The sword, piercing the superficial life

Recently,I have been attracted by a Gothic novel,The Picture Of Dorian Gray.What catches my eyes is its scared,unimaginable plot.And the plot which full of profound meaning is also a highlight.

Portrait of Dorian Gray is a 19th century masterpiece of aestheticism, which had been called "Art for Art" Trend in fiction and drama pinnacle of painting.

This is a smart tragedy about the soul, in the end of the novel the writer used one sentence of Shakespeare's Hamlet: " It is like painting a portrait for the sorrow, a face without soul", this is a true portrayal of Dorian Gray. And it is also a tragic story by revealing to us the beauty of the appearance of concrete, which can only exist with the tragedy.

This novel tells a young man, Dorian Gray ,who born with unusual pretty ,when he found his amazing beauty, and listened to boast of Henry, he started feeling sad for his easily lost youth ,then he hope the portrait can replace the burden of years and the mind, and let him always be young and beautiful, no one can believe that the dream of his desire later realized somehow. Until One night he was manhandled his love actress Sybil Reed Well, when he back home, he found that it was cruel portrait appeared on the face. Turned out that the portrait of Dorian Gray has started with the changes of the heart. With his fall, the portrait gradually

became ugly. Finally, a Dorian armed with a sword, and kill the evil and ugly soul in the portrait and then he died in the flames. Henry was also destroyed a half-faces in the fire, and broke up with his daughter.

In the novel, there are three Protagonists, representing a different image. The Lord Henry, a utilitarianism, high society and identity man; Painter Basil's "art for art", wisdom and ability, and young innocence Dorian. Dorian had been wandering during Lord Henry’s temptation and Basil’s admonish. Rationality and emotion, depravation and consciousness, clearness the confusion have been struggling all the time. And this novel is the inner reflection of the real Oscar Wilde. In his letter he wrote to the worshipers: "Basil is my own mind the image ,Dorian Gray is my expected image, and Lord Henry is the image of myself in the others’ eyes." As Heraclitus said: "Put the opposite things together, they can create the most beautiful tones of harmony." This brings me one of his famous quotes: "A person either be a work of art, or wear a work of art."In my mind Wilde is not only a work of art, but also has many prominent works of art to wear.

After reading this novel, I had realized that beautiful appearance can not represent of all things, the most important is a man’s heart.The greatest feature of this book is its language fluency, since some words are a little bit obscure, but this is not enough to stop us reading it and reveals its profound meaning. Evil thing swill often hidden under the beautiful

appearance. So many people often feel very confused between the beautiful appearance and inner beauty, under all kinds of temptation, lots of them may sold their soul to get short-term pleasure, and in the end they may realized that what they had done were wrong, but it should be too late. As a college student, we can not miss ourselves in the unreal world, and we must distinguish between real and unreal. Furthermore, we should know that whatever we choose, it may affected us, so many time, we need to make better judgments. In this world, everywhere is full of temptation, so we need a clear brain to face it. Of course ,I n our life ,sometimes we may make some mistakes, what should we do is to correct it not to make it more error.
