Individual Success in Education

As a country's economy grows and develops so too does the demand for education. There is a perception that a high level of education can lead to a successful career, and as a result greater and greater numbers are seeking to be educated at a higher level. Insuch a market being successfulin education is likely to play a role in success throughout people's lives. This essay willlook at the main factors affecting educational success and argue that motivation, intelligence, and teacher attitudes are key.

Motivation plays a key role in the success of many students as performance isdriven by the desire to achieve a goal. However, simply setting a goalis not sufficientin motivating a student and in some cases may in fact lead to demotivation. Crane and Hannibal (20F09, p.303) believe that in order to work well people need to set an exact goal that can be both measured and linked to a particular behavior, for example, a certain approach and method ofworking in order to achieve a realistic goal. Therefore, those that are the most goal-drivenin an academic environment are perhaps the most likely to stand outas successful.

Another factorinfluencing educationalsuccessis the attribute ofintelligence. Educational attainment and life achievement are strongly dependent upon intelligence. According to Delius and Delius (2012, p.693) intelligence is the best predictor ofeducational success and

life-long income. When intelligence and motivation occur together, there is potential for students to achieve the educational success that would lead to greater long-term financial gain. In fact, these two factors could be key causes inestablishing differences in individual rates of success.

A final point that plays a role in educational success is teacher attitude. Numerous studieshave found that lower teacher expectations impact negatively on students. Furthermore, in environments where students perceive the teaching as supportive there is a correlation with positive academic performance (Klem and Connell, 2009, pp.262-73). Thus students who perceivethemselves to be in a supportive academic environment are perhaps more likely to be academicallysuccessful.

In conclusion, perhaps unsurprisingly, one of the key factors in individual academic success is that ofintelligence. However, no single factor is the sole key to academicsuccess; factors such as the educational environment and the motivation of the studentare powerfulin shaping the difference in individual success.

Motivation plays a key role in success. However, we need to set concrete and viable motivations, otherwise there is no point in success.

Intelligence determines the quality of education and life. Research has shown that intelligence plus motivation is more likely to be successful.

What’s more,the better the teacher's attitude is, the more likely the student will be to succeed.And the poorer the teacher's attitude, the less likely the student will be to succeed.

Students' motivation, intelligence, and education environment together determine whether students will succeed.
