A Tibetan girl’s singing flash mob (快闪表演) surprised students of Tibet University on March 16. The video spread quickly on the Internet recently and made the girl famous in China. She sang one of the classic songs of famous Hong Kong ban d “Beyond” in Tibetan language. The song’s name is Snying Sdus Lags（《宁都啦》）in Tibetan, which means Like You in English.

Who is the girl? Her name is Penba Dekyi (边巴德吉) from Tibetan Opera Troupe (藏剧团) where she works. Her voice sounds like the sound from heaven, sweet and pure, which gives us different feelings from the classic song Like You.

Born in 1989 and growing up in a traditional Tibetan Opera family, Penba Dekyi took great interest in singing and dancing when she was a little girl. Influenced by her Tibetan Opera family background, she later studied Tibetan Opera in Tibet University and she likes it very much. She thinks Tibetan Opera has become part of her life.

Actually Snying Sdus Lags is not her only song in Tibetan. Her Love Love Love, Lydia, Wake up your ears and

other songs are very beautiful, but they are not so famous as Snying Sdus Lags.

P enba means “Saturday” and “De kyi” means “happiness and safety” in Tibetan language. So Penba Dekyi calls herself “Saturday’s happy girl”. She said “Music is a universal language of mankind, even if you don’t understand the Tibetan language, you will also be infected.”
