Xuxinjie Learning aims:
1.Understand “GM food: hope or danger” by intensive reading.
2.Learn the concept “ DEBATE”
3.Learn to list different opinions on GM food in groups.
4.Learn to write an opening of a debate to present students’ opi nions on GM food.
Teaching Procedures:
Step1: Lead in
1.Briefly review the previous passage about Man and nature.

Step2: Scanning
1. Read and find out the main ideas of paragraphs
2. Fill in a form for further understanding of the passage.
Step3: Group discussion
Students discuss in groups and list as many opinions as possible on GM food.
Step4: Debate
1.Show a short video of a debate and have students revise the passage on P22 to
find out the structure of a debate.
2.Make sure students acquire the techniques used in a debate.
Step 5 Writing
1.Write an opening of a debate using 50 words.
2. If time permits, have students present their writing.
