I. Analysis of the teaching material

1.Status and Function

(1)This is the third period of unit6, Which is about personal traits and how to compare people.Students contact it by comparing the difference between friends .

(2)Students will learn more things about the use of adjectives in Comparative Degree structure to describe or tell the differences of their friends,and find out who`s the best friend. It’s related to the students daily life.Students will be interest in it.

(3)In this period, students may have chances to speak English freely and talk about their own opinions about what are important in a good friend. so creating some real language situations is especially helpful for students’ learning.

2. Analysis of students

The students in this class are from grade 8, they have learned English for more than one year. Most students are interested in it and can speak English good in class. But some of them are shy to speak English before class, because they are afraid of making mistakes. II. Analysis of teaching goals and demands

(1)Knowledge objects

a.Words & phrases:

more than, funnier,both,be popular,schoolwork,laugh,make sb laugh,for,be good at b.Target language:

I think a good friend is popular/makes me laugh/is good at sth.

Holly`s best friend is more+adj than …

Maria and her best friend are both tall.

(2)Ability objects

To learn to use comparatives with -er, –ier, more and both.

To talk about personal traits and compare people.

Develop the students’abilities of listening, reading, speaking and writing.

(3) Moral objects

Enable the Ss to work with others and help each other.

Find out others’advantages and learn from others.

III.Main Teaching Points and Difficult Points

VI. Design of teaching procedures : Step1 Review and warm-up

Show two cartoon pictures, ask the students to make comparative between them.

To discuss with them to find the difference of the two men, and give an example. Then ask them to imitate to create sentences.

Purpose

2.Talk about Dave for lead-in. Ask them to make comparative between Dave and me.

Dave is my best friend.

He is heavier than me.

He is funnier than me.

So he often makes me laugh.

He is good at schoolwork.

Purpose Step2 presentation

1.Show six pictures. Ask them to discuss what is the most important and what can be ignore. And give their reasons.

Purpose

2.Then let them to think about other things which are also important in a good friend. Discuss it with their partners.

Such as my friends always help me when I am in trouble < A friend in need is a friend indeed>. We share secrets. They remember my birthday. funny, likes telling stories, can give me good advice, likes English…etc.

Purpose < Take the topic into real life is good for the students to learn English. I mean `Learn to use`."Task-based" teaching method is used here to develop the students` ability of communication and their ability of cooperation will be well trained.>

Step 3 Listening step by step

1. Pre-listening

Ask the students to look at the names and the first column. Tell them that they will hear an interview talking to Holly and Maria. They are talking about what they like about their best friends.

2. While-listening

⑴Play the recording first time, and ask them to get the general idea.

⑵Play the recording again, ask them to finish the first column. Check the answers.

⑶Let the students look at the rest of the chart. Read the heading at the top of each column, listen the tape recorder the third time to finish the column. Check the answers.

3. After-listening

Talk about Holly and Maria and their best friends using the message from the listening.

Purpose < Listening is the most basic ability in English language. So let students listen carefully is very important. At the same time, listen step by step can make the work easier and more effective. Listen and talk means to input then output. >

Step 6. Project

Each student chooses one friend to compare with him or her, their differences and similarities. And why you think he/she is your good friend.Write it down.

Purpose < To train the students writing ability. Meanwhile to make the student understand the lesson better.>

Step 7. Homework

Make a survey to research the best friends of your family members. To finish the

VIII. About designing principle

1. The activities follows the teaching ways of Task-based, let the students as the chief of the class, make mission as center, to realize and use the target language.

2. The topic should be close to the students daily life. The tasks should be easy and effective.
