Understanding the Power of Teams

Queen’s utilizes an innovative approach to team-based learning that is far more sophisticated than that used in other programs. We believe strongly in our team-based approach because it mirrors today’s progressive workplace. You will leave

the program with a thorough understanding of the best practices for successful team-building and teamwork, well-prepared to be a valuable member of a high-performance team.

While other programs talk about “teamwork”, what they are actually referring to is “group work” – a very different concept. At Queen’s, you are assigned to a team for the core of the program, and a significant portion of your overall grade is derived from teamwork. Team members collaborate on assignments, projects and presentations, drawing

on the skills and experience of individual team members, greatly enhancing the learning experience.

Learning Teams

Each Learning Team consists of 6-8 students. Teams are carefully assembled to maximize diversity of gender, academic experience,

and cultural background – reflecting the reality of today’s working environment.

Team Coaching and Support

A dedicated, professional Team Coach is assigned to every team. For the entire program core, they will monitor your team’s effectiveness and provide regular feedback and guidance that is pivotal to the learning process. A great deal of time during the first week of the program is devoted to setting the tone for your Learning Team. You and your teammates will be led through a series of exercises designed to get acquainted, gain insight into each member’s preferred thinking style, and successfully conduct your first team meeting. You will be provided with proven processes and best practices for overcoming any obstacles that may arise during the year.Developing Your Team and Leadership Skills

One of the greatest benefits of our team-based approach is the opportunity to develop your team and leadership skills – skills that are essential in business. At Queen’s you don’t just learn about teamwork and leadership, you put them into practice every day. Each team member is given many opportunities to lead projects or contribute to projects led by other team members.

second Master’s degree while in the program.

Double degree options provide additional learning

and a much broader perspective as compared to

the more conventional single degree option.

In addition, having a second degree from an international business

school will differentiate you from graduates of other business programs.

If you envision yourself working in other countries or for multi-national

organizations during your career, the double degree options will provide

you with the global insight and experience recruiters are looking for.

international experience gained from a double degree option will help

you better understand and collaborate with your future colleagues,

business partners and customers throughout the world.

world. Each of these institutions is accredited, highly internationalized,

TESTIMONIALS

Queen’s MIB is well-balanced with a strong international vibe, and many opportunities to tailor the program to your own needs. My international exchange at the University of Sydney was an amazing experience and offered a wide range of interesting courses. For me, the highlight of the program was working on the team assignment, in a diverse team of international students. The program has greatly expanded my business knowledge, but has also enhanced my teamwork skills and cross-cultural skills, which is very relevant in an international, team oriented environment like Accenture.

It provides excellent teamwork opportunities, and high-caliber classmates. The professors were well-qualified leaders who stimulated great class discussions. I had a phenomenal exchange at University of Mannheim, one of Europe’s top business schools that I have found to be very well-respected amongst my European colleagues and clients. The connections I made during the program have provided an amazing network for career advice, mentoring and potential jobs…all on a global level.

I elected to pursue the Double Degree Option, and earned an MSc in Management from University of Mannheim in Germany. Among the many outstanding features of the program, the team project was the highlight for me. It enabled me to broaden my cross-cultural capabilities and provided valuable experience working within a virtual team with members in various locations around the world - a situation that is quiet prevalent in today’s global business environment. I also believe that my experience in Germany played a key role in landing my current job at BMW.
