My Grandmother was from a town in Michigan. Nowadays more and more people are trapped in too busy work to relax themselves. We have no time to tell a bed-time story to our children, or enjoy a nice dinner with our family, or take a break to think about how we live the precious life, or even meet friends. All we notice is that the

distinctions that used to guide and steady us— between Sunday and Monday, public and private, here and there—are gone. We have more ways to communicate, but less and less to say. Partly because we're so busy communicating.

Maybe that's why more and more people I know，even if they have no religious commitment, seem to be turning to yoga, or meditation, or tai chi. Some friends of mine try to go on long walks every Sunday, or to "forget” their cellphones at home. A series of tests in recent years has shown that after sp ending time in quiet rural settings, subjects “ exhibit greater attentiveness，stronger memory and generally improved cognition. Their brains become both calmer and sharper, ” More than that, sympathy, as well as deep thought, depends on neural processes th at are “inherently slow, ” the very ones our high-speed lives have little time for.

In my own case, I turn to unusual and often extreme measures to try to keep my good sense and ensure that I have time to do nothing at all. I've not yet used a cellphone and I've never tweeted or entered Facebook. I try not to go online till my day's writing is finished, and I moved from Manhattan to rural Japan.

3D films are fun一of course they are, even the bad ones. But these movies are still in their infancy. The question is whether 3D filmmakers can do better.

I have no doubt they will, but I believe they will achieve cosmetic changes around the edges rather than revolutionary breakthroughs. 3D filmmakers don't realize, or at least have not sufficiently taken to heart, that the medium they're working in is binocular (同时用双目的)film, not merely 3D film. And once one realizes this, it is possible to see that whole fields of potential film experience have been left entirely untapped.

When we say 3D movies, we are referring to stereopisis (立体视觉）. But binocular vision refers to the use of two eyes for vision, whereas stereopsis is just one of the functions binocular vision gives us.

Why do we have such a large binocular vision field in the first place? I have argued in my book，The Vision Revolution，that we have forward-facing eyes in order to see well in cluttered forest habitats. Our large binocular field evolved for seeing past layers of clutter( 一堆杂乱的东西),and integrating two different views of a scene into a single combined view. I call this function of binocu lar vision “X-r ay vision” because it allows us to see the clutter as semi-transparent, something through which to see the scene beyond.

If 3D filmmakers are going to throw binocular images at our big binocular field, then they should be sending us views of the kind that field evolved to process：views within cluttered environments ,whether leafy forests or spider-web-filled rooms. In this light, 3D film ought to put

the viewer into the bodies and eyes of characters in the story，placing him or her into the interactions between the characters and their surroundings. This would allow viewers to truly see out of the eyes of others, to experience other worlds, and yet not have the views of the scenes beyond blocked out, just as in real life. Recently a university in China carried out a survey about “Whether we should help old people get up when they fall down” among their students.

The survey shows that 78.8% of the students offered a positive answer. They think helping others, especially those who are in trouble, is Chinese traditional virtue. 21.2%% of them are unwilling to help those old people who fall down. Some think because they lack medical knowledge, they can’t give those old people help, or that can even cause further injuries. The others are afraid of extra trouble. For example they are afraid they are cheated.
