Here are some UK camping holidays with activities on site.

Pembrey Country Park, Carmarthenshire

There is unlikely to be snow in South Wales, but that won't stop visitors racing down this site's 130-metre dry ski slope and the longest toboggan(平底雪橇) run in the country. It also has horse riding and crazy golf on the snow. If that isn't enough, there is an eight-mile sandy beach and 550 acres of woodland. Tents only.

●Camping £15pp,March 10—October 31

Cotswold Farm Park, Gloucestershire

Campers on this popular site can buy a farm pass (£10.50) for use throughout their stay. Activities vary seasonally, but may include petting chicks and rabbits, bottle-feeding lambs, milking and feeding cows and tractor rides. The shop sells the farm's own Gloucestershire Old Spot sausages, organic milk and home-made bread. There are tents and motor homes.

●Camping £12pp, March 10—October 31

Swallowtails, Norfolk

Creative campers should camp at Holt Hall. Kids can create land art, make wood creatures or write countryside-inspired poetry. Adults can choose from art workshops or foodie days. Families can go on a walk in the woodland. The site is a few miles from the coast and a lake with pond—dipping platforms. Tents are available.

●Camping £11pp, activity day £12pp, April—October

Barefoot Campsites, Oxfordshire

Campers can start the day with a wild swim at three small riverside sites. Those who don't fancy a dip can hire boats, and fishing permits are available. The sites offer back-to-basics camping, with no electricity and just gas-fired showers. Campfires and barbecues are encouraged. Visitors can take their own tents or book

a bell tent.

I was in a local store recently when I saw something that opened a window into my soul and let in a little more light. I had just picked up some shampoo and was headed to the pet supplies to get some more dog food for my friends covered with fur. I decided to take a shortcut through one of the toy aisles(通道). Blocking my way, however, was a young father and his four-year-old daughter. The little girl was pleading(恳求) with her Dad to buy her a new doll. The Dad was being gentle but firm telling her they couldn't afford it right now. Finally, the daughter burst into tears and said angrily, “I hate you!”

I thought that the father would get mad at her for this outburst. I know that I probably would have when I was his age. Instead he just smiled down at her, put his hand on her head, and said, “That's all right. You'll love me later”. I stood there in amazement as he took her hand and they walked off. Then it dawned_on me that I myself had been in this situation many times over the years but not as a father.

Many times over the years I have cried and thrown an outburst when I didn't

get what I wanted. Many times I grew angry at God when I felt my prayers weren't being answered. Through them all, though, our Heavenly Father was patient, loving, and kind with me. He knew that I didn't understand why certain things had to happen the way they did. He knew that my anger was a part of my growing up spiritually in this world. He knew that I would love him later.

25.What was the writer going to buy when he saw a girl and her father?

A.Some shampoo. B.A new doll.

C.Dog food. D.A pet.

26.What was the author likely to do if his child did as the girl above did?

A.Smile only.

B.Become angry.

C.Satisfy his child's desire.

D.Leave his child alone.

27.What does the underlined expression “dawned on” in Paragraph 2 mean?

A.Began to grow light. B.Made use of.

C.Took advantage of. D.Became evident to.

根据第一段中的“...was headed to the pet supplies to get some more dog food for my friends...”

根据第二段中的“I thought that the father would get mad at her for this outburst. I know that I probably would hav e when I was his age”可知,作者很可能是非常生气。

根据下文的“I myself had been in this situation many times over the years but not as a father”可知作者自己已经处于这种情况下许多次了,但是不是作为一名父亲。

Every summer, the Serengeti plains of Africa are a sight worth visiting. Millions of wildebeests, gazelles, zebras and elands begin their 1,800-mile journey northwards on their annual migratory(迁移的) route.

In the month of November, polar bears in their thousands cross the Canadian Arctic, as they head towards the ice sheets of Hudson Bay. The sea ice that forms every winter is key to the bear's managing to exist, for here they hunt for seals.

The Great Bustard, one of the heaviest flying birds, migrates each year across Europe and Asia to its wintering grounds. Unfortunately, these and other migratory animals are under threat from human activity.

We have written several articles on climate change and the effect of rising ocean temperatures. Since 1979, ice sheets in the Arctic have gone down by 30

percent. What does this mean for polar bears? They are forced to stay on land for longer periods of time, which delays their search for food. As a result, bears today are 60 pounds lighter than what they were. Besides, smaller bears also produce weaker babies, and their chances of survival are at risk. In the plains of Africa, migratory animals like gazelles are traveling extraordinary distances for food, just to avoid falling prey(牺牲品) to humans who hunt them.

In an unusual step, experts from 120 countries have agreed to protect 31 migratory mammals, fish and birds. The United Nation's 11th annual Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals(CMS) was held in Quito, Ecuador. For the first time, 900 experts attended the conference, and the enthusiastic support shows the world is united in conservation efforts.

What does getting on a protected list mean? Countries that have signed on to the treaty will be required to pass laws locally and work with other countries that fall within the animal's migratory path. Only one animal did not make the list. The African lion was rejected for lack of information of the countries where it lives.

28.What plays a major part in the polar bear's survival from the passage?

A.The season. B.The sea ice.

C.The seals. D.The Arctic.

29.What can we learn from the passage?

A.120 experts have agreed to protect 21 migratory animals.

B.The Great Bustard is one of the largest flying birds.

C.In the 1970s, ice sheets have gone down by 30 percent.

D.The weight of bears today is lighter than what it was.

30.Why was the African lion not included in the list from the passage?

A.It didn't make the migratory animal list.

B.We don't know which countries it lives in.

C.Experts were not interested in this animal.

D.It was not travelling long distances for food.

31.The writer writes this passage aims to ________.

A.let us know about the animals

B.recommend us to help the migratory animals

C.inform us that some animals are in danger

D.prevent the rare animals from dying out

文中第二段最后一句话提到“The sea ice that forms every winter is key to the bear's managing to exist...”,由此可以得知,the sea ice 在北极熊的幸存中起了关键的作用。

文中第四段第五句话提到了“bears today are 60 pounds lighter than what they were”,由此可知,D项所述正确。

I love the Olympics because there are always so many amazing stories of dedication, perseverance, and sportsmanship. The recent Olympics in Rio de Janeiro were no exception. But one of the best life lessons I learned this year was not an example of any of the noble qualities listed above. This life lesson comes from the tragic tale of Chad le Clos from South Africa.

Chad le Clos is a famous freestyle and butterfly swimmer, having won a world champion and Olympic gold medal. In the 2012 Olympics he even beat Michael Phelps in the 200-meter butterfly, Phelps's favorite race. When Phelps announced he would participate in 2016 Olympic Games, an instant rivalry(竞争) match was created.

When they climbed onto the blocks before the final race, le Clos stared over at Phelps. However, Phelps never seems to notice. Towards the end of the race, Phelps had a small lead coming towards the wall and in the lane next to him, le Clos was swimming with his head turned towards Phelps. Instead of focusing on his own stroke, he was still watching Phelps.

In the end, Phelps won the gold medal and le Clos got...4th place! The world champion didn't even get a medal and I believe that it was because of how much he focused on everything but himself.

In fact, in our life, we tend to spend our time looking at, and comparing ourselves to, the lives of others. The danger is that when we are focusing on others, we don't have time to focus on making ourselves better. We don't improve our life by focusing on others. We improve when we focus on where we are at and what we can do better.

The truth is that those in the habit of comparing themselves to others will never get to a point where they are content. Even if they look around and see that they have more money, a better job, or a bigger house, there will always be somebody who has more. The constant compar ison and fighting to be “the top” only leads to a lifetime of disappointment and bitterness.

32.Which of the following is the best title of the passage?

A.Fight to Be “the Top”!

B.Lessons Learned in Rio!

C.Stop Staring at Phelps!

D.Never Focus on Others!

33.What is the writer's attitude toward Chad le Clos?

A.Regretful. B.Proud.

C.Satisfied. D.Indifferent.

34.What do you learn about Chad le Clos?

A.He won a medal in the 2016 Olympics.

B.He won an Olympic gold medal.

C.He beat Phelps in the 200-meter freestyle.

D.He is the best friend of Michael Phelps.

35.Which of the following proverbs does the writer probably agree with?

A.The early bird catches worms.

B.God helps those who help themselves.

C.Where there is a will, there is a way.

D.Happy are those who are content.

If you think your kids aren't eating enough fruit, you may be right. How can you get your kids to eat more fruit? Telling a child it won't succeed. And, the more you ask your children to eat something, the more they'll push back. Here're five skills you can use to guide them without saying a word.

1.Eat Together.

Eat fruit in front of your kids and they're more likely to want. Krisena Borenstein, a mother of two children aged three and four, has seen this type of role modeling work. __36__ Watching their father eat apples may cause them to want “what Daddy eats”.

2.Keep Trying.

Many children reject(拒绝) new foods because they're afraid of them, not

because they don't like the taste. __37__ You may need to present a new fruit 10 times or more before they'll accept it.

3.Slice Fruit.

__38__ When Borenstein asks her children if they want an apple, they'll often say “No”. But when she cuts it up, they'll eat it.

4.Let Them Pick Their Fruit.

While it's not as exciting as picking fruit off a tree, your children can still take part in the picking process at the market. Take the kids to the farmers' market, where they can sample(抽样检查) fruit and choose the pieces they want to bring home. __39__

5.Mix It Up.

__40__ Experiment with frozen, freeze-dried, canned, fresh and dried fruit, as well as 100 percent juice.

A.Don't give up!

B.The taste is the key.

C.Offer fruit in a variety of forms, and shapes.

D.They might start to show off the fruit after returning home.

E.While her kids loved berries(浆果), they wouldn't try apples or pears.

F.Having them take part makes them more excited about eating it.

G.Your kids may be more likely to want sliced fruit than whole fruit.

36.E根据该空后面的“Watching their father eat apples may cause them to want ‘what Daddy eats’”判断E项恰当。

37.A根据本段主题句“Keep Trying”与后面的“You may need to present a new fruit 10 times or more before they'll accept it”判断,“不要放弃”恰当,故选择A项。

Borenstein asks her children if they want an apple, they'll often say ‘No.’ But when she cuts it up, they'll eat it”判断G项恰当。

同时根据本段主题句“Let Them Pick Their Fruit”判断F项恰当。

40.C根据本段主题句“Mix It Up”与后面的“Experiment with frozen, freeze-dried, canned, fresh and dried fruit, as well as 100 percent juice”判断C项恰当。

50.D这里说的是老太太告诉作者她在做什么,用inform表示“通告;

worry about “担心”。

a couple of “几个”。

65.where/when考查定语从句。

feel like doing sth.

A “I am not an American,” mark twain (1835-1910) once said, “I am the American.” He had good reason to say so. A Nobel winner in literature, US playwright Eugene O’ Neill called him “the father of American literature”. Twain is someone Americans are taught to love. Older relatives, English teachers and the media often praise him. But when you actually take the time to read the adventures of Tom Sawyer, which was first published 140 years ago, you find that his work is more wonderful than you could ever have imagined. The novel describes a young boy named Tom Sawyer growing up in a small town along the Mississippi River. He explores the countryside on a riverboat with his friends, falls in love with girls, starts secret clubs and searches for treasure. Twain’s idea of childhood is magical – a time of imagination, wonder and, of course, adventure. More importantly, through the eyes of Tom Sawyer, Twain cleverly makes fun of US culture. For example, Tom hates going to church, and Twain uses Tom to make fun of religion and its old traditions. “Often, the less there is to justify a traditional custom, the ha rder it is to get rid of it,” he writes in one chapter. Twain’s writing is full of these kinds of critical points about culture and politics. That’s why he is so loved in the US –he wasn’t afraid to state his opinions, and he did so clearly. For instance, Twain didn’t like US wars abroad. In 1900, after the US invaded the Philippines, Twain wrote in a newspaper article: “We do not intend to free, but to subjugate the people of the Philippines… We have gone there to conquer.” He also believed strongly in wo men’s right to vote in elections and gave a famous speech on the subject, called “Votes for Women”, in 1901.

Lorna, 16, rushed across and caught up with her dad, who had just kicked open the front door. They looked upstairs where they saw smoke coming out of the top flat. Lorna followed her father into the flat, where they found a pan on fire in the kitchen and the young mother, Mane Linn, who had been asleep, lost consciousness in the smoke-blackened sitting room. Lorna’s dad threw a wet cloth over the pan and then turned off the stove before starting to help Mane through the smoke down the stairs to safety. Suddenly Mane started crying, “My baby, my baby!” “Where’s the baby?” asked Lorna. “In the bedroom,” Mane shouted back. While John pulled the crying mother from the house, Lorna, without a thought for her own safety, turned back to search for the baby. She found the little girl, 14-month-old Ann lying with her eyes closed. Lorna quickly took the baby, rushed downstairs through the fire and smoke. “It didn’t cross my mind at the time that I was near to dying when I rushed through the smoke,” said Lorna. “I was just thinking of the baby. Even after I came out of the house, I wasn’t frightened.” When help arrived, baby Ann and her mum were taken to hospital for treatment. It was only when Lorna got back into the saf ety of her own house that she realized the danger she had faced. “I started shaking all over and thought of what could have happened to me,” she said. 1.
