航空英语的构词特点及翻译 近20 年来,世界航空、航天技术的发展异常迅速。我国在航空航天领域也取得了举世瞩目的可喜成绩,实现了我国历史上的首次载人航天飞行,成为继美国、俄罗斯之后第三个自主开发载人航天工程的国家。人们对航空航天的关注程度不断加强,对航空知识的渴望也不断增加。随着航空航天技术的迅猛发展,新技术门类也大量涌现,产生了许多新概念、新名词。 我们经常会遇到这样的词汇:aileron , Gasco ,altimeter , troubleshooting , digital tracker , flaps ,gravity ,hangar ,landing gear 等。它们是什么意思? 又该怎样翻译呢? 而了解航空英语构词,正确翻译航空英语的科技术语和词汇,不仅有助于研究现代航空英语的构词特点和发展趋向,而且有助于改进民航英语的教学与研究。 从应用语言学的角度审视,这也是ESP ( English for Special Purpose) 的重要领域。 词源分析及词汇翻译 科学的进步促进了航空词汇在内的许多崭新的科技英语词汇,接连不断地被创造出来。 从词源学的角度来看,航空英语词汇有两个主要来源:首先是来自英语自身的词汇。因为自工业革命以来,英美两国的科学技术在世界上占有十分重要的地位。1903 年莱特兄弟举行了人类历史上的首次飞行,所以,许多航空词汇首先来自英语。例如:checking station (检查点) ,checkout (测试,检查) ,embark (登机) ,deplane (离机) 。此外还有很多英语词汇具有不同的构词风格,我们随后再一一探讨。 其次是外来词。以前英语中的科技词汇大多来自拉丁语和希腊语,加上英国历史上曾经为诺曼底人所占领,所以也有大量的法语词汇进入英语。到了近代和现代,工业化较早的国家,如德国、法国、日本、意大利以及英美等国的科学技术逐渐走在了世界的前列,所以,先进的科技词汇也会从这些国家的语言中流入英美语言,而后者从其它语言中借用词汇的情况也比较突出,如德语、法语甚至俄语等,例如: EAS(Espace Aerien Superieur) (法语,上层空域) ,DAeC(Ceut sche Aero Club) (德语,德国航空俱乐部) , Scarp (俄语,悬崖—旋风号运载火 箭) ,paravion (法语,航空邮递) 。这些语言对英语所产生的影响进一步增强。随着我国神舟5 号发射的成功,神舟( Shenzhou-5) 也会载入航空英语词库。有的是直接借用这些语言,有的则是间接地被传播到英语中来。它们有的为英语同化吸收,有的同英语相互融合,成为新的词汇。如avi- (avis) 就是拉丁词素,由它引导的航空英语词汇有: aviation (航空) , aviator ( 飞行员) ,avionics (航空电子学) 。再如用希腊词素di- (双, 二) 和-pter (翅, 翼) 构成diptera
