Errors in software requirements tend to be more costly to correct the later they are detected. Use of automated requirements tools can help detect errors early in the software life-cycle. The paper describes a case study that demonstrated the capabilities of automated requirements tools in detecting errors in the requirements

for a large management information system. Three different tools were applied to the same requirements document: Problem Statement Language/Problem Statement Analyzer (PSL/PSA), Input/Output Requirements Language (IORL), and Software Requirements Engineering Methodology (SREM). In this article, an application domain perspective is applied to software reuse. An application domain is represented by a family of systems that have some features in common and others that differentiate them. A domain model is a problem-oriented architecture that captures the similarities and variations of the family of systems that compose the application domain. Because the application domain requirements capture the composite features of the members of the family, they are categorized

as kernel (required by all family members) or optional (required by some family members). It is the optional features that determine the characteristics of a given target system. The relationship between the domain requirements and the object types

in the domain model are captured by means of feature/object dependencies, which define the object types and prerequisite features needed to support a given feature. Software architectures are reused by selecting those features required in a target system and then tailoring the domain model, subject to the appropriate feature/object dependency constraints, to generate the target system specification.

This paper discusses the application of artificial intelligence (AI) techniques for solving production management problems. Over the past years companies have been forced to alter their overall management strategies radically. Now, speed, flexibility, responsiveness, adaptiveness, and quality have become increasingly important. Companies must have the ability to respond to sudden market changes; and

in order to meet these new requirements, the company has to master new technologies

and new organizational forms. At all levels, organizations have to deal with quick

and high quality decisions, and this creates the need for not only conventional support systems, but also systems that are able to advise the decision makers in performing complex and knowledge-intensive tasks.

In particular, industrial scheduling within the production management (PM) domain

is addressed. In general, industrial scheduling using analytical techniques is an

NP-complete problem. Scheduling problems have been the target of a substantial amount

of research within the operations research (OR) community, yet conventional OR techniques applied to scheduling have had little impact in industry. Analytical results have been achieved only for problems of moderate complexity.

Using AI techniques the inherent complexity of the scheduling problem can be reduced

to a tractable size. We present a methodology for synthesizing detailed production schedules, based on the state-space search paradigm within AI. The paradigm is extended to include heuristic pruning, giving the ability to utilize the company-specific production strategies and knowledge employed in manual planning. Finally, we present a generic, industrial scheduling system, PLATO-PS, using these techniques.

Digital (geometric) product models can be used for maintainability analysis and maintenance planning. It is not feasible to build digital product models for maintenance purposes only, but if a digital product model is available, it may be

used to support many maintenance-related engineering tasks. Examples are: Product life cycle simulation (the influence of product use on product performance), deterioration analysis (the influence of wear on product function), Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA), product model-based monitoring (to relate sensor signals to failure modes), failure diagnosis, disassemblability analysis (for repair and replacement), maintenance ergonomic analysis (to ease the work of maintenance personnel), etc.

At the University of Tokyo, a Virtual Maintenance System has been developed to support the activities mentioned above. The system makes it possible to relate predicted product behaviour and specific signals, which can be detected by sensors and can be used to avoid catastrophic failure. This creates better possibilities for condition-based maintenance and Design for Maintainability. Future CAD systems should support product life cycle issues right from the start of the design process.

One of the most important factors for the success of health information technology (IT) implementation is users’ acceptance and use of that technology. Thailand has implemented the national universal healthcare program and has been restructuring the country's health IT system to support it. However, there is no national data available regarding the acceptance and use of health IT in many healthcare facilities, including community health centers (CHCs). This study employed a modified Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) structural model, to understand factors that influence health IT adoption in community health centers in Thailand and to validate this extant IT adoption model in a developing country health care context.

Methods

An observational research design was employed to study CHCs’ IT adoption and use.

A random sample of 1607 regionally stratified CHC's from a total of 9806 CHCs was selected. Data collection was conducted using a cross-sectional survey by means of self-administered questionnaire with an 82% response rate. The research model was applied using the partial least squares (PLS) path modeling.

Results

The data showed that people who worked in CHCs exhibited a high degree of IT acceptance and use. The research model analyses suggest that IT acceptance is influenced by

performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence and voluntariness. Health IT use is predicted by previous IT experiences, intention to use the system, and facilitating conditions.

Conclusions

Health IT is pervasive and well adopted by CHCs in Thailand. The study results have implications for both health IT developmental efforts in Thailand and health informatics research. This study validated the UTAUT model in the field context of

a developing country's healthcare system and demonstrated that the PLS path modeling works well in a field study and in exploratory research with a complex model.

The probabilistic visual tracking methods using color histograms have been proven

to be robust to target model variations and background illumination changes as shown

by the recent research. However, the required computational cost is high due to intensive image data processing. The embedded solution of such algorithms become challenging due to high computational power demand and algorithm complexity. This paper presents a hardware/software co-design architecture for implementation of the well-known kernel based mean shift tracking algorithm. The design uses color histogram of the target as tracking feature. The target is searched in the consecutive images by maximizing the statistical match of the color distributions. The target localization is based on gradient based iterative search instead of exhaustive search which makes the system capable of achieving frame rate up to hundreds of frames per second while tracking multiple targets. The design, which is fully standalone, is

implemented on a low-cost medium-size field programmable gate array (FPGA) device. The hardware cost of the design is compared with some other tracking systems. The performance of the system in terms of speed is evaluated and compared with the software based implementation. It is expected that the proposed solution will find its utility

in applications like embedded automatic video surveillance systems.

Objectives: Test a computerized system (CHESS: Comprehensive Health Enhancement Support System), which, in this application, provided HIV-positive patients with information, decision support, and connections to experts and other patients. Would patients given in-home access to computers use the system, improve their quality of life, reduce health-risk behaviors, and use medical services more efficiently?

Research Design: Randomized controlled trial: CHESS computers in experimental subjects’ homes in Madison or Milwaukee, Wisconsin, for 3 or 6 months; controls received no intervention. Subjects were compensated for self-report surveys completed before, during, and after CHESS installation.

Subjects: Of 204 HIV-positive patients recruited (90% male, 84% white, average education some college, and 65% experiencing HIV-related symptoms), 90% completed the study.

Measures: Self-reports of quality of life and frequency and duration of use of medical services.

Results: CHESS was used daily with little difference between demographic subgroups. While CHESS was in the home, its users reported quality-of-life improvements: active life, negative emotions, cognitive function, social support, and participation in health care. They also reported spending less time during ambulatory care visits, making more phone calls to providers, and experiencing fewer and shorter hospitalizations.

Conclusions: A computer-based personal health support system can improve a patient’

s quality of life and promote more efficient use of health care.

Abstract

Requirements engineering is generally seen as a success-critical activity in the software development process. Within this context, the paper presents selected aspects of the System Dynamics modelling and simulation of the EasyWinWin requirements negotiation methodology. EasyWinWin approaches requirements definition

as a learning rather than a gathering activity and aims at fostering stakeholder

co-operation and involvement. It is based on the WinWin requirements negotiation model and provides a set of collaborative techniques and tools to enable stakeholder interaction. The major goal behind the modelling and simulation effort is to assess

the issues associated with the social and behavioural aspects of the EasyWinWin process and to explore how these issues affect the overall outcome of the process.

In this paper, we introduce the EasyWinWin process and describe its major activities.

We present the overall System Dynamics-based simulation model of EasyWinWin and provide details and results of the requirements elicitation component of the model. Finally, we will discuss model validation and calibration and summarize conclusions

and insights obtained. An outlook on future work rounds out the paper.

全球股市蹦极跳,各市场走势跌宕起伏,外汇市场同样出现颇多看点,避险需求刺激瑞郎表

现最强,并引发瑞士央行频频出手干预,其他货币则基本维持在大区间内波动。本周投资者

继续关注欧美方面的动向,和经济走向。

美元指数则在乱世中起伏不定,美国评级调降的坏消息令美元指数上周初以73.97低开,

市场风险情绪的冰火淬变令美元于周中连续以大阴大阳的K线形态演绎行情,虽然振幅剧烈,

但缺乏明确方向的行情令美指陷于相比前一周更为狭窄的区间内波动,低见73.82,最高冲

至75.06,最终收于74.56的近期箱体中轴附近水平报收。整体而言,美元指数依然在72.70-76.00的大区间内来回震荡。

瑞士央行副行长Thomas Jordan的表态引发了市场担忧。Jordan暗示,只要对维持物价

稳定有帮助,让瑞士法郎和欧元挂钩的临时措施也在考虑范围之内。

一些分析师认为,在让瑞士法郎与欧元挂钩之前,瑞士央行可能会先尝试其他措施,比如进一步的流动性措施等,因为汇率挂钩可能需要央行加大市场干预力度,以保证汇率在目标区间内波动。

美联储携手各大央行对经济评估悲观

除欧美债务问题引发全球金融市场震荡之外,对经济二次衰退的忧虑也令市场不安情绪在上周集中爆发。

美联储上周二公布了本年度第5次利率决议,一如市场预期般维持利率以及量化宽松政策不变,但首次承诺在2013年中前维持超低利率不变,同时对经济的评估低于上一次。

随后,越来越多的分析人士认为,随着美国经济前景愈发黯淡无光,美联储已然无意在可见的未来收紧货币政策,并正在为QE3的推出埋下伏笔。

美联储周二在声明中称,美国经济复苏较之前委员会预期的显著放慢。与此同时,整体就业市场的表现也不及预期。经济指标暗示就业市场复苏近几个月出现停滞,失业率也有所上扬。家庭支出非住宅类建筑的投资仍旧疲软,房产市场继续承压。

而近期其他各大央行均发表了对经济偏悲观的评论。

英国央行在上周三公布的季度通胀报告中,调低了对GDP和通胀的预期;8月5日,澳洲联储(RBA)公布季度货币政策报告申明,将2011年GDP预期下调至3.25%,此前为4.25%。该行同时上调了今明2年的基础通胀预期至3.25%。

日本央行更以实际行动向市场暗示,经济已大不如前,需额外政策支持。日本央行8月4日宣布维持利率在0-0.1%不变,符合预估。此决策获得委员一致通过,并增加资产购买规模,自10万亿日元提高至15万亿日元。

美国上周五公布的7月份零售额数据表现乐观,但8月份消费者信心指数差于预期,显示美国经济前景依然黯淡。本周各国将公布诸多经济数据,将对全球经济形势和市场信心带来严峻考验。

本周关注

由于市场已基本消化了标普下调美国信用评级的影响,本周焦点将转向欧洲和全球经济形势上。本周澳洲联储和英国央行都将公布8月会议纪要,随着区域债务危机波及法国市场的担忧不断升级,法国总统萨科齐和德国总理默克尔也将于本周举行会议,以商讨应对机制。

风险事件一:澳洲联储8月会议记录

澳洲联储8月2日宣布维持利率在4.75%不变,符合预期。澳洲联储称,全球经济增长放缓,维持当前政策是谨慎之举。

澳大利亚最大的投资银行——麦格理集团(Macquarie Group Ltd.)资深经济学家Brian Redican

2日表示,市场对澳洲联储(RBA)会议声明的反应可能与其升息预期的逆转相关。

Redican表示:“澳洲联储的此次决定更像是推迟作出一项不可避免的措施,而非永久性的维持利率不变。”

澳洲联储8月5日公布季度货币政策报告申明,将2011年GDP预期下调至3.25%,此前为4.25%,但对2012和2013年预期维持3.75%不变。该行同时上调了今明2年的基础通胀预期至3.25%。

澳新银行(ANZBank)表示,全球市场振荡信贷市场恶化,澳洲联储称市场充满严重不确定性,维持目标利率,但如果信贷市场继续恶化,不排除下调利率的可能性。

风险事件二:英国央行8月3-4日会议纪要

英国央行货币政策委员会(MPC)8月4日公布8月利率决议。决议宣布,维持利率在0.50%不变。同时,英国央行决议仍维持量化宽松规模在2,000亿英镑不变。利率和量化宽松规模

均的本次决定符合预期。

英国央行8月10日公布的季度通胀报告显示,两年后英国消费者物价指数(CPI)料在1.8%左右,5月时料1.9%。基于市场利率走势,2011年四季度CPI将在约5%触顶,5月预估为5.0%。

若维持利率不变,通胀将在2013年中期回落至2%下方,5月时预估为2.34%。该央行称,通胀率两年后高于或低于目标位的概率大致均等。

英国央行行长金恩(Mervyn King)同时发表讲话称,通胀仍面临上行风险。

风险事件三:德法首脑会议

法国信用违约掉期(CDS)在过去的六周已经向上翻了两倍至169.8基点,该值为美国的3倍,而此前美国AAA评级被标普(Standard &

Poors)调降。
