A young man went to the expert on gems (宝石) and said he wanted to become a gemologist (宝石学家).

The expert didn’t want to talk to him because he thought that the young man would not have the patience to learn. The young man asked for a chance. Finally the expert agreed and told the youth: “Be here tomorrow.”

The next morning the expert put a jade stone（玉石）in the man’s hand and told him: “Hold it!” The expert then went about his work: cutting, weighing, and setting gems. The boy felt a bit strange but he said nothing. He just sat quietly and waited.

H1N1, a new kind of flu virus (病毒), is spreading throughout the

world. People who get this flu have a high fever, sore throat and cough.

The flu can be serious, but there are ways to prevent getting it, and also

effective ways of treating (治疗) it.

During the 20th century there has been a great change in the lives of women. Recently, a professor in the United States has written a book called Money and the Meaning of life.
