Question 1

M: Nancy, look! This photo of my family was taken 10 years ago when we were

barbecuing. See how happy my little sister was! W: I do envy you! I'm always dreaming of having a little brother or sister

to play with me and accompany me to school. Q: What are the two speakers doing? Question 2

W: Kim, your little brother is so naughty! Do you often fight with him? M: You bet! At such times, my mother will always be partial to him. How I

wish he was as quiet as your little sister. Q: What can we infer from the dialog? Question 3

W: I think children watch too much TV nowadays. It's bad for them to become

couch potatoes. M: Well, I don't think that TV is bad for kids. They can acquire a lot of

information from TV. But I do also encourage my child to be active.

Q:Which of following statements is true?

Question 4

W:Adam, I need to talk to you as an adult. Your dad and I are getting a divorce.

M:Oh, I'm really not surprised. You two have never been very happy together.

But still, it's a shock.

Q:What is the probable relationship between the two speakers?

Question 5

M:Four out of ten North American marriages end in divorce. That suggests to me divorce can't be a very painful process.

W:It's like having an arm or a leg removed. You live on, but you can't forget you've lost something.

Q:What does the woman imply?

In a powerful new Mercedes a married couple are driving along a highway at 60 miles per hour, the wife behind the wheel.

Her husband suddenly looks over at her. From the tone of his voice and the expression on his face, it's obvious he's enjoying this moment. He says, "Honey, I've got a surprise for you. I know we've been married for 20 years, but I want a divorce."

The wife says nothing, but slowly increases the speed to 70 mph.

He then says, "I don't want you to try to talk me out of it because I don't love you any more."

Again the wife stays quiet, but speeds up as her rage increases.

"I want the house," he insists, pressing his luck.

The wife speeds up to 80 mph.

He says, "I want the car, too," but she just drives faster and faster.

By now she's up to 90 mph.

"All right," the man says, "I want the bank accounts, and all the credit

cards, too."

The wife slowly starts to veer toward a bridge.

This makes him a bit nervous, so he says, "Isn't there anything you want?" The wife says, "No, I've got everything I need."

"Oh, really," he says, "So what have you got?"

Seconds before they slam into the bridge at a speed of 100 mph, the wife smiles and says, "The airbag."

Some people think single parents can never remarry happily, but I disagree. They have to learn the art of blending. A happy remarriage is possible with preparation, patience and prayer. Here are some tips for you.

Firstly, slow down. Do not rush your children into trying to like someone.

A person you're dating should not even be introduced to your children unless you are sure he or she can get along well with your kids. Your children won't understand the concept of "we're just friends", so they will see every date as a potential replacement for mom or dad.

Secondly, you should seek advice. Talk to your close friends or a psychiatrist. After listening to their advice, you may see some new light and act in a more sensible way.

Thirdly, you should expect difficulties. Understand that your children have the dream of reuniting their original family. They must be sad about their losses. Surprisingly, older children need even more time to overcome their sadness than younger children. Just as it takes time to heal, it also takes time to build and rebuild relationships. Although you'd expect that most readjustments would need to be made by the stepparent, the biological parent has adjustments of his or her own, including issues of authority within the new household as well as communication with the other parent. Finally, proceed with caution. Although it is not impossible to have a happy and satisfying stepfamily, you should know that there will be some difficult days ahead. Don't impose friendship on the kids who are not yet ready to

accept it.

The Silk Road is a traffic route in the ancient times connecting China and Eurasia. This trade route focuses on the trade of silk, hence the name "the Silk Road". As an international trade channel and a bridge of cultural exchanges, the Silk Road effectively improved the economic and cultural exchanges and development between the East and the West, exerting a profound impact on the progress of the world civilization. Nowadays, under the new historical circumstances, our country proposes the strategy of "One Belt, One Road" (namely the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st-century Maritime Silk Road). The strategy of "One Belt, One Road" focuses on cooperation and mutual benefits, emphasizing mutual benefits, win-win, as well as common development of the related countries. Once proposed, the strategy has received positive responses from the related countries along the road. 新视野大学英语3第三版课文翻译 Unit 1 The Way to Success 课文A Never, ever give up! 永不言弃! As a young boy, Britain's great Prime Minister, Sir Winston Churchill, attended a public school called Harrow. He was not a good student, and had he not been from a famous family, he probably would have been removed from the school for deviating from the rules. Thankfully, he did finish at Harrow and his errors there did not preclude him from going on to the university. He eventually had a premier army career whereby he was later elected prime minister. He achieved fame for his wit, wisdom, civic duty, and abundant courage in his refusal to surrender during the miserable dark days of World War II. His amazing determination helped motivate his entire nation and was an inspiration worldwide. Toward the end of his period as prime minister, he was invited to address the patriotic young boys at his old school, Harrow. The headmaster said, "Young gentlemen, the greatest speaker of our time, will be here in a few days to address you, and you should obey whatever sound advice he may give you." The great day arrived. Sir Winston stood up, all five feet, five inches and 107 kilos of him, and gave this short, clear-cut speech: "Young men, never give up. Never give up! Never give up! Never, never, never, never!" Personal history, educational opportunity, individual dilemmas - none of these can inhibit a strong spirit committed to success. No task is too hard. No amount of preparation is too long or too difficult. Take the example of two of the most scholarly scientists of our age, Albert Einstein and Thomas Edison. Both faced immense obstacles and extreme criticism. Both were called "slow to learn" and written off as idiots by their teachers. Thomas Edison ran away from school because his teacher whipped him repeatedly for asking too many questions. Einstein didn't speak fluently until he was almost nine years old and was such a poor student that some thought he was unable to learn. Yet both boys' parents believed in them. They worked intensely each day with their sons, and the boys learned to never bypass the long hours of hard work that they needed to succeed. In the end, both Einstein and Edison overcame their childhood persecution and went on to achieve magnificent discoveries that benefit the entire world today. Consider also the heroic example of Abraham Lincoln, who faced substantial hardships,
