I really hadn't meant to yell（吼叫）at them. But that grey afternoon saw it just as my son and

We have to search for our “best self” when with our children. They don't need perfect parents, but they do need parents who are always trying to get better. Most American students go to traditional public schools. There are about 88,000 public schools all over the US. Some students attend about 3000 independent public schools called charter schools.

Charter schools are self-governing. Private companies operate some charter schools. They are similar in some ways to traditional public schools. They receive tax money just as other public schools do. Charter schools must prove to local or state governments that their students are learning. These governments provide the schools with the agreement called a charter that permits them to operate.

Charter schools are different because they do not have to obey most laws governing traditional public schools. Local, state or federal governments cannot tell them what to teach. Each school can choose its own goals and decide the ways it wants to reach them. Class size is usually

smaller than in traditional public schools.

The Bush Administration strongly supports charter schools as a way to re-organize public schools that are failing to educate students. But some education agencies and unions oppose charter schools. One teachers’union has just made public the results of the first national study comparing the progress of students in traditional schools and charter schools.

The American Federation of Teachers criticized the government’s delay in releasing the results of the study, which is called the National Assessment of Educational Progress. Union education experts say the study shows that charter school students performed worse on math and reading tests than students in regular public schools.

Some experts say the study is not a fair look at charter schools because students in those schools have more problems than students in traditional schools. Other education experts say the study results should make charter school officials demand improved student progress.

Scientific researches have given clear evidence that most overweight people trying to lose weight either by cutting calories or exercising will return to their former size．Fewer than 10 percent of the l2 million British people who go on a diet each year succeed in losing significant amounts of weight and most of those who do put it all back on again within a year．The study of 25，000 people provides further evidence of the popularity of yo-yo dieting’where slimmers get into a cycle of losing weight and regaining it．The scientists，from the Medical Research Council’s National Survey of Hea lth and Development，have concluded it is better to avoid getting fat in the first place．They followed 5，362 men and women from their birth in l946 and 20，000 from birth in l958，measuring their weight and blood pressure and assessing their lifestyles．The researchers found both groups began gaining weight in the 1980s and have steadily increased in size ever since．

Dr Rebecca Hardy，the council’s program leader on body size，said：“Once people become, overweight，they continue extremely upwards．They hardly ever go back down．A few lose weight but very few get back to normal. The best policy is to prevent people becoming overweight．For men weight goes up steadily through life。For women it starts slowly and accelerates in the mid-thirties．”

But the study's findings do not mean dieting is pointless，as eating less and taking more exercise can increase fitness and lower blood pressure．In 2009，a quarter of adults and l4 percent

In face of a tough job market, what fresh graduates are dreaming about is to run their own businesses instead．But a recent survey has showed that such ambitions lack the required support and remain just that—dreams．

The Shanghai Municipal Employment Promotion Center poll of 1,276 graduates in several universities and colleges in the city, released last Friday, showed 59.78 percent of respondents considered the possibility of setting up a company or at least a small store．"But they just stop at the 'thinking' stage," it stated．

Respondents put the top reasons for not going it alone down to a shortage of investment and a lack of business opportunity．They also listed lack of business experience and social networks, the need for advanced study and objections from family members as factors that stood in their way．More than 90 percent of the interviewees said they would rather take up a job after graduating and then consider starting their own business two or three years down the road．

Guo Bing, a senior student in Shanghai International Studies University majoring in English, decided he wanted to be his own boss last year．But he is looking for a job first．"If I fail to find a satisfying job, I would like to establish a company in exhibition services," Guo said．

The Shanghai native has some relatives working in a local printing plant．With their help, Guo hopes to produce exhibition brochures at a relatively low price．He is also confident that his English language skills can help him do well in the industry．
