A

In the fall of 1985, I was a bright-eyed girl heading off to Howard University, aiming at a legal career and dreaming of sitting on a Supreme Court bench somewhere. Twen ty-one years later I am still a bright-eyed dreamer and one with quite a different tale to tell.

My grandma, an amazing woman, graduated from college at the age of 65.She was the first in our family to reach that goal. But one year after I started college, she developed cancer.I made the choice to withdraw from college to care for her.It meant that school and my personal dream would have to wait.

Then I got married with another dream: building my family with a combination of adopted and biological children. In 1999, we adopted our first son.To lay eyes on him was fantastic—and very emotional.A year later came our second adopted boy. Then followed son No.3.In 2003, I gave birth to another boy.

You can imagine how fully occupied I became, raising four boys under the age of 8!

Our home was a complete zoo—a joyous zoo.Not surprising, I never did make it back to college full-time.But I never gave up on the dream either.I had only one choice: to find a way. That meant taking as few as one class each semester.

The hardest part was feeling guilty about the time I spent away from the boys. They often wanted me to stay home with them. There certainly were times I wanted to quit, but I knew I should set an example for them to follow through the rest of their lives. In 2007, I graduated from the University of North Carolina. It took me over 21 years to get my college degree!

I am not special, just single-minded.It always struck me that when you're looking at a big challenge from the outside it looks huge, but when you're in the midst of it, it just seems normal.Everything you want won't arrive in your life on one day. It's a process.Remember: little steps add up to big dreams.

The world itself is becoming much smaller by using modern traffic and modern communication means. Life today is much easier than it was hundreds of years ago, but it has brought new problems. Air pollution is still the most serious. It’s bad for all living things in the world, but it is not the only one kind of pollution. Water pollution kills our fish and pollutes our drinking water. Noise pollution makes us angry more easily.

traffic. We are sure that if there are fewer people driving, there will be less air pollution.

When you are far away from home for the first time and have a lot to adjust to,you can't do it alone. However independent you are,it is good to have a roommate during your first year.

Living with someone helps ease your loneliness. Sure it may seem appealing to be able to play your music and turn up your TV as loud as you want, but coming home to an

empty room every day can be depressing. If you have a bad day, you may want to talk

to someone.

Friends are great sources of venting (宣泄), but friends can't always be there. Even

worse, they may be self-centered and show no interest in yo ur problem. It's not that

roommates aren't like this, but even just small talk can help you feel better.

Having a roommate teaches you how to get along with people and settle conflict. You

two should set up rules immediately and discuss what to do when there is conflict.

If you two don't like each other, you still study, relax, and sleep in the same room.

You must find a way to get along.

Finally, having a roommate exposes (使接触) you to different ways of living. Your

roommate may come from a different city, and have different living habits. He or she

also has different interests and personalities. You don't have to end up liking the

same things your roommate does,but_______________________. You will be surrounded

by many different people in college and have the chance to try things you never have

before. Why not start learning from your roommate?

Having a roommate gives you the skills and personal background you will need to utilize

(利用) when you are out on your own. Make the most of living with a stranger and besides,

there will be plenty of opportunities for you to have your own room later in your

college years.

11-20: BDDA BABCC

21-40: BCADA CDABC ADABC CDBCB

A篇:

The hardest part was feeling guilty about...

最后一段的最后一句“Remember:little steps add up to big dreams.” Failure is the mother of su ccess.“失败是成功之母。”;Little by little, one goes far.“千里之行,始于足下。”;Every coin has two sides.“凡事都有两面性。”;Well begun, half done.“好的开始是成功的一半。”

故选A项。

You can jump alone or with your classmate,既然是alone或with classmate,我们可以得知跳绳是一人或一人以上玩的游戏。

48. B。 Try ropes of different lengths until you find a right one for your size(试试各种不同长度的绳子,直到你找到适合你的身材的一个 right on),据此显然可推出其中的one指的是“绳子”。

49. B。 If you jump alone, you…,所以玩跳绳以前,必须找到适合自己的绳子。

50. D。 Turning the rope freely and safely needs careful timing,这是与D项完全对应的;另外,文中说的是slowing enough,而不是像A、B项所说的as slowly as possible和as high as possible,故排除A和B。 You must learn when to stop for a rest before you jump again可将C项排除。

Life today is much easier than it was hundreds of years ago(今天的生活比以前容易得多),反过来说,以前的生活一定比今天的艰难,所以答案是C。

53. B。在众多选项中,只有选项B(noise pollution噪音污染)是听得见的。

54. D。 Air pollution is still the most serious. It’s bad for all living thin gs in the world…,可以得知空气污染之所以最为严重,正如选项D(它是危害全世界生物的)所说的那样。

Boris grew annoyed,then depressed,then a little hardened.,因此,四个选项中只有disappointing【失望的),符合语境。

由倒数第二段的“Then he set up his business as a cycle repairer.”

由倒数第二段的“But at long last,he managed to find an empty shop on a new estate where there were plenty of customers but no competition.”

He was the top player selected by the Houston Rockets,

whose new activities place would soon be promoted by Toyota. The Japanese carmaker had just opened a new plant in China, and the company expects that Yao fans would soon become Corolla fans.

China fulfilled its promise; since those unforgettable days of 2002, through the Beijing Olympics and beyond, the country has stayed on its path towards superpower figure看出答案。

第一句“A friend in need is a friend indeed” 强调挚友的重要性。 第二句“Where there is a will, there is a way” 就是我们再熟悉不过的“有志者事竟成”。

Perri Klass and her mother, Sheila Solomon Klass, Mrs.
