Talk about American Dream from ‘The Great Gatsby’As we all know, the Great Gatsby, which is an outstanding literature by F. Scott Fitzgerald. The masterpiece is about a young person’s life, whose name is Gatsby. At the same time, he has an ultimate dream, we call it ‘The American Dream’. Through his story and his luxury life, you’ll find that he’s always search for his ‘American Dream’. So, in someone’s eyes, the American Dream is just about money, beauty, luxury life and so on. So, through reading this novel, I just want to know the real meaning of the American dream. Is it just like the Gatsby’s dream or it has another meaning, but he didn’t get the real point. It makes me have a deep deliberation.

In Gatsby’s heart, the meaning of American dream is just about being a richer who has so much money, wealth and come into a higher class, because he just lived the Jazz era. he is also deeply disappointed and confused. The material enrichment and spiritual emptiness have caused the younger generation to oppose all traditional concepts, indulging in pleasure and spending huge amounts of money. But, actually, it’s wrong. Because even Gatsby had gotten the all of money and gotten rid of the poverty, he still cannot come into a higher class, which means the traditional aristocracy. Because those people just like laughing at Gatsby , in their heart, they’re not admit the statue of Gatsby. In their eyes, they just consider that Gatsby is an upstart. So, you see, even you can become a richer, you still cannot achieve your dream, because the society don’t give you a recognition. It’s not equal in

their social condition. And at the end of the novel, Gatsby failed, he didn’t realize his dream, what he has gotten all of things are just unreal. All of things that he had acquired are foam. So, it’s obvious that the definition about what is American dream is wrong. We can call it is a wrong, blind comprehension gained in the context of a particular era.

So, what is the real American dream? In my view, the American dream is not just a simple dream, it’s the symbol of people’s wisdom, effort, courage and struggle. It means we need to try our best to realize something what we want. It means we need to spend our time and energy in finishing difficult things and we also need to experience one or more tough periods and then, maybe we’ll realize our dream. The American dream is definitely different from the Rich dream. Because the former is about our precious things, just like our sweat, pain, strive and so on. When you start to accumulate your own ability, your own wisdom and you want to do something step by step, we can call it is a real dream. The latter is just underscored the importance of fame and wealth. If you had this concept, you’ll not into your dream, because hardworking is vain, because no one will care about one’s strive, in those people’s mind, it’s so cheap in their era. Nevertheless, in my part, I strongly believe that is exactly the main core of American dream. Because the era has changed, everything has changed. But, one thing not, it’s dream. In the new century, we don’t need to search for the empty wealth. What we need to do is finish your own aims. You don’t need to imitate Gatsby’s life. Because you

can achieve your dream by your own strive. Why we call it a dream not a magic, because the ordinary person can realize the thing. On the contrary, Gatsby cannot realize his dream, because his pursuit is a phenomenal product . The particular era caused wrong concepts and value, and at the same time, the wrong value influenced his life. It refers to him just believe the rich is the most meaning of his American dream.

Nevertheless, the wrong concepts and understanding had proved the rich is not the most important thing in your dream. Because the rich person is everywhere. But there is only one way to the American dream: taking your time, step by step. And if you can get the point, you’ll achieve your American dream one day.

Because what is can achieve is called dream, another thing we call it magic.
