白塔七级八面，高约17米，下筑圆基，上着绿顶，各面雕有佛像，檐角系有铁马铃。塔外通涂白浆，如白玉砌成。白塔山1958年辟为公园，总建筑面积8,000多平方米，分为三台建筑群，依山而筑，飞檐红柱，参差有致，各建筑以亭榭回廊相连，四通八达。山上原有象皮鼓、青铜钟、紫荆树，古称"镇山三宝"，现紫荆树已枯死。白塔山经过多年绿化，树高林密，曲径通幽。公园三台大殿内独特的"黄河奇石馆"藏石丰富，独具风格。

山下为中山桥，二者已连为一体，成为兰州旅游的必游之地。兰州市白塔山东约1公里处有元代的王保保城遗址。相传明

初，大将徐达、冯胜奉命攻打元军王保保，久攻不破，恰至元宵节，徐达命军士做成又粗又长的鼓，扮成社火队混入城内，以大旗为号，里应外合，终于攻破了王保保城。为纪念这场战斗的胜利，这种鼓被命名为"太平鼓"，并成为兰州社火的主要表演形式。从此，王保保城和太平鼓更加闻名。

白塔山位于兰州市黄河北岸，海拔一千七百多米，山势起伏，有"拱抱金城"之雄姿。

古代，这里是军事要冲，山下有气势雄伟的金城关、玉迭关、王保保城;山上有层层峰峦，其中"白塔层峦"为兰州八景之一。

站在黄河南岸，举目北望，黄河铁桥，白塔山公园建筑群，白塔寺浑然一体，尽收眼底，有"河桥远眺"之称。穿过黄河铁桥,白塔山一，二，三台建筑群，迎面耸立，飞檐红柱，参差绿树丛中，这是自一xx八年建圆时在坍塌的古建筑废墟上重建的，总建筑面积八千余平方米。这个建筑群把对称的石阶、石壁、亭台、回廊连贯一起，上下通达，层次分明，结构严整，是我国古代建筑中别具风格的建筑形式。如重叠交错的重檐四角亭、对立式的二台碑厦、砖木结构的三台大厅等，所有建筑物都配饰砖雕、木雕和彩画。

三台建筑群的迎面是白塔主峰，山势陡峭，古代建筑有"风林香袅"牌坊、罗汉殿、三宫殿等。山顶的古建筑物有三星殿、

迎旭客阁，凭栏远眺日出，放眼黄河，气象万千。

白塔寺，始建于元代，据记载，元太祖成吉思汗在完成对大元帝国疆域统一过程中，曾致书西藏拥有实权的萨迦派法王(喇嘛教之一派，俗称花教)。当时萨迦派法王派了一位著名的喇嘛去蒙古拜见成吉思汗，但到了甘肃兰州，因病逝世。不久，元朝下令在兰州修塔纪念。元代所建的白塔已不存在了，现存的白塔系明景泰年间(公元1450-1456年)为镇守甘肃内监刘永成重建。清康熙五十四年(公元1720xx年)巡抚绰奇补救增新，扩大寺址。寺名为慈恩寺。寺内白塔身为七级八面，上有绿顶，下筑圆基，高约十七米。塔的外层通抹白灰，刷白浆，故俗称白塔。塔建成后，几经强烈地震，仍屹立未动，显示了古代劳动人民在建筑艺术上的智慧与才能。

白塔寺原有"镇山三宝"：象皮鼓，青铜钟，紫荆树。象皮鼓传为一印度僧人云游白塔时所赠，现在这里仅有仿制品;青铜钟为清康熙年间铸造，重为153.5公斤，现存寺内;枝繁叶貌的紫荆树系后人重载。北端山头有牡丹亭，亭内有一碑，据说原碑在湖南衡阳市北的趄嵝山上，字形怪异难辨，后人附会为大禹治水时所刻。宋嘉定五年(公元20xx年)，何玫摹刻于岳麓书院。兰州此碑，系清咸丰十一年(公元1861年)，酒泉郡侯建功模立，碑高九尺，宽三尺，上刻七十七字。

白塔山西北方，林木葱郁，朝阳山、马头山、冠云山、环翠山峰峦层叠。浓荫深处，有休息亭，供游人小憩。亭前有蓄水

池。这里山高林密，是登山远眺，避暑纳凉的好地方。
