Regina M is one of my best friends in my hometown. Her job is a Fengshui decorator who directs the office or the family apartment decoration based on the Fengshui theory.Fengshui.Regina loves her job since her family are all doing this for over than 40 years.

In Chinese, the “feng” means wind and “shui” means the water.TheFengshui theory basically comes from Chinese Bagua which emphasis the harmony of the god, the ground, thewater, and the people. This is the theory that from thousands of years ago that is the way the old people express their ideas on the harmony of the space management. Regina says that the wind means more the good health of people and the water means his or her career, is it good or not, and the balance among those element which linked to the people and luck is very important to Chinese traditional people. But which is also interesting that, nowadays, Regina got more and more clients are more international wise. It seems more and more international people are buying this theory.This Fengshui theory in decoration area can both for business and family 2 sides—both for the office and family apartment. To compare with the traditional Chinese Fengshuier, she took her interior decoration class in Britain for one year. I think that helps her on her understanding on both western way

and Chinese traditional ways of balance which we did not hear before. For modern youth, the Fengshui is some kind of too old fashion and superstition that not many of them are believe in Fengshui. But Regina currently got more and more young elite clients. She told me her theory and maybe that is the reason why she is so welcome by the young new generation of people, that’s why she always want to have new creation and make it easier to understand to the young people.

The first important element of the house/office decoration is clean and tidy. That sounds quite normal but here is her theory in Fengshui: The clean and tidy of the room helps the communication. That can enhance the staff mood or the family member’s mood so that can help them working and living together in better quality. That can help on both health and fortune part.The second important is making the room light enough, especially for the main rooms. The enough light and the fresh air can help the room to get together the positive energy that can also help the luck part. The third part is to keep the floor strong, the floor stands for the foundation of one’s career and health, so if there is any broken on the floor we should mend it immediately. If there is only cold floor such as stone floor, then we need to put the carpet to balance the cold. The fourth is to keep the streamline of the furniture in the room. For example, the sofa should better directly face the door because in Fengshui, the sofa face the door means the good relationship with other people.

Based on her understanding, those theories are all coming from Fengshui but it have the functionality in daily life that you can understand her theory based on modern decoration methods as well. The clean and tidy for a room in modern theory that is very important for efficacy of management for the environment. How to save more space and use it more efficient? So to speak, the space saving and clean and simple environment can help the people inside to easier to manage their space and time. The second theory, to make the air and light enough in the room. That is also good point for western decoration theory from the function of the room, the fresh air and enough light can help people inside’s health and can help their mood and working efficient. That is simple and clear that no one will be happy to stay a room which is dark and without window. The un-fresh air will cause lot of virus generate and that may also mean there would not be enoughoxygen in the room that will cause problem on people. The third theory is the safety of the floor. She also thought this is the foundation part of the room safety. If there is any problem on the floor quality, people inside will meet the basic safety problem. The fourth theory, she thought is the safety on the human parts. Because if there is any thief come, if the sofa face the door , that can save the time for personal safety as well as the fire risk and other relatively risk.

She got hundreds of theories like these that I only took 4 for

example. The superstition is not a long lasting way of communication since people know better and better science and Fengshui will not convinced so many people who believe more in science itself by their long time been educated. I think Regina’s way is quite fun and useful to us young professionals because her theory is no longer only superstition that we don't believe much. Since we know very little about “Bagua”which is the basic of Fengshui but she knows the situation well so she can always explain her ideas on both the Fengshui side and the modern usage side on modern knowledge. She got currently more than 50 clients one year that she already established her workshop to make herself almost doing her Fengshui business like the enterprise business. I think she is the fun interface between the Chinesetraditions and combines the modern knowledge, to use both the tradition together with the modern common sense that people will believe so no wonder her business on Fengshui gets bigger and bigger. I think this is the new phenomenon of Fengshui in China and I believe to insert more vivid blood into the old tradition stuff that can make the old tradition flashes into new sky.
