天津外国语大学附属外国语学校概况天津外国语大学附属外国语学校(天津外国语学校<郭沫若题写校名>，被天津市民亲切的称为“小外”)是在党中央、国务院直接关怀和周恩来总理亲自批示下，于1964年创建的全国首批七所外国语学校之一，是教育部多次下发专门文件要求重点办好的天津市惟一一所具有鲜明外国语特色的全日制、寄宿制完中校，现为市直属校、首批示范校、全国外国语学校副理事长校。原毛泽东主席、周恩来总理的翻译，联合国副秘书长冀朝铸任名誉校长。学校的培养目标是：造就德才兼备、文理并重，突出外语，全面发展的复合型、国际型预备人才。学校开设英、日、德、法、西五种外语，为每位学生设置第一和第二两门外语，并采用双语教学。

天津外院附校建校45年来，在各级领导和全社会的关怀支持下，坚决贯彻周总理提出的“外语要从娃娃抓起”的指示，坚持“为培养高水平的外语人才打好基础”，为国家培养了大批德才兼备的莘莘学子，他们遍布祖国及世界各地，“为国家做出了贡献”【引自国家教委（87）010号文件】。很多优秀毕业生先后工作在胡锦涛、温家宝、邓小平、江泽民、李鹏、朱镕基、乔石、李瑞环、李先念、杨尚昆、万里、胡耀邦等历届党和国家领导人身边；多人走上省部级领导岗位，近百人担任驻外大使及外交官等工作。国务委员钱其琛曾肯定外语学校的培养成果：“外语学校是培养外交家的摇篮”。近几年，在各级领导的关心支持下，特别是示范校建设以来，学校办学规模不断扩大，办学水平不断提高，每年有百人左右被免试保送到清华大学、北京大学等全国50余所重点高

校本科学习，占全市保送生的一多半；每年有近百人被美国哈佛大学、耶鲁大学、加拿大多伦多大学、澳大利亚墨尔本大学、日本东京大学、早稻田大学等世界著名高校以全额或不同数额奖学金录取。国际交流取得新突破，已同13个国家的学校建立了“友好交流校”关系。每年分别组织师生赴美国、英国、德国、丹麦、日本、加拿大、澳大利亚等国友好校进行学访，同时每年接待多批各国学访团来我校交流学习。

学校占地面积近百亩，建筑面积50000平方米，230名教职工，高级以上职称占教师的43%，在校学生2200余人。设有：新世纪科教楼、初中部教学楼、高中部教学楼、培训中心楼、同声传译报告厅楼、400米橡胶跑道的国际标准运动场、艺体楼、国际部、学生公寓，以及卫星电视转播系统、语音室、多媒体教室、计算机房，理、化、生实验室，图书馆和天文台等，设施齐备。重建后的光纤网络走进课堂，全新的教育理念，先进的教学设施和完善的管理体系，提供了以人为本的优良育人环境。数百人次在国家级、市级英、日语比赛中获大奖，百余人次在高中数学、物理、化学、生物、信息学等学科的全国联赛和奥赛中获一、二等奖。文体艺各方面亦取得优异成绩，管乐团、合唱团多次在市、全国获奖。

Tianjin Foreign Languages School Affiliated to Tianjin

ForeignStudies University, one of the nation’s first seven foreign languages schools, was established in 1964 under the care and instruction of Premier Zhou Enlai and State Council. The Ministry of Education has officially expressed the expectation for the school to become a well-developed middle school, which is the only one in Tianjin featured in foreign language teaching and boarding facilities. Being one of the first group of Model Middle Schools and Three-A schools, it is directly under the jurisdiction of Tianjin Education Committee. It’s one o f the members in the Council of nation’s Foreign Languages School, with its principal as the Vice Director of the Council. Ji Chaozhu, former Vice Secretary General of the United Nations, interpreter for late Chairman Mao Zedong and late Premier Zhou Enlai, is the honorary principal of the school. The objective of cultivation is to bring up students to be well-prepared talents who are well-educated in both morality and knowledge, successful in both Science and Arts, proficient in foreign languages and developed all around. Five language courses are offered: English, Japanese, German, French and Spanish. The students are supposed to select a second foreign language besides their major. Some of the academic courses are taught bilingually.

Tianjin Education Committee and leaders of our country, our school has been carrying on in the past forty-five years the instruction :“Learning English should start with the children” by late Premier Zhou. And we have been insisting on laying a firm foundation of the knowledge for the development of the students and has brought up numbers of experts in foreign languages who are working both at home and abroad. The No. 010 document by Ministry of Education in 1987 says, Your school has made great contribution to our country. A large number of our alumnus have worked as senior interpreters to the top leaders of our country like Hu Jintao, Wen Jiabao, Deng Xiaoping, Jiang Zemin, Li Peng, Zhu Rongji, Qiao Shi, Li Ruihuan, Li Xiannian, Yang Shangkun, Wan Li and Hu Yaobang. Every year almost a hundred students are admitted (without taking the matriculation examination) to over 50 key universities like Tsinghua University, PekingUniversity, making up more than half of the recommended students inTianjin. Nearly a hundred graduates, with scholarships awarded in different levels, are admitted to many world-famous universities likeHarvard University, Yale University, Toronto University, MelbourneUniversity, Tokyo University and Waseda

University. We have been twinned with the schools from 13 other countries as schools of friendship, making a new breakthrough in international communication. We organize teachers and students for academic visits to twin schools in the USA, the UK,Germany, Demark, Japan, Canada, Australia, etc. And we also host academic groups from all over the world.

TFLS covers an area of 100 acre of land and the area of the buildings is about 50,000 square meters. There are 2,20 students and 230 faculty members, of whom 43% have got senior professional titles. Modern teaching facilities include: the New-century Science and Education Building, Teaching Buildings for Junior and Senior Sections, Training Centre Building, Simultaneous Conference Hall, Sports Ground with a 400-metre rubber running track of international standard, Art and Physical Education Building, International Department, Student Apartments and satellite television systems, language labs, multimedia classrooms, computer rooms, science, chemistry and biology laboratories, libraries, an astronomical observatory and other amenities.
