An expensive car speeding highly down the main street of a small town was soon caught up with by a young motorcycle policeman. As he started to make out the ticket, the woman went out of her car standing beside the car and said proudly, “Before you go any further, young man, I think you should know that the mayor of this city is a good friend of mine.” The officer did not say a word, but kept writing. “I am also a friend of chief of police Barens,”continued the woman, getting m uch angrier each moment, Still he kept on writing. “Young man,” she went on saying, “I know Judge Lawson and State Senator (参议员) Patton.” Handing the ticket to the woman, the officer asked pleasantly , “Tell me, do you know Bill Bronson.”

Susan was a shy but clever girl. She had worn glasses for as long as she could remember. And again, for as long as she could remember, some of her classmates had always picked on her. The worst thing was that Lewis call ed her “Four Eyes”. She acted like she didn’t mind ,but in fact Susan couldn’t stand it.

One day, the class went on a school outing to visit some famous caves. The children were walking towards the caves when Lewis put his foot in a hole . While falling, he grabbed (拉,拽) of Susan, who walked next to him, and both of them fell down the hole,out of sight.
