On Saturday morning, together with my grandparents, I searched the internet for the train schedual, the weather in Beidaihe, and some hotel information. After dinner, I packed into the suitcase the things my grandparents need, such as clothes, glasses, an umbrella and a map. The next morning, I went to the station to see them off. Waving goodbye to them on the platform, I felt happy for them and wished them a safe journey.

In the picture, between two closely-located buildings grows a big tree. Unlike most trees, this one bends in the middle, struggling all the way up to get more sunshine. The picture reminds of those who succeed in unfavorable conditions. Faced with difficulties, they never give up but try their best to find a way out. Life can be hard. But if we have the courage and determination, we will finally get the sunshine we want as the tree in the picture does.

Last Monday, we were having our Chinese class when the teacher suddenly slipped and fell. We were all worried about her. One of the boys carried her on the back，with the help of some others, to the clinic immediately. It turned out that her right leg was broken and she had to stay in the hospital. The following day, we went to visit her with flower and fruit. Seeing her lying in bed with leg wrapped in bandages, we felt sorry for her and hoped that she would recover soon. This Thursday she returned to the class on a wheelchair to give us lessons. We were all deeply moved and proud of having such a responsible teacher.

In the picture, there stands a tree full of fruit on one side of the stream. Across the stream, a man is trying to reach out on the edge of the band for the fruit with a net attached to a pole. Not far away there is a bridge that can lead him to the tree for more fruit.

The message conveyed in the picture is clear. In pursuing a dream, we might focus on only one say of making it come true, forgetting that there may be alternatives. As indicated in the picture，if the man is willing to look for other possibilities, he can find a better and more rewarding way to achieve his goal. All he has to do is to turn around, cross the bridge and walk to the tree.

第二组(东城卷)

Last term we went to Miyun to work on the farm. We spent a whole week there.

Upon our arrival, we were divided into groups of four and each group shared one room. All by ourselves, we wiped the windows, swept the floor and made the bed. After getting settled, we went to the fruit yard and got down to work at once. Some of us picked apples and others loaded baskets of apples onto the trucks. While we were there, we also helped with the corn harvest.We cut the corns off and piled them up. Never in my life had I ever seen so many corns lying about in the field. I felt it was great fun. On the last day, we gathered together in the open air to have a party, where we sang songs and danced happily.

This was really an unforgettable experience for us all.

As we can see in the picture, two men are competing against each other in building walls. One man has built up an obviously higher but twisted wall, while the other’s work is completely vertical, strong and solid though lower.

The picture implies a very important rule of doing things---we always need a balance between speed and quality. It isn’t difficult to see examples of how often higher speed is set up as a target. “The faster, the better” has become a motto for us due to the fiercely competitive environment of our society. However our work has no value at all if we ignore the quality of it just like the man building the twisted wall. As students, we are required to do things at high speed. It is definitely helpful to keep in mind that no matter how fast we need to achieve something, quality may never be ignored.

Dear Peter,

How are things going?

Last week ，I took part in the show of “Beautiful Villages around Beijing”in our school. On Sunday morning, my parents and I went to the suburbs to get some information for my poster. On arriving at the destination, we were impressed by the beautiful scenery and people’s living conditions. I took many photos. Then we chatted with a farmer, who told us about the changes these years. They now can get online to learn agricultural science and trade their products. And in spare time they can enjoy various leisure activities, like table tennis and chess. The next day I put my pictures and an article on the school wall newspaper. I feel proud of the development of our country.

From the picture we can see two men standing in two areas, each holding a stick ready to kill the mice in his area. Between them is an area where a mouse is playing freely, but neither of the two men seems to notice it. They both expect the other to catch it.

People are sometimes selfish. They tend to avoid their responsibility when problems arise.

We need to concern about our own gain or loss, but on the other hand, why don’t we go a little further to help others? Helping others means helping ourselves.

Recently I have joined in a discussion on the Internet about whether more MET opportunities should be provided each year. Of course, different people have different opinions on the issue. Some are in favor of this idea, while others express their worries about it.

Those who are for this idea think that more test opportunities each year meets the need for MET reform. It allows students to have more chances and also helps reduce the stress of both parents and students.

Those who feel worried believe that more test opportunities each year will add too much of a burden to both students and teachers. Besides, it will be a waste of money, labor and other social resources.

As far as I am concerned, the more chances the better. More test opportunities each year will improve the fairness of MET.

In the picture, a man is rowing a boat with great difficulty. However, the water in the river is too shallow for the boat to move on. Obviously, it is difficult to move the boat no matter how hard he tries.

The picture tries to convey the message that it is important to build a solid foundation if we want to succeed. We can learn this lesson in real life. Take study for example. If we don’t have basic knowledge and essential ability, we may fail to achieve our goals even if we work hard. Just like the man in the picture, he can’t move forward as expected because water is not deep enough for the boat.

Dear Editor,

Our student union has recently conducted a survey on what may affect students’ outside-calss reading. The result is as follows:

72% of the students think that school work takes up most of their day, leaving very little time for outside-calss reading. Meanwhile, 16% complain that their parents don’t support them enough.Parents are concerned that their children’s attention may be taken away by the non-school related reading.

Besides, 8% of the students are not satisfied with the opening hours of the library and limited book collections there. And 4% of the students think books are too expensive these days, so they can’t afford to read as much as they want.

We all know that reading is beneficial. However, given the facts above, how can we read more? I would very much appreciate your advice on how to encourage our reading.

As is seen from the picture, a man, annoyed with a big stone ahead of him in the middle of a wide road, is trying his best to kick the stone away, sweating heavily.

It seems that the man’s purpose is to clear the barrier in his way. However, he hasn’t realized that he may solve the problem in another way. With enough space on both sides, why not walk around the stone and keep going? The story of the man can be a lesson to us. We may have different problems in everyday life. Don’t just stick to one method only and get yourself trapped. Instead, we need to look around and try to use what life offers to achieve our goals.

A volunteer team will be organized to help the children of migrant workers. The activity will start on July 15 and end on August 5. The team members will be divided into several groups. Each will perform a different task.

Group One will show the children around Beijing. They will visit different places such as Hutongs, the Great Wall, the Forbidden City and so on, which will help them learn about the history and culture. Group Two will take the children to different museums in order to enrich their knowledge and broaden their horizon. Group Three will teach the children how to use a computer to search the information on the Internet and help them to learn English as well.

How are you doing with your school work recently? Today we are back at our school after the renovation. To my great joy and surprise, our school has taken on a new look. All the walls are made 10mm thicker, which can offer us a safer and warmer place to study. Walking into my classroom, I have found the walls whitewashed and old desks and chairs replaced. It looks very bright and comfortable. In the classroom building four new washrooms are built and a water boiler is set on each floor to meet our needs and make our life easier and more convenient. Windows are shining with beautiful pictures hanging beside them. Oh, I really love my new home. And of course I will do more work to keep it tidy and clean.

Recently the student union conducted a survey on whether recycling dustbins should be set in classrooms.

As can be seen from the pie chart, different students hold different opinions on this program. Only a few students care little about it. Surprisingly, about one third of students are totally against the program. They don’t bother to（不愿意）change their old habits. However, over half the students are completely for the program, as it is not only beneficial to recycling of resources, but also it can help students develop their good habits of garbage classification. Besides, 12% of the students partly agree. They hold the opinion that educating people on how to classify the garbage goes first.

In the picture, there is a cup, which is usually presented to the winners in sports competitions. The cup is definitely a symbol of great success. But what makes me puzzled is that a magnifying glass is used to see its light scratch on the cup, which is not at all obvious.

What I see in this picture r eminds me of people who use a magnifying glass to see the faults in others. Those people are usually very demanding and picky. They only see the “scratches” instead of the whole cup. As we all know, everyone has both strengths and weaknesses. Community Service

During the winter vacation, the students in our class joined in a meaningful activity in which all of us did our bit for the community.

First we went to visit an old lady who lived all alone. While we were in her home, one of us chatted with her and the rest helped do a thorough cleaning. We swept the floor and dusted the table. When the work was done, the house looked really neat and tidy then we went to the sports center, where different sports facilities needed polishing. We set out to work at once.
