Niagara Falls, in New York State, is a popular tourist place. Every minute 500,000 tons of water flow (流动) over a cliff (悬崖) into the river below. This is very beautiful.

The Falls were discovered in 1768. Before that they had never stopped flowing. However, this happened on March 29,1848. People could not believe it! They were so surprised that they all ran to the Falls. To their surprise, there was only the great cliff with no water going over it. Some people began to pray. Some people walked on the dry river bottom below.

Luckily, it took almost 30 hours for the water to start flowing again. Why did the water stop? High winds and heavy icebergs blocked off (阻挡) the water that comes from Lake Erie. When the wind changed and the water from Lake Erie flowed again, people could see the beautiful Falls once more.

When Harley-Davidson won their first

motorcycle race in 1905, their fastest speed (速度) was around 45 miles an hour. Motorcycle racing is

different today. Today, the fastest motorcycle can go 180 miles per hour. This is as fast as most race cars!

Motorcycle racing is popular, and it is getting more popular every year.

There are many kinds of motorcycle racing, but street racing is the most popular. In street racing, motorcycle riders race on a special track. They go very fast. There are three kinds of street racing: Super Sport, Sport Bike, and Grand Prix. Each kind of racing uses a different motorcycle. The biggest difference in the motorcycles is engine size.

Because motorcycles go fast, motorcycle racing can be dangerous. Motorcycle racers must wear special clothes. Their pants and shirts are very thick and strong. When racers fall off their bikes, the special pants and shirts keep them safe. Of course, racers also wear helmets. Even with special clothes and helmets, motorcycle racing is dangerous. A motorcycle racer must be very brave.
