with the cub so he would not become too used to humans. When the cub arrived, Stewart cleaned his eyes and put him in a house alone.Since Miracle was already 5 months old,Stewart gave him bowls of food and another bowl of a special formula(配方奶粉), similar to a bear mother’s milk.Sometimes, Miracle would reach his head out of his house and take some formula or food. But he wasn’t eating too much.

Miracle was too weak to be with other bears. So Stewart gave him a toy bear named Buddy. He took it into his house and covered it with straw. He fed Buddy, too.Stewart often found the toy covered in formula and berries and its ears full of apple chunks. Now that Miracle had Buddy, he came out of his house more often and wanted to eat.

After two months, Stewart introduced Miracle to other bears so they could learn from one another. She avoided any direct contact with Miracle and the other bears.Stewart

wanted to make sure they stayed afraid of humans so they could go back into the wild again. She always hid behind a fence and threw food over the top secretly. The bears hunted for this food as they would soon do in the wild.

Five months later, Rick Eastridge returned to pick up a healthy 90-pound Miracle and another bear from Arkansas named Rocky.Eastridge loaded the bears into boxes on his truck and transported them back to the wild.As soon as the bear boxes were opened, the two cubs ran for the woods─where they belonged.

29.Why did Stewart always give food to Miracle in secret?

A.Because he could learn how to find food in the wild.

B.Because he was too weak to be frightened by humans.

C.Because a good relationship could be developed.

D.Because she didn’t want to disturb his peaceful life.

由She always hid behind...in the wild.

30.What is the best title for this passage?

A.An Unusual Bear

B.The Growth of Miracle

C.Rescuing Miracle

D.Contacting Miracle

the population is very small.Luckily, a plan is being carried out by the government to increase the number of wild tigers. So, don’t buy any fur or other tiger products!

Most people around the world are right-handed.This fact also seems to have held true throughout history. In 1977,scientists studied works of art made at various times in history. Most of the people shown in these works of art are right-handed,so scientists guessed that right-handedness has always been common. But what do Leonardo da Vinci,Marie Curie, and Albert Einstein have in common? They were all left-handed,along with other famous people including Brad Pitt,Prince William, and Barack Obama. In fact,an estimated 13 percent of the world’s population may be left-handed. Many researcher s claim to have found relationships between left-handedness and various physical and mental characteristics, such as blond hair, blue eyes, and sleep difficulties.Other studies have found a higher-than-normal level of left-handed people in certain occupations(职业),including professional baseball players, architects,as well as prisoners. However, some of these connections are very weak, and others have not been proven.

What makes a person become right-handed rather than left-handed?One simple idea

suggests that peop le normally get right-handedness from their parents.Studies have found that two right-handed parents have only a 9.5-percent chance of having a left-handed child, while two left-handed parents have a 26-percent chance of having a left-handed child.Another common theory is that left-handed people suffer mild brain damage during birth, which makes them left-handed.

Whatever the reasons behind it,people’s attitudes toward left-handedness have changed a lot over the years.Statistics show that although 13 percent of young people are left-handed,only six percent of the elderly are left-handed.Left-handed children used to be punished until they began using their right hand like other children, but today people who are left-handed are no longer looked down on nor are they considered abnormal. For most people today, either case is perfectly acceptable. There are even a number of shops now selling products for left-handed people, such as left-handed can openers, guitars, and even a left-handed camera.【文章大意】本文是一篇说明文,主要介绍了“左撇子(left-handed)”这一现象、左撇子形成的原因以及人们对“左撇子”态度的变化。

这是讲述一个人,或者“I am a computer”。 此处文章的中心为the development of computers。

Unit 1 Living well-Reading MARTY’S STORY Hi, my name is Marry Fielding and I guess you could say that I am "one in a million". In other words, there are not many people like me. You see, I have a muscle disease which makes me very weak, so I can't run or climb stairs as quickly as other people. In addition, sometimes I am very clumsy and drop things or bump into furniture. Unfortunately, the doctors don't know how to make me better, but I am very outgoing and have learned to adapt to my disability. My motto is: live One day at a time. Until I was ten years old I was the same as everyone else. I used to climb trees, swim and play football. In fact, I used to dream about playing professional football and possibly representing my country in the World Cup. Then I started to get weaker and weaker, until I could only enjoy football from a bench at the stadium. In the end I went into hospital for medical tests. I stayed there for nearly three months. I think I had at least a billion tests, including one in which they cut out a piece of muscle from my leg and looked at it under a microscope. Even after all that, no one could give my disease a name and it is difficult to know what the future holds. One problem is that I don't look any different from other people. So sometimes some children in my primary school would laugh, when I got out of breath after running a short way or had to stop and rest halfway up the stairs. Sometimes, too, I was too weak to go to school so my education suffered. Every time I returned after an absence, I felt stupid because I was behind the others. My life is a lot easier at high school because my fellow students have accepted me. The few who cannot see the real person inside my body do not make me annoyed, and I just ignore them. All in all I have a good life. I am happy to have found many things I can do, like writing and computer programming. My ambition is to work for a firm that develops computer software when I grow up. Last year invented a computer football game and a big company has decided to buy it from me. I have a very busy life with no time to sit around feeling sorry for myself. As well as going to the movies and football matches with my friends, I spend a lot of time with my pets. I have two rabbits, a parrot, a tank full of fish and a tortoise. To look after my pets properly takes a lot of time but I find it worthwhile. I also have to do a lot of work, especially if I have been away for a while. In many ways my disability has helped me grow stronger psychologically and become more independent. I have to work hard to live a normal life but it has been worth it. If I had a chance to say one thing to healthy children, it would be this: having a disability does not mean your life is not satisfying. So don't feel sorry for the disabled or make fun of them, and don't ignore them either. Just accept them for who they are, and give them encouragement to live as

The player who became konwn as “Air Jordan” changed basketball with his graceful moves and jumps. Jordan’s skills were impressive, but the mental strength that he showed made him unique. In the final seconds of a game, Jordan always seemed to find a way to win. Jordan says that the secret to his success is learning from his failures.“I can accept failure; everyone fails at something. But I can’t accept not trying” Losing games taught him to practise harder and never give up. In life, Jordan has learnt to share his success with others. The Boys and Girls Club which he started in Chicago has been helping young people since 1996. Lang Ping As a player, Lang Ping brought honour and glory to her country. When the Chinese team was preparing for the 2015 World Cup, her determination was tested. The team that Lang Ping had built was falling apart. One of the best players had been injured, and the team captain had to leave because of heart problems. Losing two important players was a big challenge, but Lang Ping did not lose heart. She had faced difficulties before, and she knew that her young players could win if they worked together as a team. Two weeks later, they were world champions! Then in 2016, Lang Ping led her volleyball team to Olympic gold in Brazil. The Internet has brought great benefits to Wuzhen, a small waterside town in Zhejiang Province . For the past few years, Wuzhen has hosted the World Internet Conference (WIC), which makes life in this ancient town much more convenient than it has been. Residents here can surf online as easily as in large modern cities. Plus they can download movies and music at high speeds. The Internet has even changed Wuzhen ’s transport! For short distance, both residents and tourists can use the public bike system. Bikes can be rented by using online apps--no need for paperwork or cash payment. In 2016, the parking system for Wuzhen ’s WIC centre was updated to be fully Internet-based. Wuzhen ’s entering the world of the Internet should inspire other small towns around the world. No matter how small a town is, everyone should be able to join the global network and access the world of the Internet! The world has turned upside down since the invention of the Internet and the introduction of personal computers into nearly every home. The twin inventions of the personal computer and the Internet are considered to be among the two most important events of the last century. Shopping has completely been changed. Rather than going out to stores weekly or even daily, more and more people order things from clothes to toys to foods online and have them delivered directly to their homes. Social communication has been taken over by the Internet. In the past, letters, phone calls, and face-to-face meetings were necessary to build up relationships, but now online communication is often the only social interaction that some people have all day! Games, music, movies and so on are heavily influenced by the Internet. New kinds of crime are happening on the Internet, too, so cyber security has to be constantly updated.
