The heart sutra
Prajna paramita hrdaya Sutra/The heart sutra of perfect wisdom
心经/般若波罗蜜多心经
Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva
guān zìzài púsà。
观自在菩萨。（译文：观音菩萨）
When practicing the profound prajna paramita
xíng shēn bōrěbōluómìduōshí。
行深般若波罗蜜多时。（译文：深入的修行心经时）
Perceived that the five skandhas are empty
zhào jiàn wǔyùn jiēkōng 。
照见五蕴皆空。（译文：看到五蕴：形相、情欲、意念、行为、心灵，都是空的）
And thereby became free from all suffering
dùyīqiēkǔè。
度一切苦厄。（译文：就将一切苦难置之度外）
O Sariputra
shělìzǐ。
舍利子。（译文：菩萨对学生舍利子说）
Form is none other than emptiness
sèbùyìkōng 。
色不异空。（译文：形相不异乎空间）
Emptiness is none other than form
kōng bùyìsè。
空不异色。（译文：空间不异乎形相）
Form is emptiness
sèjíshìkōng。
色即是空。（译文：所以形相等于空间）
Emptiness is form
kōng jíshìsè。
空即是色。（译文：空间等于形相）
The same is true with perception, conception, volition and consciousness shòu xiǎng xíng shí。
受想行识。（译文：情欲、意念、行为、心灵）
yìfùrúshì。
亦复如是。（译文：都是一样的）
O Sariputra
shělìzǐ。
舍利子。（译文：舍利子呀）
All Dharma are characterized by dependence upon causation shìzhūfǎkōng xiāng 。
是诸法空相。（译文：一切法则都是空的）
They are neither created nor do the perish
bùshēng bùmiè。
不生不灭。（译文：不生不灭）
Neither defiled nor immaculated
bùgòu bùjìng 。
不垢不净。（译文：不垢不净）
Neither increasing nor decreasing
bùzēng bùjiǎn 。
不增不减。（译文：不增不减）
Therefore in emptiness there is no form
shìgùkōng zhōng wúsè。
是故空中无色。（译文：因此空间是没有形相的）
No perception, no conception, no volition, no consciousness
wúshòu xiǎng xíng shí。
无受想行识。（译文：也没有情欲、意念、行为和心灵）
No eye, ear, nose, tongue, body or mind
wúyǎn ěr bíshéshēn yì。
无眼耳鼻舌身意。（译文：没有眼、耳、鼻、舌、身、意等六根）
No form, sound, smell, taste, touch or object of mind
wúsèshēng xiāng wèi chùfǎ。
无色声香味触法。（译文：更没有色、声、香、味、触、法等六尘）
No realm of the eyes, up to no realm of consciousness
wúyǎn jiè。
无眼界。（译文：没有眼睛所能看到的界限）
nǎi zhìwúyìshi jie 。
乃至无意识界。（译文：直到没有心灵所能感受的界限）
No ignorance, nor its extinction
wúwúmíng
无无明。（译文：没有不能了解的）
yìwúwúmíng jìn 。
亦无无明尽。（译文：也没有不能了解的尽头）
Up to no old-age and death, nor their extinction
nǎi zhìwúlǎo sǐ。
乃至无老死。（译文：直到没有老和死）
yìwúlǎo sǐjìn 。
亦无老死尽。（译文：也没有老和死的尽头）
There is no suffering, no cause of suffering, no extinction, no path wúkǔjímièdào
无苦集灭道。（译文：没有痛苦的集合以及修道的幻灭）
No wisdom and also no attainment
wúzhìyìwúdé。
无智亦无得。（译文：不用智慧去强求）
Because there is no object to be obtained
yǐwúsuǒdégù。
以无所得故。（译文：所以得到与否并不重要）
The bodhisattva
pútísàduǒ。
菩提萨埵。（译文：菩萨觉悟之后）
Through practicing prajna paramita
yībōrěbōluómìduōgù。
依般若波罗蜜多故。（译文：依照心经）
Have no obstacles in mind
xīn wúguàài 。
心无挂碍。（译文：心中没有碍）
Having no obstacles, the overcome fear
wúguàài gù。
无挂碍故。（译文：由于没有碍）
wúyǒu kǒng bù。
无有恐怖。（译文：所以不恐怖）
Liberating themselves forever from delusion
yuǎn lídiān dǎo mèng xiǎng 。
远离颠倒梦想。（译文：远离颠倒梦想）
Ultimately realizing Nirvana
jiūjìng nièpán 。
究竟涅槃。（译文：最后达到彼岸）
All buddhas of the past, present and future
sān shìzhūfó。
三世诸佛。（译文：过去、现在和未来的三世诸佛）
Relying on prajna paramita
yībōrěbōluómìduōgù。
依般若波罗蜜多故。（译文：依照心经）
Attain anuttara-samyaksambodhi
déānòu duōluósān miǎo sān pútí。
得阿耨多罗三藐三菩提。（译文：得到无上、正宗、正觉的三种佛果）
Therefore one should know that prajna paramita
gùzhībōrěbōluómìduō。
故知般若波罗蜜多。（译文：所以说心经）
Is the great, supernatural mantra. The great, bright, unsurpassed mantra shìdàshén zhòu 。
是大神咒。（译文：是变幻莫测的咒语）
shìdàmíng zhòu 。
是大明咒。（译文：是神光普照的咒语）
shìwúshàng zhòu 。
是无上咒。（译文：是无上的咒语）
shìwúděng děng zhòu 。
是无等等咒。（译文：是最高的咒语）
The destroyer of all suffering, the truth.
néng chúyīqiēkǔ。
能除一切苦。（译文：能除一切苦）
zhēn shíbùxū。
真实不虚。（译文：不是骗人的）
A mantra of prajna paramita should therefore be proclaimed
gùshuōbōrěbōluómìduōzhòu 。
故说般若波罗蜜多咒。（译文：所以说心经）
This is the mantra:
jíshuōzhòu yuē。
即说咒曰。（译文：其咒语曰）
Gate Gate
jiēdìjiēdì。
揭谛揭谛。（译文：去吧，去吧）
Paragate
bōluójiēdì。
波罗揭谛。（译文：到彼岸去吧）
Parasamagate
bōluósēng jiēdì。
波罗僧揭谛。（译文：大家快去彼岸）
Bodhi svaha!
pútísàpóhē。
菩提萨婆诃。（译文：修成正果）
