The people in the USA and England both speak English of course. But sometimes it does not seem like the same language. In fact, there are some important differences between (1) _________ English and _________ English.

First of all, they sound very different. Often, Americans don’t say each word separately. They say several words together. Americans may sa y “I dunno” instead of “I don’t know.” Or they may say “Whaddya say?” instead of “What did you say?” However, the British are more careful in their speech. They usually say all the words and keep them separate.

(2)Sound is not only the difference between British English and American English. Words sometimes have different meanings too. Some American words are never used in England. The same thing is true of some British words in America. For example, the vocabulary for cars and driving is very different. Americans drive trucks, but in England people drive lorries.

Many expressions are also different in the two countries. In England, if you are going to telephone your friends, you “phone them up”. In America, you “give them a call”. When you are saying goodby e in England you might say “Cheerio!” In America you might say “See you later.”

There’re also some differences in grammar. For example, Americans usually use the helping verb “do” when they ask a question. They say “Do you have a storybook?” But the Britis h often leave out the helping verb. They say “Have you a storybook?”

All these differences can be confusing (易混淆的) if you are learning English. But most

languages are like this. Languages change over time. When people live in separate places, the languages change in different ways. This is what has happened to English. It can also happen to

other languages, such as French. Many people in Canada speak French. (3)但是他们的法语和法国的法语不一样。

1. 在(1)处填上合适的词________________ ________________

2.将(2)处的英语译成汉语:

任务型阅读理解:仔细阅读下面的短文并按要求完成后面的小题。Just as in face-to-face communication, there are some basic rules of behavior(行为) that should be followed on the

Internet. The basic rule is simple: treat others in the same way you would want to be treated.

①Imagine how you’d feel if you were in the other person’s shoes.

For anything you’re about to send: ask yourself, “ Would I say that to the person’s face?” If the answer is no, rewrite and reread. If someone in the chat room is rude to you, you needn’t to

fire back. You should either ignore(不理睬) the person, or use your chat software to block their

messages. Remember to respect the beliefs and opinions of others in the chat room.

②Offer advice when asked by newcomers, as they may not be sure what to do or how to communicate. When someone makes a mistake, be kind about it. If you do decide to tell someone about the mistake, point it out politely. At the same time, if you find you are wrong, be sure to

correct yourself and apologize to those that you have offended(冒犯).③询问别人诸如年龄、性别和家庭情况等隐私问题是不礼貌的。Unless you know the person very well, and you are both

comfortable with sharing personal information, or don’t ask such questions.

阅读下面短文,根据短文内容,按照事件发生的先后顺序排序(开始句和结尾句序号已给出)

When Julia Somberg eats her favorite food, she feels bad. She knows that chocolate can have a lot fat and sugar. But Julia says she loves chocolate so much---once she starts eating it, she can’t stop.

Julia isn’t the only one who loves chocolate. It is a favorite food for people all over the world. People prefer chocolate over ice cream, cake, and cookies.

The idea of eating chocolate didn’t begin until the 19th century. Before that, people drank chocolate. The habit began in Central American where the Aztecs drank bowls of chocolate to stay

watchful. When the liquid(液体) chocolate was brought to Spain in the 1500s, people thought it

was medicine because it had a medicine taste. In fact, the people who made chocolate into drinks were doctors.

Then people discovered that mixing chocolate with sugar made a wonderful drink. King Ferdinand of Spain loved this drink so much that he put out an order: anyone who talked about

chocolate outside the court(法庭)would be killed. For about 100 years, chocolate was a secret in Spain.

Finally, people found out about chocolate, and it became a popular drink in Europe. Later, the Swiss mixed milk and chocolate. Today, most Americans prefer milk chocolate, while most Europeans prefer dark chocolate.

New research shows that chocolate is actually g ood for us. “Chocolate has different kinds of vitamins,” says a researcher in France. “It has more than 300 different chemicals. One chemical

works on the part of the brain(大脑) that feels pleasure. People who feel good when they eat

chocolate are actually healthier. Feeling pleasure is important for health and can protect against illness.” “Good chocolate doesn’t have much fat or sugar. You can enjoy it if you eat a little at a time!” says Tara Berish, another chocolate lover.

1._ _____Doctors made chocolate into drinks.

(1)The Aztecs drank chocolate to stay watchful.

2._______Chocolate was a secret in Spain for 100 years.

3._______Liquid chocolate was brought to Spain from central American.

4._______Sugar was mixed with chocolate to make a sweet drink.

__ (7)__Research has shown that chocolate is good for us.

5._______The Swiss put milk into the chocolate mixture.

任务:请阅读这篇短文,根据短文内容完成下面表格中的信息。(每空最多4个词。)In Canada and the United States, people enjoy entertaining(请客) at home. They often invite friends over for a meal,a party or just for coffee and conversation.

Here are the kinds of things people say when they invite someone to their homes:

“Would you like to come over for dinner this Saturday night?” “Hey,we’re having a party on Friday. Can you come?”

To reply to an invitation, either say thank you and accept,or say you’re sorry and give an excuse.“Thanks,I’d love to.What time would you like me to come?” or “Oh,sorry.I’ve tickets for a movie.”

Sometimes, however, people say something like invitations but which are not real invitations. For example:“Please come over for a drink sometime.” “Why not get together for a party sometime?” “Why don’t you come over and see us sometime soon?”

They are really just polite ways of ending their talk. They are not real invitations because they don’t mention a certain time or date. They just show that the person is trying to be friendly. To reply to expressions like these, people just say “Sure, that would be great!” or “OK. Yes,thanks.”So next time when you hear what sounds like an invitation, listen carefully. Is it a real invitation

阅读下列短文,在空格里填入适当的词语。

Ringing! That’s the bell for another new term. How do you feel when you are in a new

school? Do you have feeling of happiness and excitement or feeling of fear? New teachers, classes, classmates and maybe even a new school can all cause students to worry. But there are some things you can do to avoid(避免) back-to-school blues.

Become familiar

Will you go to a new school this year? Then during the summer, visit your new school and find out the answers to the following questions.Your first day won’t be in a mess.

*Where is it?

*How long does it take you to get there?

Keep it in balance

Decide how many activities you’ll take part in, and don’t do too much.Achieving a balance between schoolwork and extra activities will keep your stress level low.

Make a smart start

阅读下列短文,在空格里填入适当的词语。(每空不超过4个单词。)

Nearly every parent says that we never grow up. In fact, we are maybe 16 or 17 years old. In their eyes, we are always little ones and always do wrong things. For example, when I need to stay at home alone, they always worry about me and my life without them.

Most parents always think that they have offered the best things they can to make their children live in a comfortable world. They buy their children pretty clothes, cool shoes, expensive school things, and often a thousand-yuan-cost bike. They think that they have done everything that they can for their dear children. In return, they only want their children to get good results in the examinations.

But why their children still can’t understand them? Does it mean that they still want more

material (物质的) things? No. As a matter of fact, what they want is a true family. What does a true family mean? I think it means a place where we can hide ourselves from the cold world outside. From here, we can get warmth, we can get consolation (安慰), and we can get happiness.

And one important thing is that we should be stronger and more confident in the outside world because we know that we have a family.

So I think that parents should sit down to talk with their children to let them know that they have a true family, so the children and their parents could understand each other more and more.

The Internet has changed our habits, including our habit of sending greeting cards. There are many e-card websites that make it so easy to find the right greeting cards. They have greatly changed the way we send greetings to each other.

Our lives have become so busy that we have limited personal time. These e-card websites have allowed everyone to easily share their feelings and emotions(感情) with the people they love. They contain(包括) plenty of greeting cards that can be used immediately. The users can choose any card they like, from festival greetings to birthday wishes. In fact, e-cards are perfect for any event. That’s why more and m ore people like to send e-cards. If the users are interested in making their own greeting cards on the internet, they can create a card within only a few minutes.

Another benefit(好处) of e-card websites is that they have made it possible for you to send top quality cards to your beloved (心爱的) ones and surprise them with cheerful greetings. They allow you to send your greetings on a specific(特定的) date. So you can plan for the occasion(场合)when you want to send the card. For example, you can send your e-card on a certain day and then visit the person with some flowers the next day. This will surely create a good impression(印象)on the person you love.

We have never forgotten the importance of saying sorry to our beloved ones. But sometimes we fail to do so because, we are not brave enough to face those we hurt. Some e- cards on these websites allow us to express our feelings in a more thoughtful way.

Although some people still would rather buy traditional cards in the shops for the persons they love, especially when they want the cards to last a long time, more and more people are choosing to send greetings on the Internet.

阅读下面短文,根据所给语境,按要求完成下列各题。

The first walk into outer space was taken by a Soviet astronaut. Astronaut Zhai Zhigang became the first Chinese to walk in space on September 27,2008. It showed that it was quite safe for a man to be outside the spaceship for a certain period of time. But to walk in space, astronauts have to meet with many kinds of difficulties and dangers.

The spaceship goes round the earth at an altitude (海拔高度) of about 200 kilometers above

its surface. At such altitudes there is no atmosphere which protects the life on the earth. The conditions of outer space are very harmful to man.

The boiling point of liquids (液体) goes down with pressure. But pressure outside the spaceship is nearly zero. In such conditions the decompression (减压) of the spacesuit may cause

the boiling of the blood and quick death. There is radiation from space and it is armful.

Breathing problems in space can be solved with the help of the spacesuit. Another problem is heat. Man gives off heat in the course (过程) of his activity, and the harder the labor (劳动) is, the greater the amount (总量) of heat is. In space unless special measures are taken, the heat inside the spacesuit would make the conditions difficult.

1. 根据处完成下面的句子。(每空一词)

Zhai Zhigang became the first Chinese astronaut _______ ________ in space on September 27, 2008.

2. 根据短文内容,完成下面的句子。(每空一词)

The altitude is so ________ that there is no atmosphere which protects the life on the earth.

At the same time, the astronauts usually meet with some problems, such as ________

What can kites do for us? You might think they are just for fun, but kites can do a lot more.

Picture taking: In the 1880s, when there were no airplanes, people used kites to take photos from the air. Those kites carried cameras. People on the ground lit the fuse(导火索)that was tied to the kite. That released the shutter(打开快门). Once people used them in war. In this way, they got to know more about their enemies.

Science studies: In the early 1900s, scientists from the United States put science instruments into kites. They used them to learn about the weather.

Life saving: Once some lifeboats on ships from the United States had kites on them. They could send radio messages from the kites. This made it much easier to find people lost at sea.

Fishing: In Asia, people have been using kites for fishing for hundreds of years. Fishing with a kite is far better than you might think. Using a kite, you can place the hook(鱼钩)further away. You can also put it into the water slowly so it will not scare(惊吓)the fish.
