JOB DESCRIPTION

for the position of

LOGGING GEOLOGIST

Specific operations and requirements may vary from job to job depending on the specific contractial details specified by the Client. Personnel must be responsible for determining their own specific duties by conferring with Operation Managers prior to the job; Client representatives at wellsite at the beginning of the job and/or senior Datalog personnel at wellsite.

1.0 GENERAL REPONSIBILITIES

1.1While at wellsite, and while travelling to and from, you are representing Datalog and should

conduct yourself in a manner befitting this responsibility.

1.2Through conversation with the Client and operating personnel, enquire about upcoming wells and

rig movements. Pass any useful information on to your supervisor or Operations Manager.

1.3Inform your Operations Manager of your availability to travel and work in remote locations.

Always ensure you have the necessary passport, visa and innoculations in order to do this.

1.4When required to do so, ensure you are available to attend company and industry training courses. 1.5Use every opportunity to improve your knowledge of drilling/mudlogging procedures, Datalog

QLOG programs, the QNX operating system, hardware and sensors used at wellsite.

2.0 GENERAL WELLSITE RESPONSIBILITIES

2.1Under your own cognizance and/or under the direction of senior Datalog personnel, install, calibrate,

service and maintain, in the correct manner, all equipment and sensors required to perform the contracted service.

2.2Perform your duties by following the correct procedures as detailed in Datalog manuals, in an

efficient and professional manner, under your own cognizance, and/or under the direction of senior Datalog personnel.

2.3If required to do so by the Client, ensure that all drilled cuttings samples are caught, cleaned and

prepared, labelled and bagged in a manner satisfactory to the Client. If required, assist in core catching, handling and analysis, as per the instructions of the Client.

2.4If required to do so, examine and describe drilled cuttings as per the standard format or as per Client

instructions. Check all appropriate lithologies for indications of oil, record on data sheets and ensure that the mudlog is accurately kept up to date.

2.5Maintain accurate up to date records with all relevant information recorded in a clear and legible

manner. Ensure that the mudlog is kept up to date, including entering geological information when provided by Wellsite Geologists. Follow the procedures laid down in the Datalog manuals.

2.6If Datalog personnel are required to provide continual, 24hr cover, ensure that the logging unit is

occupied and fully operational at all times. Acceptable breaks, of short duration, include sample catching, emergency repairs, lunch, data gathering/reporting etc. Drillers should be informed if extended periods away from the unit, for equipment servicing/repair, are required.

2.7Should you, singularly, be required to provide 24hr cover, determine with the Company

Representative if/when you are permitted to leave the wellsite and ensure that you obtain permission before actually doing so.

2.8Maintain sensor calibration records and update as determined in relevant procedures and ensure that

all sensors and equipment are performing to the specified requirements of the Client.

2.9If required to do so, maintain a Trip Monitor Sheet for each bit trip, both in and out of the hole as

well as during casing runs. Trips must be followed very closely and it is thus good practice to keep

a manual record and cross-check the computer results, by hand, as the operation proceeds.

2.10Confirm reporting procedure with the Wellsite Geologist and Company Representative; immediately

inform the appropriate personnel of any unwarranted changes in pit volume, gas levels and connection gas, flow out (subject to which sensors are required by the contract), or other incidents of drilling or geological significance.

2.11Use all safety equipment supplied, and at all times ensure that safe working procedures are followed.

Use electrical equipment and chemicals in a safe manner and in recognition of relevant Health and Safety Standards as outlined in the Datalog Manual.

2.12Maintain an up to date inventory of spare equipment, consumables and defective or damaged

equipment in the logging unit. Record intermittent faults, in line with the procedure laid down, in the relevant manuals.
